Thank you so very much for the LS1040 review. I am having to replace a 22 year old Delta chop saw that I have loved for it's simplicity. This is the only (quality) model that I can find, that is truly straight-forward. I will definitely be purchasing now.

I’ve got the Makita LS0714 which is similar but a bit smaller I think with a 190mm blade. I bought it in 2012 (ten years ago) and it’s still going strong. I chose it because of its portability and despite it being sold as a trim saw I’ve used it constantly on framing jobs, on fence posts and rails and all sorts of rough work as well as trim and apart from changing the brushes and blade a few times and giving it a good clean and some oil every now and then it’s never missed a beat. I think you can never go far wrong with Makita kit because everything I ever bought from them definitely gave me my money’s worth several times over.

Still using mine daily on site, great saw. Light weight, reliable...only downside is its limitation for cutting wider stock. But I just go to my Circular saw with a straight edge to do it. Built plenty of homes with it.

Just bought one for $200 Canadian. My first mitre saw and I love it. You can tell it was built with good engineering. I had to decide between this and a Dewalt DW713. The dewalt seemed much more bulky and also cost $320.

Hi Matt. I purchased an LS1040 today and am very happy with it. There is just 1 thing I cant work out. There is a part supplied with the saw called the auxiliary plate. It shows how to install it but I have no idea what its for. Can you help me with that? A couple of others have asked in forums but no explanations have been given. Thanks Mark

Cheers for this video. You pushed me over the edge to buying one this week. I had a crappy Titan one (like a cheap copy of the Makita) which lasted 20 years. Although it was clunky and inaccurate it served most of my needs. Now i really appreciate all the extra facilities this has, plus a very well written manual. I'm v impressed at how easy the brush replacement appears. This tool will see me out!

Good review...I just picked one up, at Home depot....The salesman told me that this Makita Ls1040 Compound Miter Saw (190 cad / 117 pounds) will give Milwaukee Miter saws (698 cad/ 428 pounds) , a good run for their money...So i got it. So far I am loving it...built me 2sets of Saw horses , a 2gabage bin container and now working on some pantry shelves...awesome little makita ....one prob is I can't remove the bolt for removing the 10 " blade to get the rough cut off and fine blade on..hmm. ??

Glad you like the review and of course your new saw. Taking the saw blade off is always tricky the thread is reversed. That is the same for all mitre saws. I am always confused even after 10+ years. There should be a direction arrow ➡ near the bolt. If not try the opposite direction. Hope that is helpful. You can send your project photos to my Facebook group. Crook's the Cabinet Makers. Great review... it can cut 6" if you lift the timber slighty at the end of the cut. Also worth noting that parts are very cheap from Makita - bearings are a few pounds, brushes are £4, plastic Gaurd is about £11 and the safety button is less than a pound! I've given mine a refurb with a new blade, want to try and fit a soft-start modue next!

Nice to meet another fan of the Makita. When I bought this Makita, 12 or 13 years ago, there wasn't a range of saws in this price range at all. Recently I was looking at the price of the Makita and other saws in the same price range. You can buy a saw with far more functions for the same price. Tell you what, I would buy this saw over and over again A friend of mine did buy one of the budget priced saws, guess what, not the best option.

Had one at my previous work. What i hated about it is how incredibly noisy it is, also hard start can literally jerk the workpiece and shift it slightly making the bad cut. I honestly hated this tool and while looking for a sliding mitre saw for myself makita was low on my list. After Watching some reviews i went for ls1219l hiwever and boy what a wonderful saw to use. Much more precise even out od the box, great capacity and Perfect smooth cuts even on a birch plywood. Couldnt be happier

Hi Florin. I had to adjust this saw once, at the time I was transporting this saw on and off the building site. I have to adjust my larger Makita saw more often. However, I use it and transport it almost daily. Sharp blade, all the time. Get some quality blades, and use a professional sharpening service, it's not too expensive. You need a blade with a higher number of teeth I hope that is helpful. Matt

Hi Martin. This model does not have the depth gauge. It is a basic model, great quality, and should last you well. I would buy this for basic cuts, and mitres.

Hi, I am confused between This ine and Total TS42182551. Its of th same cost, but total has more power (1800W) and sliding option, Laser, 5500 rpm etc. I trust Makita but i have used 'Total' products before and it is good as well. Hence confused! Your reply is much appreciated.

I have no idea regarding "total tools". From what I have seen, they look pretty good. Have a think about your budget, after a few years you might want to upgrade anyway.

It is finally broken . I used this tool for 11 years . All this time I changed 4 carbon brushes sets and the rotor big bearing twice . Now the motor creates sparks and the break is not working. The motor creates continuous flames . I presume is the rotor so I ordered a new one .

the field was burned and also the rottor armature developed high resistance so I replaced both. I also replaced the two switches just to be sure . I also replaced the resistance coil that comes from the right brush contact .The replacement parts costed 100EUR. Now it is like new but the operation was difficult . The old field need new wire and the old armature need resoldering.. trying to save the old parts . Sometimes I made arround 300 cuts per hour so the tool was overheated . @@Crooks103

I would use this Makita for small beading around panels, but it's a bit extreme. You could try a small "Nobex" saw I bought a second hand Makita and repaired it. You might be able to pick up a similar bargain. Makita saws are well worth repairing

@@MoranGuyVideos up until recently I had the 10" makita miter saw also. Totally excellent quality. Recently I have been looking out for bargain priced makita gear on fb market place and ebay. I have picked up some great bargains. Most of the Makita gear is absolutely worth repairing, and components are cheap. You can check out the repair videos on my channel. That said, I built a garden office /studio with my new cordless circular saw. If you keep an eye out, there are definitely makita bargains out there, don't let them go to waste

I have never used my saw for cutting aluminium, I can't comment on that part of your question. Specs for cuts: Max cut at 90º 90.5 x 95 mm. Max mitre cut at 45º 48 x 95 mm. Best Matt
