Thank you, John. This was very helpful. I also read your replies to some of the other comments here which were also very helpful. Great use of KZbin for a functional, well put together tutorial in what I anticipate will be one of the more well used tools in my shop.

Hi, Good short video and introduction to the product. Just one, but I think important point to make. In the video you say that the supplied disc is a 'Cutting' disc for metal. As far as I am aware the actual disc shown is a 'Grinding' disc for metal. This is an import distinction as using a Grinding disc for cutting and using a cutting disc for grinding is potentially very dangerous. In the interests of safety I just thought I would raise the issue.

Hello John. I want to use a steel cutting disc (which was sold with the unit) but it won't secure - not as thick or shaped as the grinding disc. The instruction manual is useless. Thanks in advance. Catherine

The makita 4 inch is my favorite of all time and I have had about 10 different grinders. The smaller body feels great in your hand and they are tough and reliable. Replace the brushes and switch and theyll keep going.

Only design fault is the on-off switch. Dust can accumulate behind it after a while making the unit difficult sometimes to switch and stay on.

@JohnCarverUK
@JohnCarverUK 3 жыл бұрын
Just checking, are you attempting to turn the nut anti-clockwise? You may need to tap the spanner sharply with a hammer or similar. You can clamp the used disc in a vice, but don't reuse it afterwards.

Not a bad effort John but your vid' does have one major flaw. When inserting the cutting disc you say: "make sure you get it on the right way" - or words to that effect. However, you don't explain what the 'right way' is! If I was installing the disc supplied by Makita, I'd just follow what you do, but that won't work as I'm fitting a diamond blade instead (bought seperately). So, explaning which way is 'the right way' to instal discs/blades is, IMO, a major component of a setting up vid' of this kind.

@@JohnCarverUK Hi John, glad you've taken my comment in the spirit in which it was intended! In all other respects, it was a well put together and well executed short vid'. (Short is good btw, very good.) You could do a follow up vid' in which you address the different types of discs/blades availaible (along with their respective uses), with particular focus on which way round each one needs to be fitted. If you do, be sure to address which way around the locking nut goes on as well, as I copied you in this vid' which, needless to say, is the wrong way around for a diamond blade! ;-)
