idk if you plan to revisit this project, but i think less infill and an extra perimeters will keep the strength while making it light. you can make some small test pieces to find the best infill to perimeter ratio, also useful for other mega disc projects!
@LetsGoDiscGolf
@LetsGoDiscGolf 2 күн бұрын
@@bigboy3306 Thank you, and yes that’s what I did for this project. was more walls with less infill. only thing that truly started to break or come apart at all was at the connection points where each piece was super glued together

Great Work! You should try printing it again with zero infill and a single wall, then fill in the the space with spray foam to make it light enough to throw
@LetsGoDiscGolf
@LetsGoDiscGolf Ай бұрын
@@jonathanyoung8633 I love that idea, I haven’t messed with a zero infill build before so idk how that would work without having supports/infill on the needed spots on the print but overall a cool concept to consider. My plan to go bigger was definitely with foam, but spray foam could be a nice way to go about it as well! Thanks for the response!

Try same size, but normal rim. Better grip and lighter 👌
@LetsGoDiscGolf
@LetsGoDiscGolf 29 күн бұрын
@@williamjohansen2187 If a disc has a smaller rim that it’s “normal” size it won’t push the same amount of air down that it needs to so it will fly very understable and won’t get any lift. Obviously this didn’t get any lift anyways since it was so heavy 😂 but the point of this project was to keep everything the same and just increase overall scale

i wanna see a big one thats actually light enough to fly. you need to get it down to about 3lbs to get it to really fly at all though it will fly very fast and probably still be hard to throw. to get it to fly at around the speed of the regular nuke it would need to be closer to 1.5lbs hmmm maybe ill take a shot at it, fun video

@@geskma6368 If you do that it will be very understable because the amount of air that the disc profile pushes down compared to its overall size will be way off. also, i just wanted to keep everything the exact size and make it bigger, can mess round with other projects like that in the future though

@ so the discs you sent to Simon were PLA as well? If so, what kind of infill are you using to get the desired weight?
@LetsGoDiscGolf
@LetsGoDiscGolf 5 күн бұрын
@ Yes all PLA, depends on the disc size and shape, but usually around 50% infill. shoot for around 175grams. some of those were painted as well those to improve the quality and overall finish so that may have helped the weight some as well

I’ve made a Venom at 1.5X and a Nuke at 2X so far and both were more understable than the original disc when scaled up. I think this one is just because the weight is finally too much. if it was easier to throw and get a little more speed and spin on it, I think the stability would be totally fine.
