These Sea Salt Spa bars are so luxurious and fun to make! I'm using white kaolin clay and red Moroccan clay for colorants. I'm hand stiring to reach emulsion, no stick blending. #soapmaking #saltsoap #cpsoap
Basic Recipe:
48 oz Coconut oil
6 oz Castor oil
3 oz Cocoa butter
3 oz Shea butter
8.2 oz Lye
19.3 oz Aloe vera juice/ water
30 oz Sea Salt
(this is a 20% SF)
To this recipe I'm adding some Clays, Organic Colloidal Oats, Tussah silk fiber, Coconut Milk powder and fragrant oil.
PLEASE use cation and safety gear when dealing with Lye.
I love to create good for you, handcrafted soaps using the cold process method of soap making.

I'm very new/green in soaping products. I just started this year & I've watched more you tubes than I care to admit (spent more time on that vs soaping). You are, by far, my favorite teacher after watching many soaper's. You are an excellent communicator. Your communication is in layman terms, you are fast, efficient & passionate about your work. It's obvious to the viewers that you love what you do. I will be following all of your work. Don't change anything. :-)

Salt bars are my favorite bars to use on my face. I find the salt to be a gentle exfoliant if I use the bar directly on my face. When I don't want exfoliation, the salt is perfect for drawing out toxins without drying out my face. I love them. ❤

Hi Ellen. Thanks again. I love making salt bars but I always blend to a thin trace then add the salt and pour. Never tried this method before but I will give it a shot. On another note, I made 8 different bars of soap of 10 each and they are done curing. This means they are ready to be sold and I am so very nervous 🙊 Its now getting all very real. Love and greetings from Pretoria, South Africa ♥️😘

I'm a newbie. Love your videos. I have a question on this recipe. How can you be sure that you have reached emulsion if you haven't really got a trace yet? 🤔
@EllenRuthSoap

If you pause blending and the oils don't rise to the top, you've reached emulsion, meaning they are fully bonded with the liquid portion.

Hii Ellen, I'm wondering if your salt bars are sweating because of the salt. And if they are, what do you do to get rid of it or to avoid it? I made some himalayan pink salt bars and they sweat a lot. Idk whether it's because of the choice of the salt or every salt bar does sweat. Pretty soap bars anyway, Ellen! I love listening to your explanation about your products!

Good question, I've never used himalayan salt in the bars before, so I'm not sure if that's the issue? I haven't had a sweating problem thus far. I don't wrap them until they are fully cured...

@@EllenRuthSoap the beer soap had soda ash all over the cut bars. They didn't crack or discolor. They even went through gel phase after being in the fridge for 24 hrs. I thought that was odd? You may not be able to answer this, so I guess I’m just asking for an opinion, but I have always been a little afraid of salt soaps because I have sensitive skin and had a bad reaction to salt scrubs before. Are these more gentle than the scrubs would be for sensitive skin? I’m thinking they have the benefit of all the butters....
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 4 жыл бұрын
I do think these would be way less aggressive than a salt scrub, the exfoliating factor is very gentle. I find them quite soothing on the skin.

Hello , these are the oils I have available, I want a good lathering salt soap , these are the oils I have available, help me choose, coconut oil, olive oil (pomace), cocoa butter, Shea butter. I plan using your same measurement. Thanks in advance.

You'll need to use a soap calculator for this. Those are all good oils.

Hi Ellen! I think I will make some of these tonight for Christmas gifts. How much of the coconut milk powder and the colloidal oats did you add? And how many of the floral bars will your recipe make? I only have one of those molds, so I was thinking I probably need to quarter this recipe? Or maybe a 3rd? I do have a smaller floral mold that I could make some little "baby" soaps with as well if I had extra batter. Or maybe I will just run to Hobby Lobby and see if they have the same mold and buy extras lol.
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 3 жыл бұрын
I usually add 2-3 T of the dry additives. And I can typically get about 30 flower bars

How much fragrance oil did you use on this recipe. You didn't comment on that one..

It depends on the fragrance, not all have the same usage rate so I don't typically give that number.

@@EllenRuthSoap If you are giving a soap recipe out to us (with specific ounces) why wouldn't you give out the amount of this particular fragrance oil you used for this....As a soaper- I don't get it.....

@@dianeweitknecht646 I really want to encourage other soapers to calculate the IFRA usage rate for their own particular batch. Each F.O. is different, and knowing how to calculate the amount helps most soapers, so they can size up or down their batches and use different F.O.'s...
