It was really good to hear all that information about grocery store flowers. I always knew cut flowers had ethical issues. But that really broke down all the draw backs. Now I always make sure to buy local.

Thanks for clueing us in on the business side of things. Most of us I'm sure are unaware of how the flower market works. I'm not sure how things work north of the border but would guess they work pretty much the same with respect to foreign flowers coming in. Beautiful bouquet . 💐

Yes, the majority of roses in the Northern hemisphere are imported from Ecuador, Colombia and Kenya, where workers get paid around $1-2 per day to work in pretty tough conditions, unfortunately.

Thank you for keeping it real! Growing my own flowers without spraying makes me happy. Sharing my flowers feels even better. I live in the country and find joy working amongst the flowers while watching the bees and butterflies. Thank you for your special videos!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love how much you educate along with your demonstrations. Just that bunch of roses alone, straight out of the bucket are so stunning. I love the varieties you grow. A rose is not a rose to me without scent. It shows how much people can save if they want a lot of fresh flowers and make the effort to grow their own cut flowers.

Absolutely! This is why I love educating on how to grow your own, it really is so rewarding and can save you bunches if you're a flower lover!

I at first thought the stem price of roses was way too high.. Then, realized the size and fullness are not the grocery store or cheaper florist standards. Yours are spectacular! 🤔😁🍻🍀❤

Common Flower Farms in England creates bouquets too big for her hands by making three similar bouquets and then tying them together into one large bouquet. Thought I'd pass that along, I haven't tried it yet, I have no need to make a bouquet that big - yet. Your bouquet was beautiful.

Very interesting the business side to marketing flowers. I wish when I got married 10 yrs ago that I went to a flower farm for my wedding. Wedding flowers with a florist is crazy expensive.

Finding local flowers will be my next project. This year I’ve grown Cornell bronze dahlias and next year I will grow more. I’m on a waiting list for Roald Dahl roses to compliment them. You might watch Common Flower Farm for ideas about huge bouquets (wedding flowers etc). Hers are spectacular.

When Georgie Newbury from common farm flowers makes giant bouquets, she makes three large bouquets and then ties them together. Makes the large bouquet much more manageable.

Thank you for speaking about Trader Joe’s It’s Really disheartening when For me when someone tells me they could get it cheaper at TJs it’s why I stopped growing cut flowers for the last 2 years. And the vase life on Ecuadorian roses isn’t good at all. Love your videos.

So what’s the bouquet going to be used for? Or are you going to display it at home? Is that a loss for the farm then? Really good to know about the grocery flowers I had no clue! Growing my own flowers just for fun is such a struggle esp roses. I finally just started ignoring them and now they’re doing better 😂

I saved some stems for myself and donated the rest to a hospice near me. I'm not selling much at the moment as I work on a project!

The rose Lady of Shallot was actually named after Tennyson's poem. So it's pronounced more like shuh-LOT, with the emphasis on the second syllable

Unfortunately the lobbyists for florist's societies lobby for cheaper flowers and tariff reductions. They directly work against US growers. It's unfortunate.

So does anybody actually buy the roses then?
@Blossomandbranch
@Blossomandbranch Жыл бұрын
Yup! Mostly used for weddings and events, but other US farms like Menagerie and Rose Story Farm sell and ship roses for around $3.50 to $5/stem plus shipping. It's a different customer but they do exist. :)

@@Blossomandbranch "they do exist" is the one thing im learning all the time haha... But im also from Europe and maybe some things work here than dont work in the US and vice versa. The market is smaller. But I guess weddings are their own sort of thing anyways. Never occured to me how many fake flowers are used for them too until recently...

This is my second time commenting about this. It isn't Lady of Shallot. That's a vegetable. It's Lady of Shalott. The emphasis is on the first part. It's pronounced: sha·luht.
