This is a basic method for calibrating the 45 degree position on your Makita Mitersaw. The detent plate can slightly pivot in the screw holes and lose accuracy.

*Remember that this saw needs to have adjustments made to make 0 or 90 cuts accurately **MyBest.Tools** I had to use a right angle on the deck and blade and then adjust the bolt to get the correct reading. Once this is done, it works great.*

Great explanation!!! It is a pain in the neck to get it dialed in, but it is worth doing. I was having a brain fart trying to do this and had it all messed up. Thanks for the help the other day pulling my head out of my rear!!

Absolutely great video! I just picked up one of these saws. I have a Kaypex and live it, but chasing power can get troublesome sometimes. Love your videos and explanations here and on Instagram. Looking forward to one of your detent plates!

Thanks for the video! My saw has never been right, even out of the box. I'm going to check my detent plate too since there's always been play at the 45's, again out of the box.

It’s difficult these days to dial in any saw, I’ve yet to find one that’s good out of the box

Great stuff. My problem was I had my 90 mitre detent nuts on, then I would tilt the head left or right to a bevel lean, tighten the bevel knob, and then the 90 mitre would be thrown out 2-3mm out of square. Maybe my bevel tightening system was worn out. Anyway I couldn't take any more after a year of messing so sold it and moved on to DeWalt.
@SteneWoodwork4 жыл бұрын
Was it consistently out of square? sometimes those thin kerf blades can deflect cutting on a bevel
@adamandlorraine4 жыл бұрын
@@SteneWoodwork yes out of whack repeatedly when doing bevels. I could cheat it by pushing the mitre round to 1 degree or so but that wasn't very good practice. I had the ls1019l corded so standard kerf. Might have been the rails issue but I was chasing my tail with it. The DeWalt isn't as nice but I can depend on it working properly.
@untoldhistory28002 жыл бұрын
That’s the issue I’m having with my DLS110. Took it to have it calibrated by professionals and still is cutting 2-3mm out of square on the 90o mitre if I bevel the saw. Just finished a job and it was very annoying to add 1o or 1.5o in order to cut square on 45o bevel 😩

My blade is far right while straight or bevel left.Bevel right the blade rubs the right blue kerf board.Left kerf board is moved all the way to center.Right side all way to right. Tightening bevel nob pushes saw to the right.Any ideas? Same saw in vid,XSL06.

Hi Stene woodwork, I just ordered this saw and looking for any ideas for crown stops. The ones Makita sells don't look promising. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Thanks for all the videos on this saw. 👍🏻 I just ordered one. Your videos and opinion on it helped greatly. I'll order one of your plates if mine wears out too fast. I see the DLS110Z is discontinued. The model I ordered is the DLS112Z. They look identical. Do you know anything about the differences?
@SteneWoodwork4 жыл бұрын
I think the main difference is one has the laser and one doesn’t. Mine doesn’t

Great video! But I have a different question about this mitersaw. I'm the owner of corded version (LS1019L) and I noticed that it runs with intermitent vibrations - espetially in hard wood like oak, but in MDF and thin soft wood as well. I've changed the blade to a brand new Pilana 60T, but the result is the same. I can't detect any loose on bearings or the shaft. The vibrations appear when the blade touches the material, but the cut is quite clear and smooth. Simply it is disturbing and in my oppinion should not work in that way in such a professional saw. Any advice what could be the problem? Your saw seems to work nice and smooth, but I also have heard simmilar complaints about Kapex.
@SteneWoodwork2 жыл бұрын
Some saws have a high torque mode that helps the saw work through the cut, and it seems like it’s vibrating. This is most likely normal operation.
@clearlyconfused9194 Жыл бұрын
Hey, Long shot, but I just got the same saw and experience the same thing, but also on startup it sounds rough and has the same vibration for a second. It cuts he easy though. Did you find a solution?

How much is the stainless steel detent plate shipped to the UK?
@chevyimp58574 жыл бұрын
Best video... Why did you switch from kapex?... I'm guessing the ease of coreless on site..
@SteneWoodwork4 жыл бұрын
No at the time Festool hasn’t updated their motor in the Kapex, which was designed for 220 European power, but adjusted to run on North American 110v power. The motor was starved of power and would burn up within 3-4 years

Try as I may, I've repeated all your steps, which are very helpful. However, even with the same mikita miter saw I cannot get both 45 degrees. Using the 5-cut method with pieces from 2.5 to 5 inches wide and 1/2 to 3/4" tbick, I can adjust the detente for right-side 45 degree miters to match, but not the left side. If I tune out the the left toes out, I'll lose what I gained on the opposite side. Quite after getting right side back. Now, left toes are out again. Solution??

Are your back fences in line?

@@SteneWoodwork I think so. It's one piece. Removed, inspected and replaced before starting alignment. The holes are over sized so some adjustment forward. All bevel angles measure and cut at 90 and 45. Miters the last step. Locked at 90 when tweaking detent. Thanks.

Isn't it possible, once you've aligned the detent plate, to make some markings with a permanent marker (or light scratch in the metal if warranty has expired) so that you can just put it back where you've set it in case the saw gets bumped? I've ordered the corded version today, the LS1019L :)
