One of the most emotionally moving, romantic films of all time. It hits the bullseye on all levels. Well acted, photographed, directed, written and the music fits the story so well that it's dangerous to hear the music in the company of people who won't understand why tears are welling up in your eyes. The only other movie I can compare it to is "Random Harvest". There are so many great scenes that you look forward to on repeated viewings.
@jimlips7 жыл бұрын
You worded that perfectly, Louis. I agree completely. I turned this up while viewing, and my wife came in the room and asked me why I had tears streaming down my face. Not many movies have this effect on me. It is the combination of the music and Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve - the perfect combination. When I saw movie in the the theaters, I immediately went out and bought the soundtrack. Cheers to John Barry for the soundtrack, and Richard Matheson for the screenplay.

He says that it is great, he puts that vest on, then then says the jacket fits great cause he has long arms, says the has the secret pocket...when pulls out that penny, sees the date of 1979 ( he thought he put all the coins in a dish in the closet,there were 1912 pennies,he just didn't check them), he realized he was going bye-bye, starts to reach out to her(she has his pocket watch). @@Blondie35 Very interesting. Jane Seymore, whose name is Joyce Penelope Frankenberg, is I would say is the most graceful and beautifully styled actress of all time, is of Jewish and Dutch ancestry, who originated from England. The selection of Elise McCenna in this movie, potrayed by Jane Seymore, is the best possible choice as Jane here portrays a very intelligent as well as skillful woman who brings the movie, Somewhare In Time to real life and emotion to those who watch it and are intrigued by it's deep emotional yet tasteful content.

I agree. My ex husband, Dean & I with friends visited the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. The Grand Hotel is sooo beautiful and a such short wonderful drive with tall trees lined the entrance to the Grand Hotel. It was so magical. Our one afternoon on the Island was exciting for me because, of course I loved the Movie. The Movie Somewhere in Time was released a few years after my high school graduation. For those who haven't visited the Mackinac Island it's worth the time/money. To enter the Grand Hotel there was entrance fee of $6 at the time of our visit in the mid 1990's.The rooms were pretty costly for us since we were had plans to visit Eastern Canada and if you like yummy fudge and keepsakes the small town is quite a tourist trip. But... who cares. Enjoy the amazing view. My sweet girlfriend, Colleen brought me a wooden jewelry box with view of the Island on top. I have still that Jewelry Box to this day almost 30 years later. My present husband, John of nearly 20 years I believe was blessing from God. ❤❤

I remember when she walked into the room 49 yrs ago. My jaw dropped my speech failed me. She didn’t even notice. I had come in from the mountains PNG she from Australia visiting her friends. I was 24yrs she 19yrs. I didn’t know how to date. When she left a week later I still hadn’t told her her impact on me. As she slipped on the plane to leave I slipped her a letter. She replied. We wrote 10mths and by the November she married me. 44yrs later she succumbed and passed. But I will see her and be with her again if I’m good. Neither of us wanted to live in heaven...we both wish to live on this earth when “the meek shall inherit the earth” and “the wicked will be no more” as promised way back at the beginning. Only on this earth “given to the sons of man” can we walk amongst the once wild animals and hand in hand brush through fields of grain to visit her great great grandparents and our own great great grandchildren. We will speak of her “brief sleep” and my keeping on trying my best. I try to care for the magnificent garden she left me. I need no shrine. She is still alive in my mind and heart and the minds of all of her many many friends who loved her sage thoughts and uncondemning nature...her collages on the walls of this house I built for her. She had 13 weeks to prepare and we had our children, grandchildren around us. Each morning twin granddaughters just babies bounced in her arms and being a mother grandmother then husband I understood why she turned to me and said “these have been the happiest 3 months”. I will wait, they are waiting...nothing else of this world compares with the love we have.

I think you are mistaken in believing we must die in order for our spirits to return as when we were young. There are people alive who are old in years but who have remained young in spirit. We have all met at least one whom we remember. I agree that Heaven is here on Earth but don't agree that it exists in another dimension, but instead that it exists in another consciousness. In other words we can have access to Heaven here on Earth if we are prepared to enter another consciousness.

