I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzbin.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

Hey mate, chairsaw 101. Cut compression before tension. Think about what's supporting the log. In your case the log is supported at both ends so the top is under compression and the bottom under tension. Where a branch on a standing tree the top would be tension and the bottom would be under compression and with compression just like your teenage girl friends know when to pull out. Good luck.
@justus3190
@justus3190 2 жыл бұрын
Great saw, thanks for the review, Might suggest you review when you should undercut first and when you should over cut first- In your video, you are doing a bridging cut, hence the compression is on the top of the log, cut that first, then cut from underneath 2nd. Then you will not pinch you bar. If it is a swinging cut (only supported one end) do the opposite, hope that helps

I carry a Makita DUC254 (10 inch) in the back of my ute. Great saw for clearing tracks plus firewood. No petrol to carry, just lightweight 18v batteries and my 400w inverter charges them off a solar-fed 12v battery.

Nice little saw, i was impressed by how well it handles large logs. The guy using the saw could have used better cutting techniques, tightened the chain more and sharpened it but overall it was a difficult tree to cut while under load. Im considering buying one of these for small camp trips

I can see the plus sides of it, if you have solar and batteries then it's always going to work, not like a petrol chainsaw which may not like starting for a million reasons, and for which you'd really need to bring all the safety gear along too. But it's a bit niche, a petrol version would allow you to do a bit of logging too. Overall, a handy thing to have in the back of your trunk. Thanks for the demo.
@Cancun771
@Cancun771 Жыл бұрын
No petrol smell in the car and no exhaust smell when working. That alone is already _so_ worth it, not to mention the lack of noise. Also you don't need solar panels, you just need a car charger, which Makita sells for something like 80, 90 Euros (DC18SE). The top handle version is a bit shorter but I don't think it really saves a lot of space in the car since it is bulkier. I have the DUC353, one of the regular handle versions and it is very easy to pack even in a much smaller car because the body is thinner. In a pinch, you can always remove the bar for stowage. For logging, you can fit a 40cm bar (16 inches) and possibly more, though I am not sure it is worthwhile since the overload breaker cuts in fairly early already with the shorter bars and even when just sawing boards.

You don't always want to cut the underside first. I'm by no means a professional chainsaw operator, but i have learned from some videos i've watched and the little cutting i have done myself that generally you need to start cutting the side where it's going to compress and then make the opposite cut a bit offset if the tree is somewhat big, like in your case. Just realised the video is over a year old :)

When there is tension in the wood, like here, the prescribed technique is to start the cut at the "compressed" side of the tree, which is on top in most of these cuts since it is touching the ground on both ends. Even if it is only an inch or two, that makes finishing the cut from the other side much easierer

14" Husqy 36v or dewalt would've done the job just fine! This is an 18v and just like the Ryobi 36v 14" are the weakest in the market. They were developed for small household landscaping. Tested both Ryobi and makita and the blades on both worked for 50-60 cuts and needed sharpning. The plastic single bolt chain adjuster is the worst on both, keeps loosening all the time.

Agreed, it might be your only option to get home sometimes Especially the wind we have had lately, there was multiple trees down last night, thankfully already cleared when i arrived. Ive been using a really old 240V Elec Makita chainsaw for 25 years now It is just as capable as any saw, you can climb with it, its light, and you don't have to try and start it once 30ft up a tree> Best of all, it is quite, very handy in a populated town with nosey neighbours

Just another another thing to add to my last comment since the saw was probably new it was equipped most likely with as safety chain which cases the saw to bounce and is also the type of chain that is quite slow, just what how your hand keeps coming in line with the bar of the saw, if the saw contacts the upper quadrant of the bar kickback can occur and a lot of operators have hurt and also killed by this happening.I hope this was of help to you. :)

hhcosminnet Using a Chainsaw: Sir the pressure is in the middle or sides, Old ky boy! Start on bottom or you can saw a chip at the top, then go to the underside, also all the pressure is on the limbs on the ground! If you start on the top you can only go about an inch very easy to get your chain hung or compressed between the cut! Just a thought. If you start on top put a chip in the cut, before going to bottom. I have been watch the you Tube Saw boys most of the week.

I have limited chainsaw experience. Just have used for firewood gathering and dealing with shit like in the video. Things like in the video can surprise you by twisting in a way you don't expect. I think I would have started at the trunk, keeping my body on the root side of the cut. Then work down the tree towards the top. But what do I know!? ... Instead of carrying a chainsaw in my 4x4 I carry a 12gauge with a bunch of birdshot. Makes an amazing "saw" and you can be a bit more clear of the danger... but eye protection is a must! 😄

@Sami The key word is USED TO BE. I had two Craftsman lathes and the motors were junk on both of them. I took one apart that froze up when the armature got stuck in the field windings and It had blue ink on it where it was out of round from the factory. I like Makita tools!...............Cheers, Jim

Keeping your batteries cool is the best way to let them last. Heat will stimulate aging on Lithium Ions.

gabsmit Depends what you mean by cool. And what you mean by heat. And what HE meant when he said warm.

I'm sure in the next year eletric motor will become even more powerful with battery even more efficient that the gasoline tools will disappear, just like cars. We are still used to think that the gasoline motor is the only solution if you need power, but the last eletric motors and batterys show us that this is changing. Even in the car industry, the new eletric cars are more and more bettere than the eletric cars from 20 years ago. That's the future, we'll stop using gasoline not for the enviroment, but to get better performance

sometimes VOLTS will do, but most of the times HorsePower is a better choise when you need a fire in the evening!
