Lockheed Martin and CoAspire unveiled their Mako Multi-Mission Hypersonic Missile during the Sea Air Space 2024. The emerging hypersonic munitions promise to revolutionise modern warfare and shape the outcome of future conflict. The munition, named after the Mako shark, will be used by the US Navy and can be matched with aircraft, including the F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jet. According to Naval News, the munition will have multiple guidance methods, and it will also be able to hold several targets at risk. Watch the video to know more about the Mako Multi-Mission Hypersonic Missile.

The exact speed of the Mako is unknown but it's at least Mach 5 or more. It's definitely a game changing missile considering the platform versatility, affordability, as well as being a convention multi role missile. Imagine an F35 firing one and enemy Sam nets see a hypersonic shot from nowhere

Very nice. Speed vs maneuverability vs range, compromises. In atmosphere going high speed = much less maneuverable. Less maneuverable = much easier to shoot down. Path is predictable. Germany scrapped their super torpedo (300mph+) due to limited range and lack of maneuverability. Speed isn’t everything. Space combat, speed would be insanely important.

Will fit inside F-35A only. Cost 3M. Warhead about the same as 155 mm shell. So, against (mobile) high value soft targets only. Mainly against enemy ground based air defence (radars) and missile launchers. Still good, if accurate and "impossible" to defend against.

An air-breathing missile, with no booster, needs to be launched at supersonic speed. F35 melts after 30 seconds at Mach. 1..
@jamclancy9335
@jamclancy9335 Ай бұрын
Yeah. I think MAKO's value would be that becoz of its speed & maneuverability, it would be hard to intercept. So even only a few of these missiles launch from F-35's would be able to get thru even the most densed enemy integrated air defense & be able to take out the enemy air defense radars. With the enemy radars being eliminated, it would clear the way for non-stealthy fighters & bombers to get close to enemy high value targets & launch subsonic missiles and ordnance like JASSM, JSOW, SDB, JDAM, etc.

And, finally, US TAKES THE LEAD! Mako is certainly an ordinary "glide vehicle missile", but it is extraordinarily small in size despite having an acceptable range (especially if installed on F35s) and, therefore, has better fuel than those of Russia and China (enormous). Furthermore, the US is in the lead when it comes to the real evolution: air-breathing cruise missiles. Lockeed and Ratheon's years of studies are beginning to bear fruit.

Interesting to hear the Lockheed project manager say the weapon system is ready now 🤨. Unclear from this video if this missile has every been tested yet in powered flight 🤔 (no test flight video was supplied here & making a successful hypersonic missile design has proven very difficult in the past)? Curious if a bit of reverse engineering has been utilized from captured / fallen hypersonic munitions used by Russia against Ukraine? Such munitions have proved highly effective & very difficult to shot down.

Nuclear weapons aren’t that easy to make. The problem isn’t the technology but the time and money to operate enrichment facilities. Think of it as launching a rocket. @@manofcultura I think yes in many respects but have you heard of SILEX laser refinement which was 30+ years ago. Enrichment isn't stuck in the centrifuge only reality you're led to believe. In a world where AI over-promises it's still unwise to pretend it will take 50 years and the Manhattan Project to create things. You bypass a great many alternatives that have become available. The technology for Havana Syndrome has existed for 40+ years yet you only start seeing it alleged now. Why? Don't mistake a lack of proliferation for difficulty. The biggest prohibition is always withholding or incomplete knowledge which any number of powers today can provide. Bangladesh is getting a reactor via rubbish. A backwater third world nation. Besides if other nations get the mechanics right Russia/China/North Korea could always open backdoor trading of pre-refined product. The number one move the so called axis could take is dilution of accountability by massive proliferation. If North Korea masters Davy Crockett nuke level portability they can enable this.

Is it true the mako fits inside the f-22? Because I don’t think that is factually correct. The f-22 can’t carry 2000 lb bombs like the f-35 and only has space for 1000 lb bombs. I don’t see the f-22 ever carrying mako if mako makes it to production. The f-22 should remain dedicated to air superiority and the f-35 be responsible for dropping bombs and kicking down the door. We only have 185 or so f-22 and it will be replaced in 10 years with NGAD. Definitely not worth cost or effort.
