Государственное Предприятие "Антонов" пренадлежит Украине, А это значит что данный самолёт также. Но почему-то вы сказали что в СОВЕТСКОЙ РОССИИ Был этот самолёт, а также он был уничтожен той же Россией. State Enterprise "Antonov" belongs to Ukraine, which means that this aircraft also. But for some reason, you said that in SOVIET RUSSIA there was this plane, and it was also destroyed by the same Russia.

Would be the ideal way to service the ISS and ferry crew or supplies with a lower cost. The only non reusable part is the tank, and it could even be made recoverable. A pity how the project didn't quite _took off_.
@FunBotan8 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's the point. Also it would make space factories profitable, which means by now we could have 60 GHz GaAs-based processors and who knows what else.
@MephLeo8 жыл бұрын
FunBotan Russia should revive the old Soviet project and make it fully automated like the Buran (even the carrier plane, who knows)
@davidamaral33978 жыл бұрын
i don't know, i wouldn't use the word ideal... compare it with modern projects: dragon v2 + falcon 9 (spacex) - precision landing (retro propulsion) is better than runway landing - or even the dream chaser (sierra nevada corporation) - which is a spaceplane too. seems pretty hard to make the tank reusable, so not an entirely reusable concept. doesn't seem like the project is worth reviving, it's old technology and there's already good projects like the ones i mentioned under development and test flights. cool concept though, it's smart to launch payloads from higher altitudes as less mass is required to launch the payload, which in turn can be bigger.
@FunBotan8 жыл бұрын
+David Amaral SpaceX setup is even less reuseable due to the second stage, and dream chaser is nothing more than an upper stage for a conventional rocket (copied from old soviet shuttle projects btw).
@MephLeo8 жыл бұрын
David Amaral Ok. _IDEAL_ would be a space elevator. Which isn't feasible, at least not yet. Given the current tech level and the specs a ship needs to attain in order to effectively run routine missions to service the ISS, this project is worthy of attention, still. The tank can be recovered with some minimal effort and the whole thing is the closest one can get, in concept, to a SSTO like Skylon, which is much more worth of attention as a LEO ferry than SpaceX and Dream Chaser, but it depends on the British to make that sexy ass engine to work. While they develop it, I would give this project a careful look. Old technology? Well, the 60's Soviet engines are the best ones already developed, are still in use and even power some American rockets. Being old doesn't necessarily mean being useless. If I had the decision-making power, I would revisit this, if only as research material. But I bet, if revisited, it would end up being much more than that.

@lifeisonlyoptional22157 жыл бұрын
Thekker3b I know I'm insanely late, but you could have a few drilling modules that take ore to the station for refining, and some deployable/recoverable sats. to scan for ore. Just an idea. I've never even been able to land OR crash anything on the moon, even less get large payloads into orbit, so the idea is useless to me. I have (somehow) gotten a small satellite with very small amounts of fuel and a small engine from Kerbin orbit to a ginormous orbit around the sun, using a small rocket to get it into an unstable orbit. At the time didn't know how to use maneuvers, so just did a burn out into space before burning up in the atmosphere and ended up orbiting the sun.

I wonder how this would've compared on a cost-basis to reusable Falcon 9's? The Falcon 9 Full Thrust has a published payload of 22.8 tons and about the same flight cost ($100 mil) for military contracts (only around $60 mil for civilian payloads), as well as being designed for about the same number of re-uses (a bit over 100 when fully operational), so I'm guessing it would be a bit cheaper- but it throws away its upper stage at the moment (whereas the MAKS only threw away a drop tank) so I'm guessing not that much less...

I'm impressed at how little fuel you can use to orbit with a payload. Smart little kit that one. I thought it was canned because while it looked nice on paper it wouldn't actually achieve orbital velocity.
@FunBotan8 жыл бұрын
Nope, the reasons were way less fancy. I also wonder how it would work IRL since my craft is barely enough for Kerbin, but apparently there are serious papers confirming its capability.
@weatheranddarkness8 жыл бұрын
I guess in terms of apparent payload fraction it makes sense. But the 225 wasn't really modified for altitude all that much, more to carry the mass and be stable so even then it's surprising because it wouldn't stage at really stratospheric levels. I'm going to have to read up more on this.
