Making Mystical Fairytale Cold Process Handmade Soap with Piped Painted Rainbow Dragon Scale Tail

Here’s another soap similar to my previous Summer Pineapple design. A few people commented how the top reminded them of scales and this gave me an idea... I decided to go for a fishy look with a scale pattern throughout the inside too. I ended up experimenting with the way that I layered my colors for the top and love the look that I got from this. Initially, I had wanted to try to make a Rainbow fish inspired soap (my kids love that book!) but the end result turned out a bit darker and more mysterious, giving me dragon scale or mermaid vibes instead. While this isn't my typical soap design style, I still enjoyed making this. So here we have Mystical Fairytale!
I added a generous helping of Tussah silk fibers in this soap, as well as my usual Vitamin E oil, clay and coconut milk additives.
The fragrance, being a floral, did give me a little trouble with ricing but I persevered and it was worth it in the end. It is a beautiful gardenia scent with notes of lily of the valley, jasmine, muguet, and subtle citrus all on a base of amber woods. Personally, I am also picking up on light powdery notes as well… it’s definitely a keeper!

Kathy Kitchin I don’t think it’s necessarily about talent, but about batch size and time dedication. From my understanding, Katie creates batches many times the size of Marina and multiples of them as well. So it would take much more time to be as detailed and intricate as Marina, which would be a profit loss for Katie.

I think depending on the color palette you choose, you could even imitate something like koi scale patterns in your soap! Though I think smaller scales would make a more intricate pattern I am flummoxed by your patience and dedication. Kudos to you! And the end product is, of course, lovely! I especially appreciated the mica painted top because it gave it even more depth and texture. Beautiful!

Yes, correct! They all align with each other. Coconut milk is an additive, I used it in place of a percentage of my water. It adds so much creaminess to the lather!

I'll go ahead and update that as soon as I can! I typically use Brambleberry's 5lb mold, which is identical in size to Nurture Soap's 4.5 lb basic and premium molds. I'll have to think about adding in custom sizes though!

I've got a question that's making my brain hurt. When you clean the soap making items, spatula,blender and such, do you have to use soap?

Not if you let the utensils sit for a day or two, then they're basically covered in soap :) I like to wipe mine clean right after soaping with a microfiber cloth, and then let those sit until I have enough for load of laundry. I don't even need to add any detergent!
