The Last Homely House

2 жыл бұрын

Just the other day, Anna and I started work at 4.30 am! We hoped to get some beautiful midsummer photographs of The Last Homely House as the sun was rising for the 2023 calendar. At the same time, we took some video of my walk around the lake, breakfast in the pavilion and then, as the day was starting, I moved my sewing machine outside to carry on work on my Postage Stamp Block curtains for my Porch Makeover.
We shot more video than this - including a little chat with our breakfast and a lot more of Eileen and posted that to Patreon on Friday for their preview on 5th August
I create extra content for my Patrons and you can check that out here.

Support from Patrons allow this channel to continue and I am grateful for each and every one of you! Thank you!
Thank you to everyone on The Lime Green Sofa who showed such interest in The Dish and The Spoon Project. All the Boxes are packed and on their way now and Anna and I are enjoying a tidy Shipping Room once more!

Join the mailing list on the website to receive the monthly newsletter. It will keep you informed of shop updates, the charity donation I make each month with your Ad Revenue, I made a page on my website when I list each of the charities I support every month. You can find that here

This is a lovely video. I'm almost jealous of the relationship you and Anna have; my mother-in-law had the biggest, kindest heart anyone could ask for, but she had no hobbies that we shared. My own mother didn't have hobbies either, other than crossword puzzles. So I didn't get to spend time with either of them doing those things that I enjoy. I'm beyond thrilled that my daughter has taken up knitting. We enjoy sitting together while she knits and I do needlework. So I'm grateful for that.

We were both awake at light, happy with the way the garden looks at this time of day. )) Thank you for sharing the calm of your life. I've let stress encroach and make me fret. The gentle music in your videos (the only one I don't mute) reminds me to let go, be quiet, and absorb the beauty of mist rising on the corn fields, erase the world and enjoy the doing that needs being done. Its time to feed the kitties and me too. Good start to the day. Hugs on you all.

I hope you have a chance to move and be out and about today. Depression is THE WORST. It seems it will never go away, but alas, it definitely does. Remind yourself that “this is temporary.” Movement and a purpose in life (planning and then doing something that brings joy) is what has always helped me get out of my darkest moments. You are not alone in what you are going through. 💜

Thank you for inviting me to your early morning meanderings. And taking your sewing machine outside is mindblowing. Here in Auckland New Zealand, it is very wet and very cold, I wait for the afternoon sun to creep around to my side of the house and there I plant myself for a couple of hours or so to get some chores done at the sewing machine while the sun warms my enthusiasm. Aprons are on my agenda at the moment, you can never have too many aprons. Again, thank you Kate.

So very lovely. I live in RHODE ISLAND. the smallest state in the US. We are called the ocean state. Because we are surrounded by the ocean. I feel so peaceful when I watch your shows. Your lifestyle is something we all need in this world today. Which is peace. I am a quilter and cross stitcher. And do a lot of crafts and crocheting also. I'm 75 and retired and love working quietly at home doing what I love to do Hubby still works full time. It is what he loves to do lol lol. I'm so excited to see more of your videos. I understand exactly your feeling of the deer. We live on a city lot and the deer have been pushed out of their normal habitat to make the homes. So they still roam. I’ve had as many as 4 sitting in my backyard, and can no longer keep my lovely roses 🌹 as they eat all the tops off. But isn’t that life indeed…triumphs and disasters. Well said, Kate

Eileen's happy splash and swim in the dawns early light. I asked a doe once why she would pick all my peaches and eat all my favorite plants and garden when she had a beautiful pasture to graze in. My sympathy for you and your deer. My creature is an opossum or possibly a racoon. Whatever it is can climb a trelis and enjoy my melons just as they reach the peak of perfection. I cannot bear to deprive it as we are in the midst of a drought and a spate of 100°+F days here in North Texas. We have had more than 41 so far this summer and no measurable rain since June 3rd. So, I will call this critter Prissy Possum and be happy that I have something she can enjoy that provides her nutrition and moisture!

I really, really enjoyed your video and gardens. I feel like I know you in a way. There are many deer here where I live in the high plains of New Mexico. The mountains and plateaus surround about 3/4 of this smallish town. I planted my first garden under my clothesline which was next to the neighbor's fence. I made a rough frame on the front side of the line, then covered it all with plastic netting. Had a gate diagonally on one end. I had the greatest garden the first and second year. Third year the grasshoppers came and ate most of it. This was about 12 years ago. There's a lot more I could say. I wish I could make some KZbin videos of my quilting and artsy works. However, I don't have a clue how to do it. Maybe a blog someday! Wish we lived closer, ya know. Keep up the beautiful work and wonderful sharing. Thanks to Anna too!

I really enjoy seeing your garden and beautiful, green countryside. I live in No. California where it is hot and very dry in the summer and the fields are brown, so what a treat to see so much greenery. We have many deer, turkey and rabbits in our area and were forced to put up fencing around our yard. Kate, you have a kind heart toward animals, but it is a shame for the deer to eat the fruits of your labor. You may have to scare them away in order to have a harvest. From what I could see in your walkabout, there is plenty of natural greenery for them to browse on.

Hi Kate! I’m new to your channel and love your videos! I live in Florida, USA and you have inspired me to dye my own fabric. I’m also new to quilting! I live all your hobbies ❤️

I wish I lived in your home and garden, with the lake and woods so near. A photo of Eileen walking down the garden with the flowers would be my pick for the calendar it was lovely.xx

Beautiful video! The camera-work was wonderful! We have many deer too and, though I get frustrated at times, I try to remember that they are simply trying to survive and find food like we do. I will say that I have certainly had to come up with some clever ways to protect my veg lol :) I do love seeing God's creatures around me despite the hardship. Your curtains are going to be fantastic and they are inspiring me to be more creative with my scraps. Thank you both so much for getting up early and sharing this calm, peaceful snippet of your home. xxx
