To get great analog synth bass sounds with pedals, I used an EHX Octave Multiplexer going into a EHX Q-Tron. The manual actually suggests this combo for synth bass. Plus, it's affordable

Not a week since the release of his Opus Magnum on jazz soli transcriptions this pops up where he rocks 3 note riffs brought to the forefront from what used to be just some hiss in loops behind classical inspired melodies. Not to forget he made his name in fusion world. This man is the Janek of all trades

@@jumboshrimp5193 this man mastered the instrument. He basically pioneered the bass fart synth tones on bass. His pinky could give you the one inch death punch. When you are dead nobody is gonna Care about jumbo shrimp but Janek has put a good stamp on the bass community. Bubba gump shrimp tossed you back in the ocean for a reason.

Not to mock, but by the time you've put together a pedalboard like that, you've probably laid out the same money as for a small Moog, and the pedalboard probably doesn't weigh a whole lot less. That's probably $4,000 in pedals alone. Each one of those four Iron Ether pedals normally runs over $400.

You can obtain synths that will sound enough like a Moog for live work for a lot less these days. However, it comes down to interfaces to some extent - if you can't play keys the Moog won't help. A Moog will trigger reliably, though. If you get it set up right, a GK-3B to trigger MIDI can be an option for slower lines (latency) and should track well, but quite possibly a Boss GP-10 or similar might be more reliable for bass synth sounds as there's much less chance of some MIDI note being left on for half a song... I've never used the GP-10, but videos suggest it should work. I have gone down the MIDI rabbit hole with various hardware and software, though.

Chorus can help. Some old multi-FX pedals (e.g. Boss ME-6B) could be used to create some great sounds.
@wbertie2604
@wbertie2604 2 жыл бұрын
The ME-6B was allegedly used by Stuart Zender to create some synth sounds with Jamiroquai, but I've seen varying opinions on whether it was used anything other than live.

Distortion and oscillators both add upper harmonic content, but it can get a bit too raspy. EQ and speaker simulators can take the edge off, but chorus and flanging can also smooth things out.

Useful tools can include a compressor at the front of the signal chain (standard use) but also at the back end to limit resonant peaks from the operation of filters.
@wbertie2604
@wbertie2604 2 жыл бұрын
Another useful tool is a blend, so you can put some of the original signal back in, assuming you aren't using a Boss OC-2 with no direct. It can ensure that filters, distortion, chorus, leave some bass signal in there, and if filters are not tracking well it's a godsend as any unexpected farty drop outs are somewhat covered by some fundamental.

Rotary speaker simulation can be fun with distortion, but can head more towards organ sounds than synth.

Well, they were some very groovy sounds. Me very likely. I've been thinking recently about getting a bass, and now I know that a bass can sound Moog-y I have an extra reason to get one.

Totes reminds me of a better Gristle-iser Throbbing Gristle used on a bunch of stuff. This is super inspiring and I am going to try to do this with terrible Chinese knock off clone pedals. Peace love and pitbulls
