All 3 of my aces have been Mako3s. Needless to say, I'm now bagging Mako3s forever. It's straight, and very "neutral" in that, depending on your angle, arm speed, and snap, it holds whatever line you throw it on.

For me, Axiom Hex is the top tier straight flying midrange. I’ve had Mako3, Buzzz, and Texas Ranger all in my bag at various points. All three of them had various things I didn’t like that the Hex corrected (for me at least).

That was my take on it too, the mako3 is my preference haven't found anything as straight or shapeable. Mine is in star plastic and frankly I think champ might have been the right call, star is beating in a little and now it's maybe a -.3 turn not quite -.5 but it will never fight out of a turn now. And I seem to forget that too often. But it is 'point and shoot' so to speak

I have an esp buzzz and a star mako3 in my bag. I throw the buzzz more as it feels more reliable in the wind with its over stability and almost never flips. The mako3 is better for gliding super straight down tunnels etc and doesn't really fade left or right just stays on its line. Also great for anhyzers. I find them to be completely different discs really, both with their uses, and I have a comet which is like a mix of the two and is my favourite for approaches and long throw in putts.

I'm a beginner and started with the champion Mako3 and Roc3 (F2 discs) for a while before getting an ESP Buzz in my first tournament. For me, the virgin Buzz flies very similar to the Roc3 (meaning a similar fade on my basic backhand). The Mako3 finishes straighter for me currently.

Great comparison. I bag both Champ Mako3 and Buzzed (z plastic) and they fly the exactly the same for me. For me, they are different slots, true straight and buzz with a finish. The Mako3 also feels weird in the hand but i got used to it and trust it now.

I love my Mako 3. Laser straight and has lots of glide. I don't have much arm speed as a new player in my 50's but I can fly it about 225 on a flat shot with it never getting above head high.

Hey Glenn, are you a former baseball player? If you are, consider trying forehand. I started at 53, I'm 57 now. I started soon after right knee surgery so I couldn't really plant for a backhand. So the guy who was teaching me asked if I played baseball. I pitched into college so yes. I can throw a forehand 375' fairly easily and I can crank it up to 400'+. I do throwback decent backhand now, about 325', but I'm way more consistent with the forehand. Good Luck!!!

I feel like The buzz SS would be a more fair comparison to a mako 3 not just because of its flight numbers but because of its edge design the rims are very similar between a bus SS and a mako 3 where is a standard buzz is a little bit more stable then people give it credit for also the thing that I like about the buzz is the buzz comes in three flavors you have the buzz OS you have the buzz and of course you have the buzz SS based off that variety there's not such a thing as a mako 3 over stable or I may go three under stable so it makes a lot easier to simplify your bag in terms of what mid-range is you want but of course everybody's different but that's my two cents worth taking or leave it LOL

I have 5 buzzz discs right now. The 2023 Halloween Z Glo was the first and I fell in love with it. Bought a Titanium, Z, Big Z and an Elite Z 20th Anniversary (each in various weights). They are all pretty similar with slight differences, but nothing beats that Z Glo which is always in my bag along with another Buzzz (depending on the course and/or weather conditions), a Champion Mako 3, a DX ROC (old DX plastic) and an Alien (which I’ve come to love when using it more as a long approach/putter disc rather than a mid range). I want to give the Hex a shot. I love the feel of my 2 Insanity discs (1 proton and 1 Neutron) and want to try another Axiom disc. That’ll be next spring. I bought too many discs this year (still have 4 more in transit) and promised myself I’d not get anymore except for this year’s Halloween Buzzz……

Nice video. Your result here is how I feel about the Mind Bender MD1 vs. the Origin. I now have both in my bag, replacing my Roc and Mako3. And in both cases, if I had to choose one to keep, it would be the more glidey, rounder edged, better anhyzer disc... I play wooded courses without a forehand (elbow issues), so hyzer flips and annie turnovers are more important than powering up.

origin is so frickin flippy i love watching that disc fly it swims thru the air haven't seen enough of the mind bender to really get a good bead on the flight no pun intended i almost wish i didn't love rocs as much as i did but there's something really special about the flight of the roc especially when it has a lot of spin there's just something so gentle about its flight pattern dave dunipace is a genius and he gets a lot of credit but he deserves more man was a total pioneer and there's a reason other people keep trying to get their discs to fly like innova molds too bad their QC is literally a dumpster fire but hey i think that's part of the charm of dg is that it's so jank at times and you gotta notice the subtleties

As a guy who has thrown esp buzzz and champ mako3, I can say that Buzzz is more OS but ESP plastic gets beat in fast. Power wise, the more you add the easier it is to flip the mako3 from hyzer to anny. Mako3 does late turnover for me as well so it doesn't finish left at all for me. Buzzz, well, out of the box holds it's line but once it gets few hard tree kicks in, shits gonna be stable. Add too much power to it and it's gonna flip from small hyzer to flat or from straight to anny. Either way both are good discs to use so use whatever you like.
@michaelskeels44422 жыл бұрын

@discgolfamateur21752 жыл бұрын
For a beginner, I'd say Mako3. It is almost like throwing a putter; it will show if you throw badly. AND if you have good technique, it glides forever. Put more pop on hyzer and it will flip up. Also nice for smooth anhyzers, not much power needed and it will hold the angle the whole flight. For a casual round I only bring the Mako3 (Star 175g), even OK to use for putting. Buzzz is much more stable I'd say and for a beginner it is like a fairway or even driver, tons of glide even here. For me, the Buzzz goes almost as far as a distance driver, that's how good it is! And it is much easier to throw than a distance driver. However, my favourite mid is a Roc3 in Star 175g, only due to how much easier it is for my hand to find a comfortable grip/how the disc feels in the hand.

Buzzz is nice because you can cycle them from slightly overstable down to flippy. Z Buzzzes tend to be even more overstable than ESPs. Eventually you can get a Buzzz to be a Mako3, but you can never eventually make a Mako3 a Buzzz (granted, I haven't tried Halo Mako3s).

@@FormerAmericanIdol Now you have. I bag a Halo Mako3 max weight for anything where I need pinpoint accuracy for straight or turnover shots. My go-to approach disc is a very seasoned R-Pro Mako 3 that's only 165. Huge turnover shots that never fade and land flat. Short placement shots where you need to put it right THERE. It's especially good for low-ceiling shots where you need a ton of carry. The lighter weight helps it push farther than a max-weight one. I carry an OG San Marino Roc for hyzer-flip shots, especially flat to turn. My approach game is as good as it gets. I'd cry if you told me I couldn't carry my Makos, especially in the woods.

It is always funny when noobs want the "farthest flying midrange". The whole point of midrange is that it doesn't fly as far. Just find what feels good in hand and has stability for your arm speed.
