One day of the year is a bit better than all others: It's the day you take out your motorcycle for the new motorcycle season! For me up here in north west of Norway it happens during the spring, and that is now!
If the motorcycle is in tip top shape and quite new, it should not be much to do other than perhaps wash away some dust and fill it up with gas. Mine is not that. Before I can start using it need to do some repairs and I also want to do some upgrades to it. I have planned a motorcycle trip in two months, is it doable to get it fixed in time?

Hahaha, oh man, i love your videos🤣 First, you fight with your Elephant from the shed to the garage on nearly flat tire...and then you start it....the burner🤣 And youre right, everybody HAVE TO paint the white wall to a little darker white ( some will call it lightgrey) to see the bike better🤣 At this time i thought, you will paint it black, but no, you found a better colour. 🤣And the typical norwegian music you played at the paintjob🤣 Be sure, i am always happy to get the message from youtube, you have load up a video. Grab me a beer and enjoy your stories and your cameratricks. Greetings from the snowless South

If I had known it would start that easily... 🥴😝 Glad you liked the grey color, darker would have been cool on video but it's best to keep it somewhat bright in the workshop.

I’m jealous of your cool Elefant, and I miss Norway. Winters are interesting and challenging, but mostly prefer after 1st May. Thank you for sharing.

Love seeing people rebuilding underrated motorcycle. I am rebuilding my Yamaha TDM 850 4TX from 1998 and I am so excited to see your build as well. Have fun and keep us posted. Love from Romania!

I have to admit: the Yamaha TDM 850 has gone under the radar for my part, I had to Google it and I must say: what a cool bike 🤩 I have looked at a lot of Tenere's, but this looks quite different. It seems to be a mix of a road touring bike and an adventure bike, that's a very clever mix 😊 Good luck with the rebuild!!!

@@kihestadYes, it pretty much gone under my radar as well until I saw an advert somewhere close to me and I had to see it. It's a hybrid bike indeed, 2 cyl 270 deg. crossplane engine with around 80-ish hp. Not ideal for offroad, but a hooligan in the twisties while maintaining a comfortable touring experience. Looking forward to more videos in the Cagiva. Keep in touch.

Ki, thank you for sharing your journey with your Cagiva. I have a 1986 Cagiva Elefant that needs a great deal of love. Like you, I live in a cold climate in Wisconsin (USA) and our riding time is limited. I look forward to following your progress and hopefully follow your in-depth instructions. Best of luck

I had to look up the climate in Wisconsin compared to Norway, and you are right. Average temperatures are pretty much the same, although you have slightly hotter summers while the winters are a bit colder 😊 Glad you liked the video, and I'll try my best to share the work and the improvements I do.

Colour coordinating your garage with your motorcycle - that's dedication! My garage is just full of bits of my motorcycle 😕 What you describe with the wobbly piston is called "Piston slap" in English. As for the front brake, English and American can't agree on the name. In American it's the rotor, in English the disc. So disc is correct 😁
@kihestad

Dedication it is 😁 Aha: 'piston slap', have not heard that expression but it does make sense. In Norwegian slang we call it 'skjørtebank' = 'skirt knocking', where the skirt refers to the lower part of the piston 😊

The crankshafts had big problems with the big ends at around 20k miles. My cousin had a yamaha dealership and had many 900ss and even Darmah engines blowing up. Lovely bikes however when they ran well. My mate had a 1981 model with a black and gold tank however the pantah 500 was a far better design engine and another mate bored it out to 620cc and the handling and performance and reliability was a gamechanger for Ducati and the monster came out not long after based on that new Pantah design of motor with cam belts rather than bevel drive to the desmo valves like on the 750SS racers of the mid 1970s. Another guy i knew had the 750 he specially imported from Italy. There were a few absolutely brilliant guys in the bike club who built bespoke bikes and one guy bores out 650 yamaha twins and rephazes the crankshaft with better oil feeds, cooling. He is the original inventor of this in SW London and does all the machinimg and design himself and they dont go bang. He is a true legend.

I have been told this 750cc engine from 1990 is one of the better ones, mentioned by people in the "elefant community". I don't know much about these engines yet, looking forward to adjusting the desmo valves 😬

Hi, that is cool. We have the same bike then, an exclusive club 🤩Yes, this bike did not have the Lucky Explorer decals originally. I have been a bit worried about the engine sound, perhaps it's nothing to worry about
