Points i need to mention 1. Tapsilog is not an expensive breakfast. Maybe because u guys tried it in a hotel that will sky rocketed the price. However or usually tapsilog is very cheap ranging 45 - 100php 2. The tapioca in the taho is not made of taro. It is made up of starch coming from cassava or potato sumtimes rice. 3. The pandesal here in the phillippines is usually paired with mantikilya or kesong puti. Since its hard to find kesong puti in manila we pair it with liver spread "reno". 4. There are lot of options like kakanin, champorado, lugaw and even canned sardines with garlic rice. But for me my breakfast or either an average pinoy breakfast is tuyo (dried fish) and garlic rice. Somtimes with salted egg and tomatoes.

In my opinion tapsilog is not cheap nor expensive, the cheapest tapsilog that i know is about 50-70 pesos and 50-70 pesos is considered not cheap if your talking about some of the filipino making about 200-500 per day. The Pandesal + 3in1 for breakfast in my Opinion is cheap. It will totally depend on the people on how they perceived cheapness and expensiveness
@rizzacordova11686 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, i think his friend is not really that well acquainted with filipino foods. Otherwise he wouldn't have said that tapsilog is for special occasions since it's expensive. Plus he gave several misinformation as well. shouldn't have acted as a know it all.taho pearls are also made from tapioca not taro

Great video. You're right on the money this time Mike. Those are truly Filipino breakfasts. Tapsilog is a heavy breakfast meal. It is an upgraded Filipino breakfast, the original is garlic rice, fried egg or salted egg, tuyo (dried fish) and tomatoes. Taho is breakfast-on-the-go for busy yuppies. And the poor man's breakfast, 3 in 1 coffee and hot pandesal. Trivia for you Mike, the 3 in 1 coffee that you know is actually 4 in 1 for most Filipinos. The first 3 are the contents of the package (coffee, creamer and sugar) and the 4th thing is the sachet or the package. Fold it 3 to 4 times, it can be used as the 'stirrer". Filipinos do this. BTW Nelly ate that pandesal in a very Filipino way, with her one leg on top of the chair. Great, great video.

Heard that the taho that’s being peddled on the strrets like that has white cement in it, as it serves as a coagulant, to make it thick. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but we stopped ordering it in whole sets (for our feeding programs for the poor and celebrations of our parish priests’ sacerdotal anniversaries). Sorry, man. But they said chilled taho is safe and a good alternative. It is available in some restaurants...

I’m sure others have commented about these but let me have my two cents’ worth: 1) technically, Atchara is not eaten as a palate cleanser as much as it is a side dish that cuts the greasiness of oily or fried food. 2) beef tapa and tocino aren’t expensive unless of course you get them from hotels and upscale restaurants. Most working people just don’t eat them everyday because of hassle of cooking and doing the dishes in the morning. 3) those balls in taho aren’t taro (gabi). Those are sago pearls... similar but not the same as tapioca pearls. 4) pan de sal and kape are not traditional Filipino breakfasts as much as they are similar to donuts and coffee in the States. They’re the go-to breakfast for people who can’t/don’t cook.

There's Longsilog with Longganiza or garlic sausage.
