As an avid xiv player with 8k hours , I adore gw2, it feels like they're two Half's of one perfect mmo, each one does perfectly what the other one doesn't do.

I can get behind that. jumping puzzle, exploration, fun grind,best mounts, incredible maps, interesting progression is GW2 interesting mechanics, hard Raids/fights, fun crafting, really lovable characters good worldbuilding and story in FFXIV...

I tried it not too long ago. The game is fun but oh my god the chat was toxic. Literally the first thing I saw when I logged on was a bunch of people talking about how people who play WoW and ff14 are pedos.

I would just wish that GW2 would treat its ingame history and story with respect. The amount of fun interesting characters getting dropped left and right is just frustrating, and after the clusterf*** that was Icebrood Saga, I lost any motivation to ever tap into this game again...

​@@markup6394 I didn't play IBS at the time, but I had a good time playing it after, seeing and getting involved with the charr clans, the spirits helping you (and braham) and the whole setting/mood of the zones. All pretty good and cool. Even the most hated chapter Champions I think the idea was good, seeing old places in a new way. Just could've been better executed.

All these "Guild mates" were actually ruining the experience for you as they kept killing things that would help you complete hearts. I believe the Sylvari starting zone is one of the least friendly starting zones. I'd recommend the human starting zone or the Norn zone. Some things to remember: 1. Always loot kills 2. Open inventory, top right you have multiple "buttons". Use the deposit crafting materials. 3. You can use salvage kits to salvage everything and then repeat 2* 4. All heart quests will tell you what to do in the top right. 5. You by default have 1 waypoint in the starting zone of each race. 6. Read tooltips when you get the level up pop up. 7. While doing hearts, different things you do add a different percentage of completion. Usually it scales 3%, 5%, 7%, 10%. 8. Always try the jumping puzzles. Sylvari map has 3 of them. I hope you guys continue to try the game. It is really worth it and the end game content is quite fun.

my biggest issue with the Sylvari starting zone is apparently there's two JP's that occupy a large portion of the eastern part of the map preventing mounting. And you want to go just north into the special "nightmare court" area for the HP if not to complete the heart there.

Sylvari is good for the story, it's more involved and natural in the base game than other races And yeah I don't like when people want to just showoff and randomly follow new players who stream around. I know that people want to show what the game has and what's cool but I think it's better when they discover it in a natural way.

Yeah, I get that their followers are excited to be able to play GW2 with them, but it's just not a good intro to the game when the guildies just zerg everything in an open world event so neither the guys nor the viewers have any idea what's just happened.

Yeah there are alot of them not helping juat ruin it. They tag everything and made low lvl not get exp and not helping to explain wht streamer need to do, example the event on mabon market, they need smack mini wild animal whos run away and become goop and no one explain it really frustrating

I must say.. You are a very entertaining duo. It warms my heart to see you on first trup through Tyria. My advice, as a long time GW2 veteran, would be for you to give the expansions a try (I believe Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire comes as a package deal). The story telling and whole map immersion + better visuals and the introduction of advanced build crafting through Elite Specializations AND RAIDS, really lifted the game. I am not saying that Vanilla GW2 is bad, but the expansions will feel like an entire new game for both of you. You have yet not even scratched the surface, Have fun! I will be watching

I like the Sylvari cultural armours. They look like they are growing out of your body, rather than being worn. They also dye very well, with gradiants from one colour to the other. Speaking of dye, the GW2 dye system is something I wish FF14 would copy. Rather than having to use a bottle of dye, every time you dye something, you just have to consume it once, to permanently unlock that colour and depending on the item, they have up to four dye slots. The beginning of the game has multiple stories, that eventually align. You first start with two story-lines that depend on what you have chosen on character creation, then a story for your race, all of which are set by your character creation. After that you get to pick your story-line ingame, by picking one of three organizations to join. The only thing you can pick, that doesn't matter is the charm/intimidation/whatever the third was again. Don't just assume that you attack in close combat just because you wield a sword, read what the skill tooltip says. The greatsword for example is a ranged weapon for the Mesmer. I don't remember about the one-handed sword. It's funny how Kyle will click on anything and everything, except his own loot. ^^ Size envy? So... "Mad because small, jealous of tall"? :P Careful about falling. That fall damage isn't capped at 1 HP, like in FF14. Jump from too high up and you will die. You can access the bank at any capital, at a specific NPC, or through any crafting station (also located in the big hubs). There's also a consumable you can use to summon bank access in the field, that you can either buy in the cash-shop or earn in a limited amount from various in-game activities. There is a button on your inventory, to put craftin materials and other collectable items into your stash. Anything that's not put into your inventory is generally junk for selling, with very few exceptions, but I don't think that ingredients for legendary items and the like drop in the starting zones.

Loved this. Watching folks get into Gw2 for the first time is so exciting! I personally started in Caledon Forest (same starting location) 11 years ago. Now I am a Mastery Lvl 550 Dragon Hunter Guardian :) I hope you all enjoyed your time!

First off, Welcome to and welcome Back to GW2. This game NAILS open world exploration and smooth story progression. There are some things they got wrong but that in Every game. Don't ever use level boosts till you play at least one to level 80. Take your time explore and enjoy all the eye candy and great game mechanics this game has to offer. The others two things this game has out paces every other game at is Community building with everything in open world being shared. Resorces, open world progressive events and boss fights that you can participate in simply by getting in a hit, and sometimes simply by being hit. The other is Mounts, BEST EVER. Rift did it first but World quests in wow def took their inspiration from GW2.

