The beeches you made are a little steep. I think if you could just use the slope terrain tool from the water to the road they would look much more realistic. Also, kids play in the sand, not just in the water, so you should have some of the "hang-out-zones" on the sand not in the water.

Stopped by to suggest a similar thing! I wonder how it would have looked if the beach was left intact but the parks were placed further out to use the original slope, perhaps with a loop road to get down to the fronts of the park areas? Great video though, making custom assets is pretty interesting!
@JamesBeaucoup Жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly! And like, chairs being so close to the water isn't realistic on an ocean facing beach with larger waves like this one, i think just having the swim area sloped up would fix both issues like you suggest

You beat me to it. I'd suggest a switchback road a couple of meters lower than the main road. The height difference would work as a sea barrier during high tides and/or storms

Beaches are a bit steep as others have mentioned. I know the issue is you want to connect it to the road without messing with the height of the existing road. A solution could be to use a pedestrian road that parallels the road to allow you to set the road at a lower point to make it a bit more gradual when going from road => water.
@Xiyng Жыл бұрын
I was thinking about a frontage road, but a pedestrian street would actually be perfect for that.

@foamyesque Жыл бұрын
Couple of thoughts: 1. For the beaches, you might have been able to avoid sloping them so severely by creating a pedestrian area and putting a pedestrian road across it part way down to dock the new assets to. 2. For jumping power in a Parklife park I really like some of the Nature Reserve assets, which require no power but can jump it. The viewing platforms, piers, and viewing towers in particular can slot in pretty well almost anywhere, and both contribute mechanically to the park and *look* much nicer than the earthquake sensors.
@RB-zf2ji Жыл бұрын
For the resort beach, it might be worth creating a little bay for the swimmers instead of having them take a dip right in the river's pretty strong main current. A small spit of land where the shoreline used to be, to shield them from the current, would probably be already enough to still the waters somewhat. 😊 Great build overall though. Loving all of the additions! ❤

I love how huge Verde Beach is, the tropical nature, I love seeing BEACHES finally in Verde Beach, and the different planning decisions are amazing. Clearwater County is also amazing because it feels like a window into the real world, with the control level you'd expect IRL and some very unique builds that aren't possible in VB (not only because of mods- the little suburb you made last CWC episode doesn't fit terribly well in VB but just feels like a natural expansion of CWC). I use KZbin for a lot of different purposes but your channel is one things that always keeps me coming back and engaged!

Wow. I genuinely didn’t know you could create custom assets in vanilla. Possibly because I have 81 tiles turned on. That is really cool! At first I wasn’t too keen on the steep beaches, but then I remembered I used to live in San Clemente, CA and the beaches there are like this. A high, dry area with loose sand, a short but steep slope, and a low, flat area with wet sand that is easy to walk on. The only differences are that the beaches there are much narrower than these ones, and that in real life there is no engine limitation that makes rocks pop out when the slope gets too steep.

A few things that I think are missing from your beaches: 1.) In addition to the concessions, you should have restroom facilities. Maybe the park restroom from Parklife city parks? Or an outhouse/porta-potty from the nature preserve park? 2.) Is there any way to get some lifeguard towers in there? Maybe a Firewatch tower would be a reasonable substitute? 3.) Perhaps you could create a beach asset that has a volleyball net, so citizens could do a little beach volleyball? 4.) Are there any surfboard assets that you could add? Either standing up in the sand or floating in the water? There's also a couple of floating kayak models in the nature preserve park assets (thought they don't have any people in them).
@frenchfriar Жыл бұрын
I definitely think it would have been better to place a road furyher out on the beach, maybe a gravel road, and place those beach assets lower down on the beach, than to terraform the beach so steeply just to have them meet your road. RESPECT the topography! The steep sandy beaches just look off to me now. Still a fantastic idea, and I love the assets, it's just that they feel forced in instead of fitting to the waterline. Besides, Verde Beach just lost a LOT of coastline, that can't be good. Love the monorail/tram solution, and the lake in the park is absolutely beautiful. Over all, fantastic work, Phil. I do love how busy the beaches look.

Just watched the video. That last section of beach you put in near the river, it needs a break wall or something to cut the strength of the current down drastically. There would be massive RIP currents there as you can clearly see the water rushing through the swim area. Swim smart. Swim safe. Also lookout towers from the Nature Preserve (the shorter ones) could double as Life Guard Huts. Maybe see if they or maybe the Fishing Pier hits are in the buildings section in the assets in Creative (not up to par on terms. Lol) and add them? Also a "boardwalk" added on it with an elevated Nature Preserve path might be cool too. Lastly (sorry to be lengthy) that water outlet. Some backstory to explain it in mythos could either be an underwater tomb for a water enthusiast who also loved parks and was so beloved by the town they fulfilled the final wish with the creation of the lake. I dunno. Just a thought. People have had some unique burial wishes. This one is not too far fetched. Call her Aqua-Marie and name the lake in "her" honor as well. Keep up the great work. You should add these beaches to your "Revisited City" series too.