@@helenaville5939 Very true dimension/consciousness many people see and feel that other spirit world, mostly women do even some in my family as well as ex g/f's. They say its because they have a womb that allows this extra sensory perception, many women keep it to themselves out of embarrassment or ridicule but it is a gift a sixth sense a woman's intuition, etc. It is also why many women are frightened easily and are afraid because they simply can see and feel many things that most men cannot.

One of the most romantic films of all time.....❤💏🕰🎬🎼 Somewhere In Time. Christopher Reeves & Jane Seymour, they truly made this film moving with their on screen chemistry. When I think of this film a poem by the British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, published in 1850 comes to mind......I quote " I hold it true, whate'er befall, I feel it when I sorrow most, 'Tis better to have loved and lost. Than never to have loved at all. I truly wish they had made more films like this for the romantics out here!! ❤😊🎻🎬🎼📜✍

I will always be enthralled and captivated by this most unusual and heart-warming film and music score. When it was released in 1980, Christopher Reeve was already cast as Superman and somehow this film went under the radar BUT it was a very big hit in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines and that was according to my Chinese college roommates.

This is the best short synopsis of the film that I have seen. Thank you for bringing it all back to me. I used to have a video copy of it and I watched it over and over and over again after having first seen it in a theater when it was released. I was always so disappointed with the negative critical reviews and thought for a long time that I was the only person in the world who truly appreciated the beauty of this film and its music. It's been so satisfying in recent years to see that so many others have loved this movie as much as I did.

The concept was surprisingly touching and moved me for the years that followed! I recall family members laughing at me because at the time, Music was Disco and people didn’t have a positive outlook to idealism then. Thank You!

This movie, Somewhare In Time, was written by Richard Matheson who also has an Original Star Trek series connection in the episode, The Enemy Within, first season, was also written as well as produced, and released in 1980. A very poignant time and deep change in everybody's lives at that time that as time itself has gone by, has gotten even much more complicated each and every day to this very day, 2020.

The Best Love Story Ever! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it on the big screen when it was released...I have the VHS tape and now the DVD. I bought the book; "Bid Time Return" by Richard Matheson who had also written the screenplay...Loved both. Being from Michigan I was fascinated that the movie was filmed on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel. Such an experience! I was broken hearted when Christopher Reeve had his riding mishap and later passed away. Jane Seymour is so beautiful and outstanding. Thankful that there are so many videos of the soundtrack. I play them in the background as I continue to explore the internet...such a soothing, relaxing time...Rest In Peace Christopher Reeve and Richard Matheson you have left us such a lovely, fascinating memory...

THIS. It's undeniably the most moving and romantic to watch. It's utterly encapsulating on all levels of your soul. I myself seem to be taken FAR back in time ... it's in a castle ... a man is playing the piano with beautiful candelabras sitting on top of it. I FEEL with my entire existence that I've been there before. I can't explain it ~ as I've NEVER had this happen before. Most assuredly no "memories" or dreams of it. If only i could dream of it ... what a dream that would be! Thank you for sharing such a passionate, loving, lucent piece! Blessed be ~

You should consider writing it down in a story and expand on it for how you would like everything (about it) to be. If you do this, there'll be a good chance that you will have wonderful dreams ... But use your favorite pen and put in on paper, and not via a computer. Good luck!❤💥💚💝

@@michaelmelling9333 Sounding out in my head "you're a-gonna" made me LAUGH😁 THANK YOU for that!! Aside medicinal laughter, I harbor an immense place of gratitude for one's attempt with true expression! I have yet to manifest the story; however, I have been actively writing! I will share with you ... my pause comes in singular desperation. My quest summons unveiled mortal words, having yet to be spoken. That present gave violent rise to silence, as her powerful scream beckoned my deafening ears. You see, our human language is but a mockery; sweet, yet barren in verbage. Upon what letters, does one capture the raw essence of a soul's abyss? Within duality by giving way to leaping and falling .... I struggle to discover sounds, syllables, and any lucid rhythm thereof, to merely represent my feelings. Familiar??

So hopefully I can then get going on my own creative writing projects and such. That "a-gonna" thing is something I stole from Bob Dylan's masterpiece, "A Hard Rain Is A-gonna Fall." I enjoy using the cool word every now and then. Take care!🙂💚💛🧡
