Sweet rice for us is a sweet treat to be eaten almost like we would eat vermicelli. This recipe from our friend Aunty Rose in Newlands West is certainly a decadent indulgence to be had every once in a while!
Ingredients
1 cup white rice (short grained) rinsed
250g margarine - adjust lower for a less rich recipe
1 cup milk
A few drops of vanilla essence
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup condensed milk - optional
2 tbs Saigo (tapioca) soaked in water
1/4 elaichi powder (can be made fresh or use store bought powder)
Serve pipping hot with a nice cup of tea or more traditionally with fried chick peas (Kudla)
