The bosses look great, I love how unique you've made each of their looks and abilities. For the Viking boss, I feel like he should make more noise before he charges at you, like a raging bull kinda snorting and snarling to telegraph the move to the player. Keep it up Ponty!

yea plus when its just you making all the decison its better, in tripple a they have to go thru a chain of people to approve something, and indie devs can focus more on the game while tripple a focuses more on micro transactions it seems.

this just showed up in my recommended, and I'm super impressed that you managed to get all this done in 2 years! I'm no expert on 3D modelling, but a trick I've seen some modelers use to avoid clothes clipping into the skin, is to erase some of the skin underneath the clothing. I don't know if that'll work based on the physics and whatnot, again, I don't know how 3D modelling works, I've never touched blender in my life, but that's something I see people do for like vrchat models and stuff.

Here are my thoughts: 1. You may make Cookie a bit bigger in terms of the size. That will give another hint to the player that cookie is stronger than Toby 2. I think the viking would look cooler if that "clothing-fur" thing was longer from the back I really like your game and the progress you've made(have been following you since the very beginning). Keep it up and good luck with the release :)
@kkrup53952 жыл бұрын

Sumo stun (which stuns you no matter where you are on the plane) is a bad idea. Having played 257 games from the past Brackeys jam and many more games on top of that, one thing I noticed is that typically you want the player to always have control of the situation. Receiving damage because of your low skill as a player - is challenging and engaging. Receiving damage when you had no/little control - is unfair and feels unpleasant. The other way to put it: in a typical arcade game, it should always be possible to complete the game with zero hits. Like "Glass Soul" in Hollow Knight - yes, it's super difficult, but some crazy people do it. Game should make it so that outcome is 98-100% skill dependent. On another note, it would be interesting to see what you are doing for this game marketing-wise. I don't see any marketing to-dos, but marketing is super important.
@robotmaster45152 жыл бұрын
I agree. This game does look fun but my favorite aspects of these types of games is whenever I'm 1 hit away from death and I'm playing outta my mind in hopes of clutching out a win. The boss already seems hard and having a move where a hit is guaranteed would ruin so much fun, of course that's what it looks like from the small glimpse we've been shown for all i know this isn't the case and it could easily be avoided. I think giving the player a way to skillfully dodge the stomp move would actually be awesome and add so much fun like maybe if you hit him right as he's about to stomp you could stop the stomp while stunning him and giving you time to hit him. Something like that would reward skillful players while promoting agresive style playing which in my opinion was the game philosophy that punch out used that made me love it. In how the game rewarded you for playing agresive by giving you a thin line to tightrope. If you fell off you would be punished but if you managed to keep that high level of aggressive play while maintaining that patience and waiting for the moment to be aggressive then you would be able to beat the bosses so fast which is what made punch out and super punch out so much fun.

@boooofer2 жыл бұрын
Hey pontypants. For the sumo boss i have an idea for an attack. It could be like the viking, Where he runs towards you. But instead of hitting with the head, it would be him hitting you with his stomache. And his run would kinda look like the Fall Guys run, but like… kind of heavy too. That’s it, i hope you will find this useful.
@NULL-lt8qg2 жыл бұрын
I like that sumo boss level, where punching the stomach area is ineffective I think draining our stamina(a bit more, a lot maybe?)on performing such a punch would add something more, too? Just came to ky mind, but never thought of that ineffective punch tho, great work! EPIK work!

Hey! Always love seeing the progress on this game! For the clipping on the monks clothes you can just delete the geometry from the original character (the yellow stuff) that is behind the clothes. Maybe leave a bit og geo behind on the edges where the clothes end in case of any stretching but yeah. This helps with saving some memory on character models that can add up down the line and also more omportandly fixes the clipping issue

@JumboManJr.2 жыл бұрын
About the monk, since you have already created a physics asset, all you have to do know is create cloth from the skeletal mesh, and that would get rid of the intersections. Adding more realism to the character and solving a problem, two birds with one stone.

I just discovered and binged your whole series today, and now you're one of my favorite gamedev channels! I thought of a couple things that might be good polish if you have the time: If you're going with the whole toy-like feel for the game, you could adjust the camera's depth of field as if you were truly filming miniatures (think the tiny fight scenes in the Ant Man movies) Also, (I'm not sure if you're doing this already,) but you could have the camera zoom in and follow the player that gets KOed during the finisher - since it already goes all slo-mo i'm sure it would look epik. Lastly, maybe allow players to buffer moves during the slo-motion big hits, as it may be a little annoying to have your input canceled if you're trying to follow-up. You might already be doing these, in which case thanks for reading anyways, and good luck finishing the game! It already looks amazing and super fun to play!

Great video! I really hope you see this through and relase it! On a side note I would strongly recommend not to add enemy attacks that the player can't avoid, even if you can walk far enough away not to take damage while being stunned, it is going to feel like being punished without having a chance to do anything about it. It could be that he winds up this stun, and during the wind up, the player has a chance to deal enough damage to stun the enemy. There's a couple of dark souls bosses that has this kind of mechanic, a devastating attack that has a windup and you can stun them out of it if you deal enough damage. Just an idea :)
@bukachell2 жыл бұрын
Hey, an easy solution that I know of for fixing clothing intersections is to simply cull out the parts of the body that aren't visible under the cloth. You can do this either with a texture that has an alpha channel or you can remove any geometry under the clothing, although the approach depends on how the clothing will be used.
