Daaawwling Aunt Coco (& lovely Garrett) as a Brit watching in the UK, I can say I'm quite impressed, you did pretty well, and yes Brits sqeeze, if you're bagging it. Don't forget pour on the water the second it has boiled though! I only drink the 'proper' classic British taste of tea, that you add milk to, here's my top secret recipe, which is the best tea ever. Loose Leaf 1/3 Assam 1/3 Darjeeling 1/3 Kenya Brew for 3.5 to 5 minutes, add milk (or coconut milk) and a little sugar & you MUST have a biscuit (cookie). LOVE you my dawling, wish you were here (or vice verse) Jxx
@Talentedtadpole9 жыл бұрын
+chillmax Agreed. Pre warm pot for 3 - 4 mins by half or completely filling with boiling water & putting the lid on tightly. You can also use a tea cosy to warm the pot & to brew. They are naff but keep your tea warm for a long time. Warming the tea makes for better tea & yes it does matter. Then fill the kettle with freshly drawn water. Only fresh, once boiled water to make the tea. Get all your fancy stuff set out before you boil the water - & it is rude not to offer sugar as an option for guests. As Chillmax says - once the water boils BAM - don't mess about. And yes we do squeeze our bags. Tender but firm. Chillmax - love the recipe, but coconut milk? WTF! you can get deported for that! We CARE about this stuff. Tea can save your life. I love Coco for having a tea timer!
@Chillmax9 жыл бұрын
+Talentedtadpole Hi TTadpole, well spotted, tea cozy an absolute must, you can get simple, but the Granny's old wooly hat is quite sweet. In all my years of tea making I've never filled a pot to warm it & with boiling water, you could & it wouldn't hurt, it's just a waste of water & a kettle uses so much electric ;-) I stopped drinking milk about 2 years ago, so I mentioned coconut milk (UK brand KOKO is nice), as it's the best for tea & coffee, all the others have a problem, they taste bad or separate etc - Almond, Oat, Soya, now they're a deportable offense ;-) xx
@Talentedtadpole9 жыл бұрын
+chillmax I'm shocked - you have never warmed a pot that way?! I think I am going to faint. That is the proper, old school method. At least compromise on half filling the pot to warm. All that cold china is messing up your brew. I am quite upset! Nothing is a waste in pursuit of good tea! I have a collection of tea cosies - from the granny hat classique up to a 20s white cutwork linen cover that does not disgrace my best china. Silver sugar cube tongs? check. vintage cake plates/stands - check. Mad baking skillz - yeah baby. China Toni Raymond sandwich markers, several tea sets of beautiful china, teapots, linens & vintage tray cloths etc...etc... etc... bit mad? Absolutley. I love tea, all the parafernalia & ritual, & spoiling my guests. Ok I won't report you for the coconut milk. We need to get Coco & nice cosy with a bit of style :-) xx
@Chillmax9 жыл бұрын
+Talentedtadpole Yes, you're mad ;-) No, I honestly think most people use the splash of hot water method, maybe mine gets hotter quicker, I haven't used china in years, I use the lovely Piquot Ware, which is metal & a joy to use, no drips & very sturdy. Can't do a lot of tea paraphernalia now, gotta watch those calories, so keeping it simple. xx
@Talentedtadpole9 жыл бұрын
+chillmax It's fun being mad. Thanks! "Most People" with their splashing ARE WRONG. Piquot would be a bit quicker to warm. At least try giving it a bit more of a warm pre brew once, for me :-) Love me some piquot - beautiful! If I have time & am in the mood I do all the fancy even if I am having only tea. Indeed one does have to keep the old arse within acceptable size limits xx

Miss Coco, did you know the tea time was introduced to the royal British kingdom by Infanta Dona Catarina of Portugal and then Queen of England? Although she wasn't very popular because of not having a succession and being catholic, she was very charismatic, chic and intellectual. Not only she introduced british royalty to "five o'clock tea", but also using fine china and cutlery to eat (since they used their fingers and gold & silver plates); tobacco; and listening to soirées d'opera with musicians that were part of her retinue. Her mother, Queen of Portugal, usually sent her oranges to England for making sweet preserved oranges like jam and compote but wrongly named "marmelade" by the british, once the fruit apple quince ("marmelo" in portuguese) is the one that is used to make "marmelada" (the original name). Some oranges got sour during the long trip, so she kept the sweet ones for her, offered it to her ladies-in-waiting too, and gave the bitter ones to her enemies, namely royal concubines. She was sassy like that!

+Lynne Dumas Honest question, are electric kettles a new thing in the states? In my 23 years of life in the UK Ive never known someone who has a non-electric one!
@lynnedumas7469 жыл бұрын
Well, I feel like coffee is more popular in the states so everyone uses Keurigs or coffee machines. Electric kettles certainly exist, but I didn't really figure they'd be useful. Seems like more and more US people are getting them nowadays. I use mine to boil the water to brew my coffee in a French press, as well as to make tea. I think most of us know that they're a thing, but assume boiling a regular kettle to be just as good.
@Talentedtadpole9 жыл бұрын
+ASHERUISE You need to get a good quality one honey - checkout amazon reviews or whatnot. Some makes are bullshit. A good kettle should last years. Doesn't have to be mega bucks. Good also to go to a decent store & see what you like the feel of (then buy that fucker online). I was checking out kettles in John Lewis (UK) with my friends young daughter, & we were popping all the lids just like coco did - cos it's fun. Bitch sales lady gave us the side eye.
