Can you do a cad tutorial on how you 3D modeled these?
@Gah_Hofs
@Gah_Hofs 3 жыл бұрын
Its not that hard, you can model the final vase as you want, and use a blank block as the mold. Then use a Combine Tool in your CAM software with an Intersection cuttout, you will be left with the whole mold. After that all you need to do is to cut the bottom and separate the perimeter in 3 pieces. Tune the joints so you have interlocking surfaces, and you're ready to go.

If you made one planter with the 3d printed mold, took it out and sanded it and finished it up, then made a silicone mold of the finished planter, you could have poured as many as you want without the need to sand any of them again. They would come out perfectly polished out of the silicone mold.

All of the salt annealing I've seen make the part rougher on the surface. I believe salt annealing is to add strength to the part and avoid layer separation which he doesn't really need here.
@Mediamarked
@Mediamarked 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kurogod5 If you tried salt annealing yourself, taste the surface. Even after washing parts many times, I can taste the salt.. Not good for plants, salt... Even though it is used as a mould, and the final product is diluting eventual salt released, and sealed- I'd hate it if a potted plant died from that. Especially if I'd sold it. Also needs to be heated very carefully, the "ideal baking temperature range" for a smooth/ fully remelted pla print, and a hard porous sponge can be very small. So small, that you have to account for volume, mass of plastic, mass of salt, container size... Sadly not yet a "place in oven, heat, presto" process at the moment.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to make this kind of prints, aside from it being a proof of concept. You can use the printer for custom casing for personal electronic projects. Making mold negatives for interior specialised decorative elements that are not available on the market (exp.: baroque furniture, body forms, etc.). I swear, I can't wait to get my own 3D printer and CNC machine. You guys are undervaluing the practical applications for these tools.
