Thanks for the review. I'm a big makita fan have used the gold bits for a while, and they crush the other box store brands

All 3 brands are definitely worth the money. The ImpactX's are my favorite because they're the only non-torsion one. Plus if you buy the full 50 piece set, there's multiple of each bit in multiple lengths and storage. Definitely a great buy for $30 www.amazon.com/Makita-98348-Impactx-Driver-Bit/dp/B072J5RXDT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504841411&sr=8-1&keywords=makita+impactx

I agree. Ive used them all and break the gold bits far less often. actually I've only broken one and dozens of the milwaukee and DeWalt bits. the DeWalt bits torque out of the screw too easy. the milwaukee does a better job but not much. the gold makita bits fit so much better and torque out far less than the others. I do however like the milwaukee #3 philips better. I have not tried any of the makita 3" extensions. but I have 4 milwaukee extensions. after a while they loose their ability to hold the bit because they're getting beat up in the socket to hold the bits. I expect them to wear out and have held up good enough. but I'll be buying the makita extensions next to try. I drive in way more screws than the average guy. where I work we build a lot of wood products make from pine, mahogany, poplar and maple. we use 2"-5" #14 screws and run in 300-500 screws per week. some days I run in that much in 1 day and my makita brushed impact driver has never stopped working since 2013.

The reason the Makita plastic case is a "brighter" blue is for the greater contrast between the black bits against the bright blue background where the Makita drill/impact driver tools are darker blue with less contrast making it difficult to determine the type of drill bit in the case..

I know this video is many many years old but wanted to say, Ive been using Makita Gold as my go to bits for many many years And also have several of the Dewalt flextorq bit sets. And i find the makitas just tend to explode. I must of gone through a good 200-300 PH2 bits And out of all of them. 95% of them just broke when driving a screw. Very rare i replaced the bit due to wear. This is in stark contrast to the dewalt which all of them got replaced due to wear and none actually just flat out broke. I have used way less of the dewalt PH2 ones than the Makita (prob about 50ish) I would say they lasted about the same amount of time. But its just interesting how different the failure modes are. I have also never used the Makita impact-x bits. However just recently decided to try the new Makita impact XPS bits. And so far they have blown me away. I used to average about a week out of either the makita gold or dewalt flextorq in my line of work (cabinet installation) But so far i am still on my first one of the new XPS bits after 2 and half weeks. And it honestly has very little wear on it. Kind of looking forward to seeing how these ones fail.

You're using wrong bits for these screws. It should be PZ2 not PH2.

Much appreciated review. I bought some makita tools and I dont want to be a one brand guy, but it just seems I cant go wrong getting the makita brand. Even if they arent the "bestest" you will always get an exceptional product. Love em.

I know this video is a couple years old, but I'll say Milwaukee and dewalt have new 50x the life bits now that are definitely good bits also the new Makita black impact bits are durable and machined really good, I have and use all 3 brands daily driving 1000s of screws. They now sell all of them at Home Depot. 👌

Can you do a comparison between the Makita impact x and the milwaukee shockwave 50 piece set? Also could you address the fitment into different fastener heads like Phillips, torqs, square head? Would like to see how much wobble or play is in them comparatively. Thanks, great video

Great review as usual. Your intrest and admiration of Makita has sealed the deal for me on getting Makita. But I have a question. I am getting either a set of 38 Makita Gold, A set of 50 ImpactX, or a set of 75 Pc. Makita metric drill and screw to go with my sub compact 18v Makita combo set of drill and impact driver that I am getting. Which Makita driver set do you suggest? If i get the Gold or the ImpactX, what drill bits would complement your choice? Thanks for the advice!
@korbano
@korbano 5 жыл бұрын
It depends what you’re looking for. The Makita Gold is the toughest but more expensive for how many you get. I like the ImpactX because they’re fairly durable and come with a lot of pieces for the price. I don’t really beat on my bits too much so the ImpactX is plenty durable for me. As for drill bits, I recommend the Milwaukee shockwave titanium drill bits. They have a 1/4” hex shank so you can use them in a drill or an impact driver.

@@korbano thank you. My needs are mostly around the house and woodworking projects. I saw how precise the gold were on your review and thought they might be a bit more precise for detailed work such as small and intricately hinged boxes. Thanks for the advice about the drill bits too

Budget Tool Reviews, having worked in the trades, electrical and general construction, I’ve used most reputable brands impact bits and tried some European made ones as well. Wiha terminators torx bits are extremely durable. I’ve snapped many torx bits. I’ve also had great success with their square drive bits. You use square drive a lot in electrical. The Makita impactX represents an excellent value for the DIY or the guy who appreciates a CNC fit and bits bulk for cheap. The Makita gold isn’t leaps and bounds better (unfortunately). The flextorq line has great fit but is softer. The newest generation shockwaves seem to hold up well. I drive about ~450 screws with an impactX bit before i change it out. I get about ~1250 out of the terminators.

you want to really test those bits run them into a piece of maple, poplar or mahogany.
@MintStiles
@MintStiles 6 жыл бұрын
Unless this is an extreme torture test, you shouldn’t be impacting screws into what seems like solid oak. Even the cheapest drill bits will predrill and countersink with ease. Tools and bits are not meant to perform out of their specifications, perhaps that was why even a functional/construction screw snapped. While bits wear out, they shouldn’t do that after a few screws. If you don’t abuse your tools/bits and use correct methods, any prosumer level tools can be lifetime. I would reckon it’d be worthwhile to see a video of these bits used correctly.

Hi I have seen many reviews on these impact bits including the manufacturer seler videos, I myself have used most of these bits but the Makita gold is the best Imagen you only drove 4 screw and bits were already wearing where would these bits be after 50 screws like bldg. A bookcase IN GARBAGE (SO GO M GOLD).

The new makita black impact bits are far better than impact gold ones. 👌 I have both types and the gold ones suck in my opinion and experienced. I hardly use the impact gold in my 18-20 volt impact drivers anymore because after 25 - 3 inch or longer screws they strip out and are useless. 👌🤷‍♂
