I don't think many people got what was really creepy about that scene. What got me is after he said, "I just wanted to look at you." He immediately rushed out & closed the door as if he was trying to keep himself from doing MORE to Finnie right then. Like his conscience was saying, "wait, it's not time yet, make him play the game. You'll have more time to do what you want to him later. Tee hee." 😖
@gap_tooth

@@wadewilson8011 very eerie interpretation!! in a weird way i almost saw that as one of the only genuine moments we see from the grabber. we could see that he had tears in his eyes as he said it, which struck me as odd. if the theory that he was also abused (sexually or physically) by his father in that basement as a child is true, i took him watching finney sleep as sort of admiring his “innocence”. but your interpretation is probably more likely seeing what a twisted fuck he is 💀
@wadewilson8011
@wadewilson8011 Жыл бұрын
@@gap_tooth yeah he already had 5 bodies buried across the street. I think admiration of "innocence" was the furthest thing from his mind. It was more like an IG influencer taking a photo of their "exquisite" meal, right before posting it online, and then later eating it. But your theory is good too.

@@wadewilson8011 LOL that’s a way to put it 😖 he is definitely a murderous pervert no argument there, i just can’t imagine why he was choked up in that scene. if he was holding himself back from doing something worse, i figured he would have shown frustration or anger. it was so odd that he was practically crying. guy’s full of mystery though hahaha

I think the plot where all the victims put together each method of escaping in order for flynnie to fully get away, is super dope. It's makes you think, and that's definitely never been done before. Which is hard with scary movies now a days. Bravo on this one. 👏👏👏

The black phone is a masterful horror movie, the grabber was scarier than any supernatural villain could. The "trap" scene when he leaves the door open and the camera shows him upstairs, sitting in front of the door, shirtless and holding a belt with a frowny mask... that was terrifying, I legit got goosebumps thinking "oh okay he's THAT twisted"
@stephanieg9089

What really stood out to me about this film is that it is actually an excellent short story adaption, one of the best I’ve seen. It retains the title and all the content of the short story (dialogue and all) and it expands on content *already in the story* to bring it to a full length film. I feel like many short story adaptions end up with a different title and being “based on” because they take the basic story and go in totally different directions. I feel like it was extremely unique how spot on faithful this was. If you haven’t read the short story it can be found online, highly recommended.

I was honestly so impressed when I read the short story afterward that there was so many pieces of dialogue and elements that were directly lifted. It was such a masterful and fully well intentioned treatment of the story.

It's crazy, at first I hated the father then as the film progress, you start to understand the father and start to feel sorry for him. Even though he was technically abusive , you start to understand more and you start entering that gray area of protection vs abuse.

Exactly. Hence my love/hate relationship with my father. He was over protective of us, and was so busy raising us, providing for us and keeping us save that he didnt have time to cuddle, or baby us with reasons why he did what he did. He never explained his actions, he just acted. I felt so loved and protected by him, and on the same breath, i feared him.
@maskedbadass6802
@maskedbadass6802 Жыл бұрын
I understand how you feel and the most important part is that the father recognizes his mistake and is not just beating his kids for fun. I had a violent abusive mother growing up it wasn't the violence that made it unforgivable, it was that she had no logical reason for it and would gaslight me by acting as though it never happened even when other family members were present. If my mother had simply admitted she was wrong I would've gladly invited her back into my life, but alas we haven't spoken in years because she continues to be manipulative and dishonest. Any attempts at confronting her with the truth has her either fly into a rage or scoff at you like you're crazy even if you have half a dozen witnesses on your side.

This movie nods to the documentary Who Took Johnny And is one of the most important documentaries about children being taken. I am soo grateful for that. Good movie and fantastic performances.

Ok, just saw the movie and loved it. Really enjoyed the sound track to it. I may be way off, but did anyone else catch the resemblance when Gwen, Finn's sister, was ridding her bike in the rain to Pink Floyd's ON THE RUN and "The Dark Side of OZ"? Same music comes on when Elmira Gulch is on her bike.

Excellent film. Finny was incredible. Not many scary films where a kid is the lead. I just wish that he would have cried in a bit more believable way, at the part where he can't get through the freezer. He starts to sob, but it really sounds fake and there's no tears. Would have been cool if they got him to really cry. Reminds of the almost final scene in Manchester by the Sea where Michelle Williams' character cries heavily while sharing her deepest feelings to Casy Affleck's character. It's a very beautifully painful scene, but girl has NO tears on her face while she's allegedly sobbing and sniffling!!! It just looks really bad, especially for such a terrific scene.
