You guys have a beautiful back yard, thanks for the tour. I recently started composting my fruiting blocks and oh my goodness they create the best soil, my lettuces love it.

For me i used the spend substrate to make vermi compost. Collect the substrate in some large bag and put the worm into it. Its quite easy.

Awesome, I completely forgot about these composters! 🍄

Hi Gary! That´s a beautiful garden you have. I will be composting as much of my spent blocks as I can also and use that to grow salads etc. Mush love.

This year I made a whole flower bed with spent blocks. Then the alien showed up. I look over and there was a huge pile of yellow looking stuff. It was a type of slime mold called dog vomit. It keeps going away and popping back up what a trippy thing.

yes I have also seen that around before - need to scoop it with a shovel while still bright and before it releases havoc ha

I’m curious about the benefits of mushroom compost as I do a lot of food gardening. I know it’s beneficial but definitely wonder how on a deeper level. I saw Stammets provided an npk breakdown but I think it was quite low

Honestly what happens is enzymes from microorganisms start to live and produce. This allows the plant to absorb everything they feed on and this is why when using organic fertilizer you can’t expect results immediately and what is happening with organic fertilizer is your feeding enzymes that break it down that allows the plant to intake them as nitrogen phosphorus potassium orfertilizer. Now chemical feterlizer is water soluble and this allows the plant to absorb the chemicals and chemical fertilizer does not improve the ground soil it actually can destroy it but proper organic gardening leaves the ground better for future generations and a study has shown that industrial type farmers have done a no till with A certain plant leftover to grow when the crop is harvested that acts like a soil enhancer for the next year and topsoil protection of the micro organisms and enzymes and because the topsoil is now protected these micro organisms in enzymes now living this topsoil & break down organic material that their crop can now harvest easier without the use of chemical fertilizers compared to tilling up the topsoil destroying the topsoil killing these living enzymes only to use chemical feterlizer

Mushroom planted everywhere, love it👍. Composting the substrate good idea, but anchored and wrapped around rope, and then pulling it would save you the hustle turning that drum, as it has to be heavy. I saw chinese farmers in rural areas sun drying used substrate, and then using as stove fuel in winter, that may be option for some as well.

neat! Yes it takes a little practice for rolling it but I think it’s fun - I will see if there is a motorized one out there that would be the primo version; scaled up about 5x for 50 gal drums worth of substrate

How many days it will need to become composed, dear?
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi5 ай бұрын
it depends on temperature and moisture content usually it’s about 2-3 months in these bins with ideal conditions
