Makita MAC700 Air Compressor Review After 10+ years of ownership

on the second oil change, after 5 years, the oil is full of what seems like aluminum powder with some sparkly magnetic steel bits mixed in. still works, but there's a lot of blow-by escaping through the vent in the oil cap, and its days are probably numbered. my guess is old oil + cold weather = oil starvation. change your oil more often than I did, everybody.

Great review and great compressor. i have one used in real construction environment for years, and yes it is still alive. Mine developed leaks over the years in the pressure regulator valve and what is strange at the head gasket, mine is leaking but still in my daily use and it is very capable for most of the described stuff, i also using mine for rustproofing my cars it is doing job ok. i recommend this one, great product. And if you need more air, you can stack it with external air pig and you can technically by pass most of his limitations.

Great Compressor Had mine over 12 years. Only complaint is that due to it being skinny, you must tie it up to the side of the truck bed every time you put it in the truck otherwise it falls over in the first turn.

Agreed. I originally carried this compressor in a compact car and set it on the floor in front of the back seat. I then slid the front seat back until the compressor was held in place between the front and back seats. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I just bought this based on the video but probably should've asked first: Can I use this to spray a bit of drywall texture through a hopper? The hopper says it needs at least 2.4 CFM. I only do patches in drywall, usually nothing bigger than 3 x 3 feet. Thank you

Very nice review. You sold me and just got mine! LOVE the sound vs terrifying old PC pancake. Night and day difference! Drain valve is totally fine. Super easy to access and easy to lean over for the seconds to empty. You were really grasping at straws for that negative. :)

How about some actual data. Most automotive style,paint guns run between 8-12 CFM. I’ve piggybacked 2 compressors to get away with spraying interlux 2-part Perfection on a 20 foot boat. Note: this paint like Awlgrip has to be sprayed at one go because whatever flow out you get is the gloss you get in a set time

An excellent review. I also have this compressor. I use it for maintaining car tire air pressure and other air-blowing needs. What hose fittings, tire inflation tool and general gun-style air blowing tool do you recommend? What brand of swivel do you recommend? Is there a particular air hose you suggest? Well, most of air fittings at this time are Milton type M or something compatible with that system. I’ve tried using larger quick release fittings and found them to be impractical for my purposes. As for blow guns, get a safety blow gun. The blow guns with a long narrow tube can be very useful under some circumstances, but they can also be really dangerous and in rare cases even deadly if used carelessly. I like tire inflation tools with a built-in gauge. They are much more convenient than switching between a tire chuck and a pressure gauge. I’ve had a couple of Dynabrade brand swivel for years and haven’t had any problems. But those swivels also aren’t subject to genuinely heavy use either. Since I bought a polyurethane air hose, it’s the only hose I’ve used. They may not be the best choice of a spring loaded hose reel however. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Someone did accidentally break off the drain valve on our compressor. But the other end of the valve is also threaded, so I simply extracted the broken part and screwed the valve in the other way (plus teflon tape).

Nice job! A resourceful solution to an irritating problem. I had not paid much attention to the ‘auxiliary’ threads on the drain valve until I read your comment. was wondering if this compressor will do ok with an air nozzle to blow stuff off , like blowing saw dust off saws and work areas? how about airing up truck tires? I noticed the newest makita compressors are even quieter and lighter weight than this one but with less cfm output

Hey, no problem! My opinion is than an air compressor is ‘portable’ if a single person can lift the compressor. If a compressor is either too bulky or too heavy to be schlepped around by one person, it’s not really portable. Being *easily* portable is another story. The MAC700 is easily portable even if the compressor is being hand carried. Depending on how strong you are and what kind of vehicle you drive, the MAC2400 may be easily portable as well. If easy portability isn’t a priority for you, a bigger compressor may be the best option. Of course you are the only person who can make the decision. 🤔 Although, I doubt you can go wrong with either compressor. However, they often ship tools in the manufacturer’s box. This makes the contents of the box very obvious to porch pirates, which may or may not be of concern to you. This also means you’ll want to inspect the box and the contents for any damage just to make sure your purchase is OK. If you do have any issues, getting an actual human on the phone isn’t too difficult. Try that with Amazon. They have a few retail stores as well. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting.

If a car tire is dead flat this compressor will cycle on before the tire is fully inflated. That said, the MAC700 keeps up fairly well for a small compressor. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and asking a question.
