In what solution are you guys dipping the billets in?Wd40 or something else. Great work👍

Yes, WD40. It's a hydro carbon. So when it burns up in the forge, it removes any oxygen from between the layers and coats it in a layer of pure carbon which prevents the steel from oxidizing before the forge weld takes place. Thanks for the comment!!!

i just found your channel you guys have all the cool toys i need to get me a rolling mill i built my own press that was amazing billet of twist pattern was insane just subbed and liked i was gonna make some squaring dies for my press did you guys use 1.5" x 1/4" angle iron for your dies? thanks very much Mark 😀👍

The Squaring dies on the Waylon press is 2"x1/4" reinforced. But the new squaring dies for the forging centers are milled from 3" thick blocks of steel. Much more durable

Curious about your twisting machine, we are building one with Milwaukee hole hawgs and keep snapping the screws that hold the chuck n place, do you have a suggestions for a motor gear box combination?

Hi dear I just wanted to ask you if it is possible to make a Damascus knife from 52100 &80CRV2 ??????? Have you tried this before????? Or making Damascus from CK60 & 80CRV2 ????? Are there any technical problems with those materials ??????

Two problems: First, the 52100 is not going to want to stick to itself or the 80CrV2 and vice-versa. Chrome oxides are notorious for causing welding problems. Not saying they can't weld together under good circumstances, but its not a great recipe. Second, both steels will etch dark and give you a poor appearance on the face of the blade. 80crv2 or 1084 mixed with 15n20 is a much better blend.

The combo forging center was made by a company in UT. It's unfortunately been discontinued and no longer produced.

The rollers are hydraulic powered off the same hydraulic pack that runs the press on the other side.
