I'm an rc guy and I love ghostbusters so this is great. The vxl has a brushless motor and beefier axles. So it would probably last longer with those big tires, but this also probably isn't going to get run regularly and hard so it won't be so much of an issue. Awesome build.

You mention that you don't have a lot of experience with RC cars, and I understand that this is important as a disclaimer for people looking for that expertise. However... no one knows everything (at first, anyway 😀). Being able to go out and learn what you need to know to get the job done is possibly the most critical making skill of all. I commend you for sharing your process, including the parts where you didn't let lack of familiarity with a topic get in the way of your project. Well done.

9:48 ask Adam to transform the adapters from thread to expanding thread. Then, you'll have what you want, where you reach into the hub with an allen wrench and screw the grub screw into the adapter, expanding it and thus capturing the wheel. Alternatively, you can find the strongest glue and glue them on.
@dorsk842 жыл бұрын
When I saw the movie in the theaters I knew it was either a shortened Monster Truck, Horizon hobbies Granite or a E-Maxx, or a smaller stadium truck, Stampede or the Horizon version, with just larger tires. This just confirms my suspension. Thank for this vid. For the doors you need micro servos and a Y- harness, and possibly a programmable controller.
@PelleKuipers2 жыл бұрын
I like your typo.
@Jonathan_Chong2 жыл бұрын
Yeah was wondering what R/C base was used, will say the work to shorten the chassis seems a little much work over finding a already needed sized vehicle and just extending the axel length. Granted if traxxas had a contract for marketing etc then you have to stick to that brand. As for cosplay use being accurate is great but also many like to make it there own so something similar isn't a bad idea ethier and not out of the realm of the Ghostbusters world besides most people won't go on that's the wrong chassis unless it really stood out different. As for the motor was curious about it because of the actions it took in film vs what the fastest motor (traxxas has the 100mph car motor one of if not the fastest made in the industry) could actually do. Obviously suspend belief due to cutting of shots closeups etc but in reality the fastest motor is good for mostly doing wide oval turns and even then you can flip at that speed if you turn too sharply-its like trying to turn a drag car. That said with this being more stadium truck with oversized tires the weight will slow down the max speed unlike the car it was designed for maybe making it slightly easier to turn. The other motor you mentioned seems more probably the one used but using the fastest motor might be the way when filming with a real moving car. I always assumed they took a smaller scale RC that's under 1/10 scale and threw tires from a scale up or two and used the props weight as the downforce to carry it through a turn/handling and with the super wide tires it should hold it's turning. on a last note if the super accurate of the trap isn't required yes sport trap is a start but even better is the one Walmart had that was the same trap but instead of a button pressed at the handle it had a foot pedal. You can take the wiring for that pedal and change it to go to a micro controller on a 3rd or 4th channel and it will do the same functionality.

If budget is not a factor, almost every part can be replaced with metal. Most RC drivers will tell you to keep the lower control arms as plastic. This is an easy part to replace and you need SOME flex point, or everything gets bent and there goes the budget. The wheels are likely the ones used on the Traxxas X-Maxx. The monster size wheels often require, and come with an adapter that bolts into the wheel center to connect to whatever hub you run, whether 17mm hex or screw post hub. A common issue will be that the wheels are too close to the body to give good turn radius. Extended arms are available. The decision is screen Replication vs. usability. The guy at the Knight Rider Historical Channel is having a similar problem with the mobile unit he got. How does one fit the office and garage into a space 8' wide?
@CworthDynamics2 жыл бұрын
Totally! The tires are 3rd party (parts list above) - they indeed used the extenders as most of the movie shots were the practical RC RTV!

The only caveat I would say about buying the Stampede VXL is that the VXL motor would probably cope with the larger tyres a lot better than the standard Stampede. As long as you have the right spur/pinion set up
@ronwhitmill70682 жыл бұрын
The starting torque alone (from a standstill) would be reason enough to uprate the motor, but what about uprating battery as well? Sure, spur/pinion can mitigate to an extent, but that translates to what you want. Do you want ease of starting from a stop to protect the motor or do you want top speed?. A delicate balancing act to know what best suits. The other upgrade should be a higher torque steering servo to handle the large wheels and overcoming the centrifugal forces imparted by them at speed. (Spin a bicycle wheel whilst holding each end of the spindle, then try turning it to get an example of the centrifugal forces involved).
@666cemetaryslut2 жыл бұрын
It's basically a decoration that also happens to drive. It's not an RC that will get used like an RC car.
@ronwhitmill70682 жыл бұрын
Irrespective, Spur/Pinion gearing has to be correct to the situation so that the motor does not get burnt out. Same with steering servo.

Ive a great suggestion. Add an fpv camera and diguise it as one of the lights or greeblys. I think a swift fpv kit would work and be fitted to the rc car controller (the one inside the car not the handheld controller. Pair this with an fpv headset disguised as a pair of ecto goggles. You would be able to drive and see where you are going and still be able to look cool doing it.

A smaller 2s lipo battery will give you more space underneath the doors. There are powerful batteries out there. Ovonic, or tattu are just a couple recommendations. The hub on the wheels on the movie version look like just a couple of hex nuts that hole them in. Try looking at the wheels of a Arrma Mojave for reference

So it looks like the way the movie rtv's wheels/hubs work is more like what you would see on an 1/8th scale buggy/truggy. Rather than a screw you have some threads that peek thru the hole in the wheel and a nut that holds it all together. Something like this part number from Hot Racing would likely work HRAWH17HT01. Edit: I would also use different 17mm wheel nuts that are a better color (black? Kinda hard to tell) and a simpler hex shape. Like Arrma part ARA310449

Awesome but should have added the stickers on the front: I can't add links but search Gogglle for: "MUON TRAP: OPERATING MANUAL (ADF, TR, TR G, OFF, NRADS, ETC.)" Afterlife played a bit too loose with the canon details (the wand bargraph didn't even work when Phoebe turned it on) Stephen Dane's original work in 1983 is the go to "manual" for how these things were made to work: Again I can't add links but Gogglle: ghostbusters reference library "Ghostbusters Prop concepts and inspiration" Stephen Dane is the person who designed the wand and the trap in 1983, his manual is listed in his concept drawings on the above site.

@@CworthDynamics Sure. It's inconsistent in the movies. They were on the screen used GB1 Planet Hollywood trap (which is where we learned what they were). I think it was an oversight on the part of the director to not include them in all scenes. All the prop switches (especially the wand) are meticulously labelled. To have that many unlabelled rotary switches so close together on the front of the trap doesn't really add up. We will see what Firehouse brings! But awesome replica man it looks out of this world.
