In this video we will be making latex stockings from transparent latex. I will show you how to design, measure and draw your own patterns and glue the pieces together.
This video is part of my upcoming NieR:Automata latex cosplay series.

My wife has made latex clothing for years and she says latex stockings are probably the hardest item she makes. She only make things for herself now we are retired, so no more deadline stress. Just makes it and wears it for pure enjoyment. Brilliant channel BTW. We both enjoy watching your videos. Nice to compare how other people do things.

tbh I've been wanting to Make anything as a Hobby, ever since I was a kid I loved to create things than sitting down and hearing a boring teacher in a room or school. so Fashions, Art, and gym was my favorite subjects as I LOVE to touch and do things and this seems like something challenging a bit to help with my brain.

I think one of the issues with these patterns is how the pattern is positioned. To be more specific, if you look at 1:21, you can see the two vertical lengths on the left side of the pattern. What you can see here is this length is the length of when your leg is at it's fullest extension, which may cause some problems for the latex and the feel of the latex wear. At 10:00 you can look at the ankle and see how many wrinkles there are on the final product. Cut at full extension can have non-skin tight feel to wearing the latex thigh highs, since most of the time people don't extend their foot out. Then there is the possible issue with causing more wear and tear on the latex. This is due to the wrinkling and I don't exactly know why it may cause issues with wear and tear. The experience I have with this is with a latex catsuit of mine I got from someone else used, which had wrinkles at the arm joint and eventually ripped off. By any chance, how would you make a pattern where the pattern isn't an extended foot and still be able to get the toes and heel in? I know there is a way to have a separate pattern for the heel and to connect the toes together, but it has been hard to wrap my head around trying to make that 2D shape fit the 3D shape. I've been trying to learn about pattern making, especially so I can make my own latex clothing and clothing in general. Nonetheless, I love this video! This has helped me understand quite a lot with patterns as is and how to work with latex sheets. I hope to see more in the future!

Thank you so much! I was struggling with the same question but decided to go forward with this type of pattern because I was trying to avoid having a lot of seams. I’m still learning to make pretty seams and the transparent latex is not forgiving, haha! Usually the less seams you have, the less curve you can get in a garment. I think it would be easier to create a curve to the ankle area if the pattern had side seams and you could take in some width from both sides of the ankle. That might still not be enough depending on how the foot part is constructed. I think the biggest challenge is that the ankle curve is at the front and most people want to avoid having a seam that runs on top of the leg. Otherwise a “Xmas stocking” approach with a separate heeland toe would be ideal. Maybe having a seam run across the ankle horizontally and then several pieces just for the foot could work but I cannot really wrap my head around it either. If you are really determined to find a way you could always take some old socks and draw lines on them, cut them apart and test how they would work with latex or some other stretchy material. But it could be that socks are like gloves and should be ideally made with liquid latex. Thank you for the comment and the feedback! :)

@@lacrymastory You're welcome with the feedback! I also have another idea on how to best understand how to go about with pattern making. You can make a duct tape dummy of your leg and foot you can take reference from. You can even do this for the whole body, I have even seen someone do it with their head, which you can then trace around the duct tape dummy to get some ideas on what the pattern can look like. You can then cut up what you have traced and take the reference from the now flattened dummy. I don't think this pattern would be good to do a direct reference from because this may be a bit too rough. However, it would be great to take reference from and refine the pattern from there. Once the pattern is more refined , you can use the refined pattern to then be transferred to the latex for the final product. With this method, I can see this would be great for people who want it perfectly made to measure. However, if you were to be selling to other people, it may not be perfect for made to measure unless you study the pattern and how the customer should measure their body for you to reference from.

@@doomersnek3878 I have used the duct tape method a lot in the past! I discuss it breafly in my corset video too. It’s good for asymmetrical bodies, especially.

I wonder if it would be worth the effort and expense to have a mannequin of your body dimensions made, to not only help with pattern making, but if it can be made with a glue resistant material, could serve as a way to do assembly on a shaped surface, rather than a flat one?
@lacrymastory
@lacrymastory Жыл бұрын
Interesting idea but since latex garments are usually designed to be around 5-10% smaller than the wearer’s measurements, the seam would be under a lot of tension even before it gets a chance to dry. But maybe a 10% smaller mannequin would work!
@sevilnatas
@sevilnatas Жыл бұрын
@@lacrymastoryBy using a 3D scan to produce the mannequin, the model could be reduced by that much, before it is produced, by what ever process one chooses to uses. You could even be selective as to which areas you wanted to reduce and which you do not. I assume some areas benefit from more reduction over others, based on how the latex behaves, the shape and the effect you are after..

you might find it easier if you could find one of those shop mannequins with a shaped leg if you get my drift so that you could actually tape the final seam over the leg shape itself, sometimes I've used the actual roll that the latex comes on but that's more difficult because the roll is straight whereas you want that curve as you have pointed out on the globe but for the curve on the toes you're probably looking more at a golf ball size to get the curve you want and I always put clean piece of paper underneath the final seam and that final seam is always a difficult seam to do no matter what garment it is. I use Scotch tape myself and also the thinner latex I have found with stockings and catsuits it's just as good to do a straight line with a slight curve maybe with a vary form curve but latex with a thinner latex is so adaptable putting a curved seam in is neither here nor there imho but after 20 years of designer latex clothing usually using 0.40 and 0.50mm from radical rubber and especially 4d I still dread the gluing part but I have the patience of job fortunately and you certainly need that for the gluing. If I think of anything else I'll throw it your way and I have subscribed as I believe there's always room to learn new things I don't believe in perfection but hey looks pretty cool

I'm looking for references for making some 3D stockings. From what I've found, the seams of the foot are supposed to be under it, the piece is narrower than the sole and it converge in the back, in an unique seam.

I didn't see you using a roller to press the glued pieces together, was it because you didn't film that, or because you didn't roll? Using a firm roller to press the glued pieces together is an essential step. Socks look amazing though! Hope the glue sticks while wearing
