Focus on design fundamentals and you won't have to "hope" as much. Start off by listing out all the content needs for a specific screen and then forming a hierarchy for that content, which can be as simple as writing things down into bullet points with multiple indentations as needed. Hierarchy in UI can be visualized by emphasis, position, and grouping. If you've done the bullet points, you've actually already done a base level of the grouping part. An example of emphasis would be to make a button more vibrant than anything else on the screen. You can also use white space to emphasize certain elements. If I have a black screen with a white dot in the center, your eyes will naturally focus on the white dot due to the contrast and white space (white space doesn't have to be literally white, as it's black in this case). As for position, in western cultures people read from left to right, top to bottom. This is why it's common to see navigational elements on the top of a screen, or on the left, as it ensures users will easily see it. But these rules can be broken if you use proper white space and have a minimalistic UI. Also make sure you're consistent with your use of colors and UI elements. If you use a blue button for all "positive" actions (such as clicking next, or saving changes), then don't suddenly use a pink button on another screen unless it has a specific function. Create rules and stick to them. Lastly, make basic clickable prototypes in Figma or Sketch and ask users to perform a task that's applicable to the UI and have them screen record themselves. Ideally ask them to talk verbally in the video about what they're thinking while trying to navigate the UI, or simply setup a survey to get thoughts from them after the fact. This will help determine if you need to emphasize certain elements better, or maybe you're just using the wrong visual to represent something, etc... As for visuals, that's subjective, but it helps to create mood boards by taking a bunch of inspiration that fits the mood of your brand/game (include visuals from other UI as well as just random imagery). Look up "brand books" on dribbble to get an idea of what elements you should figure out when deciding on the visuals for the UI (colors, fonts, icons, textures, etc.). BUT.... the visual stuff is ultimately subjective and doesn't matter as much as you think if you're following the aforementioned principles. As long as the user experience is good, people won't care if you don't have the prettiest UI on the block.

I've previously worked on games that feature customizable pieces of clothing. Honestly, I'd suggest looking up the collectible LEGO Minifigure bags. They feature quite a few unique and interesting hats, props, and character designs. Just an idea, it worked well for my previous projects. Good luck
@grapewhistle15912 жыл бұрын
Those customizeables are looking sick so far, and I think I've got some (maybe too many) ideas for more! Hats/masks: a disco ball, googly eyes, wizard hat, a really ugly 80's style wig, a baby bonnet with a pacifier, a mailbox, super saiyan hair, a simple headband like Ryu, a rubber ducky head, a Lego head, 3D glasses, a VR headset, mad scientist hair, a propeller hat, clown wig with nose, and maybe just making the whole head an eyeball. Belts/small belly accessories: an X-shaped bandage on the belly button, underwear pulled up too high, maybe some chains, and the sewer lid from Punchout Wii Pants: the classic white boxers with red hearts all over, a kilt, a skirt, a tutu, nothing but a black censor bar (front and back), maybe overalls of some sort [Also, an idea for the pants, where you have the basic blue shorts, why not just give us a color wheel in that slot and let us pick whatever color we want for it, just keep the white accents for simplicity.] Gloves: realistic human hands, cubes, a skeleton decal on black gloves like an x-ray, boots, hulk fists, basketballs, soccer balls, tennis balls, and some more disco balls. Sorry if this list is too long I didn't have this many ideas at the start but I kinda just kept typing. I hope you like some of these, it'd be cool to see some of these make it in! Good luck on the rest of the game!

I personally love the "clothing/collectibles" menu, and I absolutely adore the current main menu, the aesthetic with the pictures is just so cool, just like a boxing wardrobe ^^. The career menu tho, I am not that fond of. I think it looks a bit too "amateurish" if that makes sense ^^. The one with the board to the right u scraped I actually liked better. Obviously, the board would need to be something else. Also for collectibles: Fisherman Hat, Nurse Cap, Astronaut helmet, Racing helmet, these pointy/spiky bicycle helmets if u know what I mean ^^ and maybe a robber mask/ski mask. Maybe even a monkey mask ^^. For shorts, I would really like a skirt... I don't know why, it just seems funny. Loved the devlog btw :)

Players get a set amount of time to hit the punching bag and the more points you get the better awards you get. 2. You could also do the same thing but with a person/coach. @NexXTSurf2 жыл бұрын
I think with your menu designs you should commit to the locker room aesthetic. Choosing a tournament is selecting one of three flyers on a Pinboard, "next opponent" screen is a cut out newspaper article with some headline "The Viking sends another Opponent to Valhala", your current outfit selection menu, but the boxer is standing next to his open locker. And swapping between menus would just be a camera pan. Love the series, keep it up :)

Now for main event league to stay unlock you got to have more wins then loses if your loses goes up league will close until your wins gets back up.. for main event it will be one random character that's already in the game just beef up once a month a different character if win get Special gloves and trunks (the gloves increases your punch power a little and trunks increases your speed), different outfits different abilities.

