I actually make all the pumpkins in the Harry Potter parks, these look great! might I suggest you guys do a Peat Moss paint resist when painting? paint the pumpkin a base orange color then throw some wet peat moss, then spray a slightly darker orange. let it dry and wash the moss off and you are left with a natural looking mottled look. the ones I do are around a 8 step process with different colors! great job keep up the good work!

Curious about the weight difference in the foam vs fiberglass versions- I’m guessing it’s not a big difference? I remember watching you make the original foam versions and the horsehair brush carving was awesome but the mess it makes is kinda crazy- doing them in fiberglass seems like MUCH less of a mess to clean up! Did I miss what the molds are made of? Are they fiberglass themselves?
@edtsch5 жыл бұрын
What I REALLY want to know are details about what kinds of paints and finishes you use for outdoor (in the rain and sun) props, especially on fiberglass which is so hard to paint durably.
@edtsch5 жыл бұрын
Ah, I finally got to 11:53, where she apparently tops it all with Minwax spar urethane. Does that work well in the long run?
@HollywoodHaunter5 жыл бұрын
We used a xim bonder for hard to paint surfaces like fiberglass then applied the exterior latax and urethane. I know its not as long lasting as autobody paint but we will find out how long it lasts. This should work for our purposes hopfully.
@edtsch5 жыл бұрын
@@HollywoodHaunter FYI, an acquaintance of mine here in Austin does lots of big outdoor props/sculptures and her technique is to sculpt them out of foam, use epoxy clay to fill in and sand, and then she pays someone to spray on polyurea bedliner, the stuff you use to coat the bed of a pickup! So she bypasses the mold-making and fiberglass altogether. Apparently the bedliner does not attack the polystyrene, and she then paints with primer and "latex house paint or oil paint does fine." kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqnYlaJog9Kqeas
