For my Mom, having curtains was very important for a home. Before buying a house, they moved often due to my Dad's work. She told me that her curtains never ever fit the windows of their next residence. Decades later, she took classes to sew brocade drapes for our living room. Every year my parents would load up our pickup (with canper shell) with toys, bicycles, sports equipment and clothes to give away to random people in poor neighborhoods. In addition to the baby dolls and dresses, my. Mom always brought curtains. The women would hug her tightly whenever she pulled out curtains that matched their windows sizes. ❤ Thank you for your video.

Don’t know if I can manage a picture, but I recently finished a quilt made with recycled denim for my son-in-law. No plan, but just cut pieces to fit in, including pockets and interesting seams. I think the inspiration came from you. It was too heavy for batting so I used some soft fleece to back. But the best part of it was quilting with crochet thread by hand. I just outlined all the squares and rectangles and it looks so nice! This is also the fastest quilt I’ve ever made, in a little over a month. The first I ever made took me 5 years.

How satisfying it is to see all of your handiwork lovingly set around your home and cabin! I love making things myself for friends and family and once in a while for myself 😜. I’m happy to say that my love of handiwork is being passed down to my son and his family! I taught my daughter in law to sew, and now my grandson, but one of my most loved memories is caught on film of my son when he was 18 or so, sitting at my sewing machine, cigarette dangling in his mouth 🤣 making his very own set of bedroom curtains!! Passing down the creative genes!!🥰👍🎉💜🎄

Your curtains are beautiful and so suitable for your cozy cabin. Linen was just the right choice for the fabric. My grandmother Dodo (1890-1987) was a professional seamstress in Charleston, South Carolina USA, and I remember her talking about French-felled and flat-felled seams. Interesting and relaxing episode.

@efkay93 -oops! I remember learning run and fell seam at school, too. It was to be used when turning linen sheets "sides to middle" when they began to become worn with use, because the seam lies flat, or so we were told. My goodness! So many spots of blood and rusty marks where I had pricked myself and left the needle in the fabric too long! I was not a natural needle woman all those many years ago! 😊🌲🌴🇦🇮

@@thelasthomelyhouse Recalling those school sewing lessons it struck me that we only ever hand-sewed, but I remember with affection learning techniques such as smocking and embroidery.
