Working with steel is fun if you have the right tools.
Sheet metal roller bender is a machine that I don't have, so I decided to make it :)
I used a lot of scrap yard stuff so the cost was very low.
Thanks to the use of the motor and gearbox, I was able to resign from the crank, which made the work much faster and more pleasant.
With this tool, I can roll 2 mm thick and about 53 cm wide, which should meet my requirements.

The lathe has all the safety features so I'm not worried about that. if there is a wrench in the chuck, the guard cannot be lowered, and if the guard is not lowered, the lathe will not turn on 🙂

On the last roll of the video if you look on the right hand side of your screen you'll see the top middle bar rolling out as you're passing things through , you might consider a screwed on cap that's slightly bigger than the bar or something so that it doesn't roll itself out like that.

Everything looks great Just a genuine question though… Why did you go with the composite bushings instead of roller bearings?
@manickn6819
@manickn6819 Жыл бұрын
That is not a composite. Its round stock PVC. Machines really nice but its soft. Those would plastically deform in a very short time. If he wanted to do a bushing instead of a bearing he should have used bronze ideally. Brass is a little soft but its still a lot better than PVC.

As a side note. ◇2 HDPE plastic is easy to use. With a jig the plastic when soft can been molded into things like knobs , handles etc. Just one question: Why didn't you use the lathe to true up / smooth out the rollers? I can't argue how well it works just as it is.👍🏻

Can't say I'm impressed with this build compared with other stuff he's built in the past.. Odd combination of super heavy duty with barely strong enough... The ultra thin walls between holes and the sliding pieces, same with the threaded holes for the adjusters are not very strong. The end plates are super thick plate, but joined with just two strips of thin L-channel.. Then aluminum rollers and plastic bushings.. Yes, you are able to roll 1.5mm stock, but just barely: the rollers are bending and flexing noticeably as you roll and I can see this thing breaking itself after a few uses or you are tempted to try to roll some stock that is just too heavy, especially as there's a motor on it instead of a manual crank and you can't feel the feedback telling you the material or bend radius you're asking for is too much: the motor will just run until something gives... If you're going to all the effort, I would have just built the whole thing super heavy duty and then it would last for years vs just a project or two before becoming the subject of or scrap recycling for the next project...

Love the build. I could never build anything to this level of detail. My one thought is, would it make more sense to put the switches out of the work area- maybe on the side. So if you get pulled into the machine they aren’t covered by potential material in the rollers and can be quickly accessed to turn off or reverse?
