I think this is one of the most wholesome, honest and enjoyable channels I have come across in a very, very long time. The clothing and equipment you’ve crafted looks amazing and you do much better than you think at this.

great vid, linen is marvelous fabric, great for summer tunics as cooling, interesting having linen protector, ive seen wool destroyed by modern polycotton threads so the protector seems great idea

Thanks :) I just like the boarders on things because it looks more fantasy and just more fun than a boring old hem, I do believe my sewing machine was threaded up with modern polycotton when I did this though, sorry LOL

while i appreciate the intricacies of this keyhole method of hemming, i cut my ruana cloak with a 7" neckhole with 18" of taper from the outside edges of the circle to the center of the slit (an extra long tear drop shape, essentially) which would make this process so much more simple: one piece of linen the full length of the slit from the floor on one side around the neck to the floor on the other, fold and hem as if it were a really long straight line. i may accomplish this on my own now that i've watched your immense struggles. keep up the great work!!
@IodoDwarvenRanger
@IodoDwarvenRanger Жыл бұрын
Thanks LOL :) your boarder method will work just fine, there are many different ways to do things and I'm not about to say mine is the only right one. However for me what I did wasn't really "immense struggles" (although filming it/explaining it was a different matter), I have done this exact same boarder many times on tunic keyhole necklines, I prefer the aesthetic of how the cloak hangs if it is a simple slit rather than a circular hole because it doesn't sit flat on your back but hangs with some folds, functionally it makes absolutely no difference but I like the more primitive and less tailored look of a slit, that's just me though

@@IodoDwarvenRanger i really want to do a tunic with the keyhole method you used, but sewing machines hate me lol i would hem mine in linen as well, except for hand stitching that much linen is too much to ask lol
@IodoDwarvenRanger
@IodoDwarvenRanger Жыл бұрын
@@theguywitheyebrows hmmm... yeah, I have done tunics where all the visible stitching is by hand, and I totally get what you mean, but if you use a looser weave fabric and thick thread you can get away with nice big stitches and speed up the process significantly

@@IodoDwarvenRanger got some wash-away hem tape in 1/4" and rolled the hems to secure them before i ran a wide stem stitch all the way across both front panels, the back, and then the entire slit/neckline; was arduous and mellowing at the same. turned out great, and linen is supremely comfortable against the skin!!

I've been following your tutorials on how to make a Ruana cloak! Thank you _so_ much! I used a wool blanket that's been around for a while and it turned out great thanks to your tutorials!!! I'm going to use embroidered Celtic knots for borders. I'm going to put a hood on mine - I'm currently looking for something to show me how to do that and that should also take care of the stress points. Anyhow, thanks again and I really like your Channel. Your Awesome! (Subbed)

you should make a slingshot like Ori had in the hobbit movies, i think its legal to hunt with slingshots in the uk and i think it would make a nice little video
@IodoDwarvenRanger
@IodoDwarvenRanger Жыл бұрын
I don't believe slingshot hunting is legal in the UK without land owner permission so I doubt I would be able to do that, however making the slingshot is a good idea, as I have made several of them in the past

That was great! It really looks nice! So, there's no need to hem the woolen fabric, because you are going to sew the linen border on top of it?
@IodoDwarvenRanger
@IodoDwarvenRanger Жыл бұрын
Thanks :) so yep, there is no need to hem if you're putting a boarder over it because the boarder will stop a woven fabric (like mine) from fraying, however if your fabric is a dense boiled wool that doesn't look like it will fray, there's no real need to hem it at all

field test yes, I trek in in kit in the woods/mountains/wilderness in all weathers regularly, however I have never done an overnight-er in kit, simply because I don't have enough kit or anywhere to go to do it
