It's funny, I've always done this thing where I listen to music I know, but turn it down to almost inaudible. That way, the peaks turn to subtleties, and the quiet moments become silence. You can hear something that sounds like music, but only just, and new things begin to appear in a piece you are very familiar with. The result is nothing like the original piece, but something new :)

That's the foundation of ambient music, actually. Legend says than when Brian Eno came up with the idea for his seminal ambient works, he was bedridden, and someone put a record on but it was raining and the music was too low. Then, the idea came to him, to make music without form, happening on the threshold of listening.

Want to go on a creative trip? Play with different songs on different floors/areas of your home. Like Tears for Fears and Nine Inch Nails. Or Garth Brooks and SYL. I could do this all day. The secret is to balance the volume so that you’re, say, brushing your teeth in the bathroom and you can’t tell which song is which…because it’s new and unrepeatable. Then listen to ambient.

Devin, whether you realize this or not, all your music has been ambient. You just chose to embellish it with your voice and guitar, and it was amazing. More please. You have defined something that music hasn't realized yet. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say listening to your music is akin to a religious experience. You've reached the pinnacle of zen.

The way these 3 projects; Puzzle, Snuggles, and Lightwork, have come together has been really interesting to witness. After following the journey that made Empath happen, this feels very different. Which makes sense, since these were very different circumstances.

Fascinating. Absolutely. The thought process behind the art is very often the hidden gem of the art work. To open it to people opens the final product far beyond what it could've been on it's own and the process merges along becoming inseparable and vital part of the finished piece of art.

It's crazy how ambient music is a creation in itself and is such an amazing foil to inspire creation. I get lost in a world as a background noise, sending me into a dreamlike state, yet if I listen hard I can find intricate details from which I can cherry pick any small piece and fly off on a tangent. Almost perpetual in its creative guise.

I can imagine this to be integrated into some kind of video game realm Dev. Land/space or mind scape, where u use a avatar and white you explore, it creates sounds and videos based on ur playstyle thus creating a song, developed for the gamer. Completely custom for that user. Will Devi ever consider some kind of new video game that has never been fathomed? I'd call it Devonscape.
