Shang-Chi's father is probably one of the best Marvel villains, up there with Loki and Mysterio. I was completely engaged in his story, and the way all of his evil stemmed from the huge weight of guilt he felt seemed so raw and real. He started out wanting domination, but his use of the 10 rings after his wife's death was based on his guilt and anger surrounding her murder. The way he gave the rings to his son at the end was an admission of his fault, and a way of hoping that his reign of terror would come to an end. I also love the movie's open question of "What exactly are the rings and where did they come from?" Shang-Chi is a fantastic addition to the Marvel cinematic universe! I kinda wish he and Iron Fist would team up 😭

Simu Liu really is Shang-Chi. I know he had some martial arts background, but not to this extent. He trained his ASS off for the role (props to Ande Le and his crew for training Simu). It’s great to see Simu put in the extra work because not a lot of actors will go that far especially at his age. They’ll probably get trained here and there and get the basics down, but that’s the most for them. So huge props to Simu Liu. He’ll be a fantastic addition to the MCU family, and I can’t wait to see more of him. I want to see him utilize those acrobatics he did too.

So true. I watched an interview with Andy lu about how he and his team had to work on Simu's flexibility for the role and how they were streching him everyday with him cursing them. You can see just how much work went into that in some of the clips. And also Training Simu got Andy his role as Death Dealer. Which is kinda cool as Andy said that he taught Simu everything he knows While Death Dealer taught Shang-chi what he knew. Also made the fight scene between them even better since both knew what they could and couldn't do.

I loved the movie. Saw it twice on Disney+ yesterday, as the editing was so quick. I think I will watch it another time over the weekend, just because I enjoyed it so much. It is not as strong as "Black panther" or "Doctor Strange", ny favorite Marvel films ever, but maybe because we get used to such a high quality of effects and actors. I am spoiled. I also agree my top tier mcu movies include black panther, doctor strange, guardians of the galaxy, civil war and now shang chi just because they have more original story lines. I believe all aspects were met and its deserving of a high ranking.

I almost started crying halfway through, but then Shang-Chi and his sister opened up the gifts given to them by their mother, and instead of something meaningful, it was just weird-looking superhero costumes that didn't fit into traditional Chinese culture or anything. Then, my sadness went away. That crappy gift scene killed the mood, but the movie was still super powerful. So glad Shang-Chi chose his sister over the dragon, and the finale was SO GOOD.
