“We will have to work with what we’ve got!”
No special equipment was used to make these seats. I don’t have a mandrill bender. All of what was needed is accessible to most repair shops or even the home workshop.
No computer, 3-D, printing or plasma table were required.
Things can be done the old-fashioned way, which is the way they were made in the first place. Remember that some of the worlds most covered cars were made by hand, 32 Ford hot rod or Ferrari GTO created without the use of the microchip. Human imagination and hands transforming those raw materials.
Don’t put obstacles in your way and say to yourself that you can’t do it because you don’t have some sort of expensive equipment.
You don’t know what you’re capable of if you don’t try!

Supper job. Bending tubes by hand is never easy Unless you have the correct equipment that you can never justify for one off.

Yes this is a bit like per production work and by doing it you decide what tooling is required. But for just one pair. It’s all about economy of scale and now I know a little bit more about how to make seats that I did a last week !

I'm having to make bench seats for my Fiat 501C and another owner sent me a photo of his frame prior to the leather being fitted. Turns out that it's a 9 x 4 matrix of springs with some tie wiring which can be easily made by sacrificing a spare mattress I have lying around. I love it when it's that easy.

Good luck with your project. I think it will be interesting . As I was reading your comment I was thinking about harvesting the springs from an old mattress and yes you are already there !

Iv never done it myself but i read it at my plumber school. To bend a pipe pack it with sand and cap the ends. The sand will prevent the pipe wanting to collaps cause it have no where to go.

The sand technique was my next move. It was tough bending it cold but the results were acceptable. There is a system of using a plumbers spring for copper pipe but i don’t know how well it would work with steel pipe. I think the guys would have used a mandrill type machine. If you have a good look at where the seat frames are welded. It makes me think that they would make lots of bends and then assemble them as required for different applications. I’m thinking that the seats were bought in from a seat manufacturers. But trimming would be done later so probably just frames .

Thank you. I’m keen to show that you can do a lot of work without having to invest in expensive equipment. Especially if it’s just a one off project.

@@Crosshatch1212 Just watched it . Looks like the engine is removed along with lots more parts. But as you can see a lot of it can be made so it could be saved. That Jensen has a four litre Austin truck engine as fitted to the K9 and the sheer line limousine. The Maserati is a 3700 cc funny thing that it’s Gold like the one that I made the seats for . Thank you for letting me know about it.

It’s that creaking sound effect that I like. Which wasn’t over dubbed, it actually made it when using the blocks .
