There are eight teams since 1970 that I think you can make the argument for as being the greatest NBA team of all time. The 2000-2001 Lakers are one of them.

@@alexhennigh5242 funny he would be, but if you actually break down the numbers Kobe should not (for clutch anyway) he has more clutch shots made, but his percentage in making those shots are pretty low. If I remember correctly in terms of buzzer beater shots Kobe was like 25% which was really low compared to other greats in clutch situations... was he afraid to take them? Nope... did he always make them.... nope definitely not... numbers don’t lie...

Right. And Superman and Batman, they are not always best friends too. Yet when it comes to safe the earth, the two superheroes work like magic. Superman was born with the power. He doesn't have to train nor think as hard as Batman. Batman is a super strong man, yet he is just human. He needs to train hard, think hard, prepare everything perfectly to be one of the best superheroes among god like aliens or meta humans.

Kobe - the man EVERY damn player in today's league looked up to - would also DOMINATE this non-defense-playing, spaced-out version of basketball we see today. And then the rest of the roster of all-time 3&D masters in Fox, Horry, and Shaw along with still athletic, rebounder Horace Grant with his automatic 20 ft J. I hope you can read your comment and see the discrepancies in it. How can a team you feel be one of the greatest teams ever if they were underrated? The 2001 Lakers were never viewed as underrated and other teams such as the 2017 Golden State Warriors were clearly viewed as the best team. So how can a team that didn’t dominate until the Finals in 2014 be considered one of the greatest teams ever?

Got to say I was (am) a huge raptors fan. We lost to AI and the 76ers in game 7 in 2001 on a final shot. All I remember was thinking was, “man I wish we could have gone to the finals, and then got swept by the Lakers.” This team in my opinion was the easiest to predict victory of any team in history. Shaq was superhuman, Kobe was so talented. I literally think even if one of them was injured they would have still been the favourites. I hate them, but they were good

Clayton, I hope you include chipless teams, like the 04 suns, 16 Warriors although you may do 17, 93 suns and 07 mavs, my argument is realistically that the 07’ patriots are known as the best team of modern nfl history and my giants beat them, a championship isn’t the final signifier of greatness, with the 04 suns, they had so many great players and concepts it would be a shame to watch it go unseen.

The difference between football and basketball is that in football you only play one game. And anyone can loose one game. But to beat a great team in a 7 game series is another thing. Imagine if the finals was one game then Iverson would of won a chip

@@The_Royal_Lobster Well, the 16 Cabs beat the 16 Warriors and I think the Warriors were so much better. I don’t believe there are many objective points to argue the opposite. The 02 Lakers weren’t better then the 02 Kings. The 89 Bulls weren’t better then the 89 Cavs. The 01 Sixers weren’t better then the 01 Bucks. The 06 Heat weren’t better then the 06 Mavs. All of course in my opinion. But you get the point.

I know your wondering Clayton's specific thoughts on it, but if I may chime in. I think one reason could be that Kareem was a bit older by the time he played with Magic. He was still a dominant player, but he was 32 by the time Magic was drafted. His prime was in the 70's in Milwaukie and those first years with the Lakers. Kobe and Shaq just played more of their prime years together.

And Big Game James and Coop and Byron Scott. That 1987 Lakers team was the best team in NBA history, and they faced a more worthy adversary in the great 80s Celtics than any team Kobe and Shaq played against. Their biggest obstacle was actually the Spurs in the West, (as well as Sacramento for a couple of years) more than any Eastern Finals opponent.