Add armor (like helmets, chest-guards etc). Bosses should have special drops which can be used by the player to customize. Special Attacks for the player which can be unlocked/bought by in-game currency or something. Mega Boss of some sorts. Different Boxing rings for different leagues. Survival mode where you have to fight weak opponents which slowly get stronger. Reputation and Betting engine where more reputation means more fans and more money with the win. You will get the money if you win but you will lose reputation and fans if you lose (my favourite feature). Ranked multiplayer matches. Hope you implement such stuff but if not then it's fine, i can understand. Also you got a new subscriber. Mean a lot to me.

Hello Pontypants, after 50h of playtime I have come to the conclusion, that you are on the verge of making the best boxing game there is. I think your path with a variety for bosses is nice, but i think you should also add variety for the player to choose techniques , certain styles or guards (for example instead of blocking you would shoulder roll in the philly shell). I think that would put the game on a whole different level. I believe in you and I think your game has great potential. Furthermore I also think your game is the best boxing game currently on the market

Awesome progress on the menus! I feel like now that you've done so much work on the customization of the character, it would be awesome to display it more. Maybe it could be displayed on if not all then most of the menu screens and then somehow interact with what you're doing in the menus. Like let's say you're in the game mode / career menu it could do some fight moves and in the settings menu it could be watching what you're doing and maybe celebrate when you press save. It's probably too much work but it feels like something that would tie the entire menu experience together.

I hope at least one of these is useful lol. Couple of ideas: 1. Make certain items have changeable coloring. I think this'll probably look best with the default red glove, being able to change its color can add a ton more gloves without making an enormous list of different glove colors. 2. Add footwear. Maybe you'd be able to change your character's shoes or somtin. 3. I think you already had this planned with the belts, but maybe make certain hats have different variants. Maybe if you beat an enemy enough times with a certain hat you get a "cooler" version of it. 4. You could make another new section on the character customization screen that includes all the items. Couple of item ideas: 1. sweatpants(?) 2. Googly Eyes 3. Spaceman helmet (You could maybe make a full spaceman set, including "space shoes". I don't know what space shoes are. Could also be a reference to that one funny game about deception :) 4. Plunger (hat or face item) 5. Mushroom hat 6. Bowtie 7. Tie 8. Square shorts (if you don't get the reference, I understand) 9. Square gloves (this isn't a reference, I think it'll just be funny)

Hello, I want to say first off that I'm no developer (though I've been reading and learning with Packt books) just an average gamer, but I did want to give an idea if it helps. If you're worried about having the menu fit with the other ones, why not make it like one central room (main menu) and you move through different parts of the place when you select the sub-menus. For an example, the customization menu can take you to the ring on the far right at 14:08 And you could change the interface so that you have a mix of both your ideas. I know it might be extremely difficult, but I believe you can do it. Good luck!

I'd highly suggest using Figma or Sketch for your UI work. Those tools are made for UI design and make it a much easier experience than Photoshop once you get used to it. For starters, you can componetize literally anything. So you could turn the individual collectible rectangle items into a component, then use a bunch of instances of that component to make a grid/list of collectibles. This way you can lay out the overall layout of things, then go back and improve the finer details later in components and have the visual be applied to all the instances, rather than having to redo every instance of a similar UI element being reused. Many things are built to be dynamic in Figma and Sketch as well, so you can make a button component and have it automatically adjust width when you type different text in it. I'd also suggest wireframing first, before you focus on the visual treatment. This allows you to focus on what type of UI elements, interactions and the overall experience without getting caught up on how pretty it is. Source: Product Designer (UI/UX mainly) of 14 years.

Awesome video! It would be cool if you could zoom in towards the player at the character selection menu just to see all the extra details on the items, especially on the belts! i love the dev work on this project game looks super fun and cool maybe for the next devlog you could work on cutscenes for the in between bouts maybe like a training montage of you and your opponent training a cool idea would be making each opponent have its own stage entrances but another good dev vlog idea would be to work on the stage backrounds make them more exciting. one last thing would be to give your boxer like a special move he can unlock for like beating a certin boss like the head ram or overhands these are all just suggustions.

it may take a lot of time to implement, but it would be fun to add something on the background, some of an Easter egg with a cardboard box (metal gear) to the background, which would be static as long as you look in her direction, but every time you move around the ring when you turn the camera to the side, she would start moving (legs would appear and she would move slowly, eventually hiding behind another barrier) And if, for example, you paid attention to this at that moment and turned the camera directly in her direction, a signal known to everyone from the Metal Gear series with an exclamation mark about detection would work.❗ Btw awesome channel and great work! the game looks so fun and cool. It's very interesting to follow all the process of making. Good luck with your work. Сan't wait to see the final version of the game

returning to the topic of Easter eggs: or maybe better and simle to add something like "TOASTY" from MK 😄

You can like make the collectables a certain rank: For example, the Pro belt and other items could be the Pro Series, with a different color in the background, and like rarities

Really good job! Love the new menu. Maybe you could put the boxer in the background of the career select. Maybe make him do a double punch at the camera when you hover on a button. I think it’d be cool.

For animation it'd be cool to see you mocap yourself dancing or something. There is software that maybe makes it easy to take video of yourself and translate it to animated bones. Of course, only if you're interested, maybe you'd find it annoying so... Awesome progress though. The UI is looking slick. You'll get there!!!

Perhaps add a little sparkle effect when changing clothes. Like a little sparkle explosion to hide the switch between clothes
