Buddy I'm a tree trimmer.... Turn your branches around they will feed much better. Please never reach into a chipper, the next branch will pull the debri into it... You do great work 💪💯😮

I think I would rebuild the dead engine and have a go at welding the drinks and dings in the runners.

He still has the old engine and expressed interest in rebuilding it so we may do that one day. Those curved tracks are just a bad design and I wasn't willing to put any effort into them.

Thanks for backing me up on that. As soon as I saw how those feed rollers were designed I knew it would be better to fix the other one. Delicate asymmetrical mechanisms like that are just asking for trouble.

Nicely done. Man the sludge in that motor! That gave me a good chuckle.

Thanks. After talking with the owner we were pretty sure a blown head gasket allowed radiator stop leak in the coolant to mix with the oil resulting in that un-pumpable goo. Apparently the low oil pressure switch did shut the engine down but a guy he had working for him at the time bypassed it and started it back up.

Those vertical rollers suck. My homeboy Larry has the 1230A version of this chipper and it is universally hated by all who use it. I wondered why - until I got slugged in the side by a six-inch limb. You must be on your toes to use one of these. That being said, I would fix up the unit in a heartbeat. The demand for old chippers is always strong. That sliding feed roller should have a thick rubber cover on it to keep out junk and rain/snow. Probably contributed to its early demise. Great video. Just subscribed!
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
Yup. The main chipper they use is a BC1800XL which also has vertical feed rollers. Power wise it's a beast but its very easy to get a fat lip if you try to feed a piece in sideways. He still has that 1250 sitting in storage (along with a bunch of other junk) maybe one day we'll pull it out and do something with it. Thanks for the sub!

A friend of mine's employee couldn't get a compact ride on roller to shut down, and it had a twin cylinder diesel on it. I had to loosen the injector lines to get it to shutdown. I was surprised that with one line off, that it stayed running, albeit with less vigor.

Dear AB guy. 👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work). The chipper runs great and I'm impressed how strong it is. Hope your friend will maintain the repaired wood chipper better than the one with the destroyed engine (but I guess he won't although it saves a ton of money). 2) I wouldn't try to rebuild an engine with so much sludge in it. I bet it also overheated at least one time and it's no use trying to overhaul a formerly overheated engine. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.

26:00 not to backseat shop you but if you want your drills to last longer you need low speed high torque for best results (I spent years trying to perfect my drill sharpening skills only for an old timer to tell me that going at high speed will heat up the drill bits and dull them)

Lucky they were both the same core engine. With so much junk in the bellhousing, I'd say the rear main seal is done - kind of amazing the clutch plate was driving at all! Interesting that the cooling fan is setup to 'push' (not 'pull') the air - I guess to keep debris off the radiator. The 'delayed owws' are always the worst (- clutch spring pinched the finger?)
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
They were nearly the same engine but one was imperial and the other metric IIRC. It was odd. Yeah the rear main was definitely gone and the clutch probably was slipping for all I know. Yeah I wasn't paying attention to where my fingers were and the clutch finger smashed it lol.

At 32:41, you are making the chipper work harder, instead of feeding the trunk in first, where the load would taper from light to heavy, better performance wise. Don't you think so? Thanks.
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 11 ай бұрын
It doesn't really matter. The huge inertia of the chipper wheel evens out the load no matter how it starts. The only reason to feed stuff a certain way is to prevent it from catching on your clothes and trying to pull you in.

with the serious lack of maintanance i was wondering if you actually checked the oil on the replacement engine and maibe chainged the oil and filter on it as the owner sure as heck whont do it as for the busted solenoid , that is probably a combination of oilpressure and water temperature cutting off if one of them goes beyond the set limit wouldnt be supprized if the men operating the chipper broke it and bypassed it as it kept shutting off (never even question why it shuts iff as it keeps them from finishing the job and get payed
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 10 ай бұрын
I checked the oil and he did change it before he started using it. I found out later that's actually exactly what happened to the solenoid. Some pudding brain they had working for them smashed it to bypass it. In his defense I guess it did technically have oil. Just no oil pressure.

You're buddy only changing the oil once is a sign of laziness. That machine makes him money assuming he owns a chipper business. The moment the machine is down and not making money is where you want to start taking care of your bread maker. And I doubt chippers are that dirt cheap but swapping the engine was a great idea. Hope your buddy learns to change the oil more frequently on his Frankenstein chipper. The other engine deserves to be rebuilt if you had the video I would watch it.