You can try out characters to your heart's content. As soon as you're out of the tutorial you can enter the pvp lobby (heart of the mists). In there you will be scaled up to max level with every thing unlocked. There are some minor differences between pvp and pve mechanics, but the overall feel will be the same. The lobby has a training area where you can test different builds.

tip for metas/bosses/instances...always be on the boss with the stack. dont be a range unless there is a specific reason to be so. in the stack you get buffs from others and can be instantly picked up if you go down. away from the stack, you are on your own.

16:18 i play with a controller using Xpadder, but yeah it takes a lot of tinkering to set up and bind everything then it takes a good while to get used too. but i'm glad i did because i use the same controls on my GPD Win4 (basically a better steamdeck) so i can play GW2 on the go :P

I don't talk/comment much, but been subbed since you guys started streaming in Heavensward. Soz, gonna be a long comment haha 😅 GW2 has been on my radar for a long time. But been so busy lately, I haven't had the time to tune in to the streams, pick up other games, or even play FFXIV (the horror). I'll watch the crap outta GW2 VODS though. Finally "finished" FFXIV (done all the side content, and only got 1 more ultimate to go), and about to finish the raid tier with my static, so I'll be looking at other MMO's to try out. Some mates have recommended GW2 many times. (Not gonna try WoW, at least until they've built trust back up for a few years, and they respect players time) I know Kyle said he hated Hollow Knight, but if Garret, Kyle, (or Kristen) want to do some streams of that game, I would watch the crap outta that too. I promise it gets really good once you can wall jump. It's got a great story, that's really fun to piece together from small hints littered all over the world. It's actually perfect for Kyle's wacky theory-crafting brain, and I think Garret would enjoy the combat (when it gets good after getting wall jump). Many people say "hollow knights not my game", and just as many have changed their mind, and turned into a rabid fan (like me) after getting past the beginning. You just have to get into an explorers mindset and set your own goals, because HK doesn't hold your hand. There are so many great games coming out though. So glad I've "finished" FFXIV, cuz I'm actually looking at and playing other games now.

FYI, There are differences between if your playing F2P or if you had purchased any of the expansions. And i can tell person on the left has while person on the right is on a "free account" or similar? These recommendations are for those who intend to play F2P for a long time, however, even if your not intending to be for a long time are nice to have. For the most "lore" out of GW2 i'd recommend making one character an Asura, and the other a Sylvari. To get the most out of GW2 efficiently i recommend doing a Necromancer and a Mesmer. Think of the Necromancer as your "farming" character and your Mesmer as your "adventuring" character. I recommend doing Weaponsmithing and Artificer on the Necromancer and Tailoring and Jewelcrafting on the Mesmer. You should never need Huntsman unless you REALLY need to make an ascended Warhorn. When you get to the point where you get your Exotic and/or Ascended grade gear i recommend praying in any city near the Black Lion Auction House Market for Superior Runes of the Traveler. Remember, it's against TOS to beg other players for in game items and against TOS to trade services for in game items. At least last i checked. While traversing the world, there are things you are restricted from such as needing to reach level 20 to access Lions Arch. And unless i'm miss remembering there's a bug preventing the Norn from entering their city until reaching level 20 but no other race has this issue. There's this thing called a "Hero Point" (HP) you will not be able to interact until after spending an amount of time. However, you can gain the ones that someone else activates and requires taking down a foe. There are other restrictions, and restrictions that had been lifted since last i played F2P. However, the main thing you can't do is buy gems with gold until you've purchased a GW2 expansion. Hope this information helped.

They both don't have any expansions. One of them has a legacy account from back before HoT. Anet put a few restrictions on the core game, when they made it F2P, which the legacy account doesn't have. Those accounts are rather rare these days, so people forget they exist.

I love GW2 but I am gonna need Anet tl revamp the starter zoons. Each race is starting. Zone has horrible out-of-date textures that were okay a decade ago but don't hold up now. All of their ads show scenes from the new expansions which obviously look better and have more high resolution textures but then a new player signs in and sees this.

GW2 is a game I was once deeply passionate about. One thing that I think is key to maintaining the good relationship with the game is to understand that the story quality will go downhill, and just keep getting progressively worse. Tyria is an enjoyable world to be in, and the game has plenty of great content of all stripes. The story will become something that actively makes the game worse for it's inclusion - but only after about 7-ish years of accumulated content, and nevertheless the rest of the game attached to it is still an extremely great MMO that consistently earn's it's place alongside the likes of WoW and FFXIV. Enjoy your time in this world, and death to the dragons.

I have tried Guild Wars 2, and while I had a fine time with it. The lack of being unable to switch classes, without making an entirely new character, just kills me. FF14 and honestly Runescape when I first played it ruined most MMOs for me. There are days when I just want to do other things that isn't my starting class/job/profession.

I hope you give guild wars 2 a real chance. It seems you both came in with preconceived notions and horrible jokes. I understand you love final fantasy - I hope your intention is not to bad mouth guild wars 2 just to make final fantasy look good. I tried final fantasy and tried it - but I never bad mouthed the game. For me it wasn't friendly - too many screens to read and it follows wow with have to speak with npc and kill things and come all the way back. The starting zones always the same - driving in a cart with an old man. But even if a game is not for me - I would not disrespect it. As you know every game is slow to start. Guild wars 2 throws you in the world. Have fun!

And even though they moved over from playing Blizzard games, they still speak positively about Blizzard games and hope for good things over there.
