I had the 100 mile Galliger charger. I ran a hot wire all around our property line. We had 26 acres. That was a big job, but that really paid off when it came to portable pastures. I could grab a hot wire off the nearest property line. I took a hammer drill and a generator and drilled holes in the top stones of the stone wall. I used short scrap peases of #4 rebar for my stakes. Most were tight, It the hole was too big a had a tube of caulk Id use to cement the stake in the hole. Down on the 9 hole golf coarse, I used a solar charger. That was always iffy. I had a Great Perininneees down there with the sheep. She kept the predators away ( mostly domestic dogs), but she didn't keep them in the fence. I was down there every day moving fence I would switch the battery out from my pickup if the solar was weak, it usually was. That was a hassle, so was collecting up sheep when they got out. But they had good grass, that helped. I mowed all my hay down there on the fairways. If you harvest the stones it makes the new ones grow faster.

Lumnah Acres - mixed herd....Heifers and Jersey’s...Love them all...I work for a young couple not far from our house. I was blessed to learn something new in addition to my full time job, which is in the field of Dentistry. With respect to our first flock of laying hens, we’re at between 70-80% of the hens laying now. I chuckle, I wonder which TWO are holding out...LOL...

Good at growing rocks isn't necessarily a bad thing. Imagine in the years to come all of those rock piles along the edge of the field offering homes to beneficial animals of all types, which will help control the pests in the field. It will be the gift that keeps on giving for years to come, so think of that every time you pick one up, you aren't just making the field better because there are less rocks, you are making a home for things to prey on the pests as well. Thanks for the video.

The strings and draw bridge was a great idea! We used to build blanket forts when we were kids. Thats a good setup for a smoker. Those little stoves are great. I'm just finishing up splitting my winter wood. Cleaned the woodstove and the chimney yesterday.

The projects always seem bigger then what we think. We wanted to redo our deck railing and stain everything and then flip all the boards so that we could put them closer together because the previous owner didn't do a very good job. So far it's taken all summer and we still aren't done. SOOOOO much work, especially since the deck is about 1100 sq ft.

Enjoyed the video. We used to pull a stone boat around the fields and pick rocks. A lot of bending and those rocks can be heavy. My Irish Great Grandparents homestead was in He'll, Michigan, they built a stone fence...pretty cool. I have one of the stones from the fence. Love you guys.

For along the rock walls: my Grandfather planted horseradish. Thus when you harvest it, it is easier to unpile rocks than to dig up the roots. Midwest farmer saying, "prety good farming land if you are willing to pick a few rocks". Rocks boil up from the ground. To test this, shake a jar of mixed nuts. Notice the large nuts come to the top.

The new pasture is laying down pretty flat so it should be easy to mow and the animals should be safe using it. I don't envy your job fencing it in that rocky soil. Farm looks good.

Thanks for your videos. The bacon looks delicious. You need to add grits to this meal. My grandfather from Massachusetts loved grits when he visited us in NC 30 years ago. I actually mix my eggs with grits and bacon together. It is delicious.

Wish I could transplant a ton of those rocks for ya. We have no rocks at all, just sand. Not even growing dirt. Literally just sand. I have noticed with the rake on my compact tractor it definitely takes 4-6 passes to get it to clean up good. Just with sand it tends to dig a little to much. I absolutely love tractors. I use mine ALL the time. I'm currently setting up a 100yd shooting range. I couldn't do it without the tractor. (Yanmar 221)

Al, What ya need for that field is a Bobcat with a Rockhound on the front. It literally rakes the rocks out and leaves a perfect rock and stick free seed bed. Are there any rental places around you ? Just letting you know, have a great day.

august I don't think that would work at this stage. Those rocks are way too big for a rock hound. They're more for tilling. They're too delicate (the spikes) for pulling the size rocks they've got.

Try angling your York rake so that debris spills out the side in a windrow - you can work a few rows over together (maybe even to the tree line) and then come along and pick up the debris with the loader. Easier pick-up and the rake will work better because it will not "ride-up" over ground debris from the accumulate debris in the tines. Good luck!
