Just to clarify, is the aim that the heater end should be at melting temperature, but then a long screwthread part to avoid heat creep, and fans used to cool the thread part?

Now i know where e3d got the idea of titan aero from, your extruder setup look like a cheap version of that. I don'have the tools to make this. Our fanlab don't have either, but i've checked a hackspace might have this kind of equipment.

I used 3mm ptfe (with 2mm hole). But I drilled 50% into nozzle and 80% into throat from other side as you. So my tube starts just after the throat 2mm hole and ends in the middle of nozzle.. don't know how a jam looks like ;)

Sorry but i don't sell, also i go on e3d v6 for a few $ works good.

I am looking forward for getting a lathe myself, what is the one that you are using?
@TinC336 жыл бұрын
AnsonCTA mine is brand erba type 300 some austrian brand, but it's basic chineese lathe, you can buy many differend brand like grizzly in us and optimum in de... But they'r all the same from china, just differend colour and different switches, stickers... Great small lathe anyway, i pay $320 about 10years ago but today is the same lathe in same store almost $500.

tintek33 Can you please post the link for me? I am aware there are tons of scam sellers in China.
@TinC336 жыл бұрын
don't order direct from china, you will pay a lot of tax in this way, find your local dealer, everyone seel his own brand, but in basic they'r all the same. i got this one: erba.at/index.php/default/drehmaschine-compact-300.html but the price here was not real, it cost arround €500 now. but look for your local dealer, in austria you got also bernardo.at or optimum.de, if you'r from USA search for grizzly brand... or ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/600W-Metal-Mini-Lathe-Metalworking-Woodworking-Power-Tool-Turning-Machine/182906020598?epid=20009766315&hash=item2a960c62f6:g:CcwAAOSwsYpaDlXk

tintek33 Thank you so much for the detailed reply :D. Is there any other machine model you would recommend? I saw some of the lathe includes a milling spindle beside the way of lathe. If possible I would go for those combined lathe and milling
@TinC336 жыл бұрын
AnsonCTA yes i see that one with a mill but i think it's better to bought a real independent mini mill. Make a lot of search before you bougt you can get one for $400 or $900 but they be almost the same. There also some webside about all modification on that minilathe, search for "minilathe" i think that would be first or second result.

you missed a BIG opertunity to make a all metal throat. it would be easier as all you need is a single hole down the middle fort the filament, and it would be stronger cause there is no thin spot caused by the teflon tube.
@ozgurakman104 жыл бұрын
So you are recommending making barrel without teflon tube?
@leephcom4 жыл бұрын
Yeah except an all metal throat is much more susceptible to heat creep than a PTFE lined one. A simple piece of threaded rod with a 2mm hole through the middle is simply not sufficient. Have a look at the E3D metal hotend, it requires a fairly big finned heatsink and active fan above the melt zone to stop thermal conduction up the throat.
@doctorboat71126 жыл бұрын
try upgrading printer to v6 hot end and mount stepper on frame. Removing all that moving mass of the stepper has improved my prints ten fold. If you spend this much effort making your own throat, the upgrade should be fairly easy. Beware chinese knockoff are $20.00 instead of e3d $80.00, but the throats on chinese versions are horrid and will jam.

I was more concerned about slicing toward the thumb with the razor blade. Very nice project though. Too bad I don't have the machine used...would love to buy some of these if they ever end up on ebay =)
@gabiold4 жыл бұрын
I rewatched the video just to judge this... I haven't seen any dangerous movement around the lathe nor with the knife to cause any accident. Did you guys never have used razor blade shaver? Knife on the face, whoooo! 😆 No amount of rule-of-thumb safety would protect you, if you do not have situational awareness and can't control or know your body and the equipment around you. Just keep sensible distance from moving parts, it is that simple. This is the only rule that can save you. Btw. when making heavier cuts (not on this lathe obviously), the flying hot chips surely won't feel good on bare skin. 😉