Love this idea! It looks so much more lively. I think that the slopes are a bit steep on some of the beaches though. I think it would look better if the beach itself was more or less level, with a cliff or quay separating the sand from the road level. As someone who lives in a tropical area similar to Verde Beach, a decent number of beaches look like this so it wouldn't be out of place.
@Sam-es2gf Жыл бұрын
The lake looks fantastic and I'll definitely be using that style of build in my vanilla game but I'm not a fan of the beach. Okay, you can do a little something about the steepness/slopes, but you can't change the clothed sims in the water or the asset being straight, so it'll never "fit" the outline of the shore. I preferred it before, it's just impossible to make a functioning beach in vanilla. The only things I can think of to suggest to help is to offset the beach from the road (with a frontage road/parking, etc) a bit to help with the slopes, then put the "gather" points near the sea, but not in it.

At 37:10, it looks like it might've made more sense to build a new road closer to the original waterfront, and find something else to build between that and the existing road. You'd still probably want to flatten the slope at the edge of the water a bit, but at least the topography would look more like a natural beach instead of an old sand mine.

37:53 Also ensuring that the resort would think that was worth it, they are *excavating* sand, not filling it. That much sand is money, or very necessary fill for more eroded sections of their beach. Win-win for them.

1. Major League Baseball has just announced the 6 teams selected for their latest expansion: National League East: New Jersey Demons, playing in one of the Meadowlands stadiums. National League Central: Indiana Hoosiers, based in Indianapolis. National League West: Verde Beach, owned by a partnership between Sterling Development, Lewis Lumber, and the Hamilton family. The team name, as well as where exactly in Verde Beach the ballpark will be located will be up to Phil and comment section. American League East: Carolina Kitty Hawks, based in Charlotte. American League Central: Superior Yoopers, based in Van Buren. See #2. American League West: Jefferson Pioneers, based in Modesto. 2. The Superior Yoopers is another partnership between Frank "The Tank" Battaglia's Superior Team Management (who will be the managing partner) and Johnson Aggregates. The team colors will be the same as the Superior state flag; dark blue, dark green and white. The mascot and team logo will be that of a big, beefy batter swinging a tree, hitting a baseball, with a four-pointed star (like the state flag) where the tree hits the ball. The Yoopers will play in the new Johnson Aggregates Center, along with the stadium that houses the Superior Coyotes (formerly the Arizona Coyotes) and Superior Timberwolves (formerly the Minnesota Timberwolves). Superior State University's Buccaneer Stadium hosts the NFL's Superior Jaguars (formerly the Jacksonville Jaguars). (Note: the comments section can pick the name of the Verde Beach team, and the name of the Yoopers' Nicolet Bay minor league team, but the name for Superior's team will be the Yoopers.). 3. Superior Yoopers Co-owner and managing partner Frank "The Tank" Battaglia has just picked the locations for their minor league teams, all owned and operated by Superior Team Management: Triple A: Duluth Superiors, International League. Double A: Bethlehem (PA) Ironmen, Eastern League. High A: See #4, Midwest League. Single A: Jacksonville (FL) Superiors, Florida State League, playing out of their spring training facilities. Rookie: DSL Yoopers, Dominican Summer League, FSL Yoopers, Florida Complex League, also playing out of the Yoopers' spring training complex in Jacksonville. 4. In a private dining room at the Bluebird supper club in Evergreen, Nicolet Bay's movers and shakers have gathered to discuss the plans for Nicolet Junction, the proposed casino/hotel/convention center/lifestyle center at the intersection of I-75 and I-98. Ojibwa tribal president and Couillard mayor Tim Keqoum, Tim's younger brother and Ojibwa Foods president Jim Keqoum, Chippewa Lumber CEO and Evergreen and Marquette Island co-developer Ben Begay, Ben's wife and Evergreen Mayor Kara Begay, Sam and Laura Adams, Bluebird owners and Evergreen developers, Homebuilder, Evergreen developer and Marquette Island co-developer Russ Kowalski were joined by Russ' high school friend, former catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins, and owner of Superior Team Management Frank Battaglia. Frank offered to build the ballpark for the Superior Yoopers' High A Midwest League minor league baseball team either in or next to Nicolet Junction, as well as opening a Yoopers apparel/sports memorabilia store, sports bar and Battaglia's supper club/Italian restaurant in Nicolet Junction. 5. When Terry Brown saw the announcement that the Yoopers were opening a minor league team in Nicolet Junction, he knew it would be the start of a rivalry, because through his connections with the owner of the Detroit Tigers, he was going to move the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Tigers' High A Midwest League minor league baseball team to move to his city on the Michigan side of the I-75 bridge.

I love the new beach, it has so much life! Lots of coastal communities with popular beaches, like Panama City Beach, and Duluth, and are recognizing the importance of sand dunes in protecting the waterfront from erosion. What if that second beach area was converted to a dune restoration zone? Some dunes are vegetated with grasses. I think that an environmentally minded organization in Verde Beach would be very interested in restoring dunes to the shoreline. Dunes are as common on coastlines as they are in the desert!

I'm way too late to comment on this one, but thought I'd add my two cents. My experience at the beach is that most people are in the shallows, very close to shore, then a good chunk are a little further out, and very few brave folks are way out in the water. I think you should only have a couple of the hangout spots at the furthest point, And the closer you get to the road the more hangout spots there are.
