what a beautiful approach! and as always, excellent video and audio quality. also, thanks for the nice pictures of the area at the end of the video! granada with the alhambra is just stunning; i've been there too, well.. in 2000. i flew to malaga in a LH A300, and i think it was the last flight were i was allowed to have a jump seat ride during takeoff and landing. and wow, the airport has grown a lot since then!

Many thanks for watching, your good feedback and for sharing your personal experience. The rules in regard to the passenger flights in the cockpit changed after September, 11, 2001. Before, it was very normal to have interested passengers on the jumpseat on almost every flight during takeoff and landing. Especially on flights to scenic airports or favorite vacation destinations. The airport even added another runway. Originally, it was only runway 13/31. Now they also have an additional runway 12/30. In the video, we landed on the new runway 12.

Thanks for sharing your observation about my landings! Most of my landing are somewhere between 1000 feet and 2000 feet from the threshold. Once in a while, a landing may take a little longer to touch down. But - for sure - always in the touchdown zone. On short runways, like Samos or runways with a special slope, like Funchal runway 23, I try to touchdown very early.

Great scenery on the approach. I went on holiday as a child near Estepona in the 1960's, so great to see your photos of the area. Airbus has really hit the sweet spot with the A321, and they just look so good in any livery.

Thanks for watching and for sharing your personal feedback! It is all a matter of training! Sure, we are able to take over manually once the computers or other systems have failed. We are trained on a regular basis for this. It is a little noisy in the cockpit and audio comes from several sources. But you learn to listen to whatever is important at the moment.

Incredible arrival, thanks for posting! I remember in previous videos, you would call out, 'single engine taxi, start procedure' to initiate the SETI supp. procedure but now, you called out 'engine two shutdown;' is that a procedure that changed recently? I also observed you as PF turned off the ELEC PUMP at parking rather than PM with the classic 'continue procedure' announcement... so can you explain briefly what changed there? Many thanks and keep up your fantastic work!

Thanks for watching and for sharing your very detailed observations! Yes, you are correct. The procedure changed a little bit. New callouts and at the gate the Captain switches off the electric yellow hydraulic pump and then engine 1. It is now standard the procedure if the taxi time is long enough.

Very beautiful views. Love it. A quick questi9n, sometimes I see pilots pull the heading and altitude mode selector and sometimes they push it in after changing the heading or altitude, is there any difference?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 9 ай бұрын
Yes, there is a difference. When pushing the heading knob, the airplane will follow the managed nav mode, which means the it follows the pre-programmed flightplan which we entered into the MCDU. When pulling the knob, it flies the selected heading. When pushing the altitude knob, the airplane starts a managed descent and takes into account all pre-programmed vertical altitude restrictions. When pulling the knob, the plane starts an open descent and descents with idle power immediately to the selected altitude without taking any vertical altitude restrictions into account.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 9 ай бұрын

They are both active. Except when you press the priority button on the glareshield.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your support of the channel as a member! Both sidesticks are always active unless one pilot presses the priority pushbutton which deactivated the other sidestick. If both pilots would do inputs at the same time (without pressing the takeover pushbutton), the inputs would be added up and a synthetic voice would say "dual input". The pilot monitoring usually has her or his hand also at or near the sidestick because the push to talk button for the radio is located on the sidestick. In addition, the pilot monitoring must be able to takeover the controls from the pilot flying - if needed - without delay during manual flight.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 9 ай бұрын

Bitte nur Nasensprays ohne "Chemie" verwenden, die eine Kochsalzlösung beinhalten oder homöopathisch sind. is a pilot or ATC allowed to ask the other one to move the mic a bit off the mouth? In normal internet life it's kinda rude to, but i would prefer being told i'm blowing into the mic. But maybe the noise level is just to high in a plane. Or pilots are just too polite or patient.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your feedback! The audio in the video is the original audio from the cockpit. But - you are right- there is a certain basic noise level which is originated by cooling fans, the general air flow, the engines ... Sometimes we ask each other to move the microphone closer or further away from the mouth or so. But this happens not that often because both pilot can adjust the volume of the interphone and the volume of ATC audio individually. Also, most pilots are polite and patient.

Is thia a CONDOR Airbus? CONDOR, in my opinion, is Germany,s BEST airline, ever. And DE is a truly traditional airline, dating back to 1956. It,s so sad that LTU and Airberlin no more flies through the skies. Back in the 1980 - 1990 LTU was one of the BEST German airline.

No, you are completely wrong! We were allowed to fly our own speed. Please listen to the audio before making such statements!

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I have heard it of course. I understand the ATC allowing you to keep own speed below 10000, but when cleard according to chart i would ask again to clarify. Perhaps a controller in the comments can adress the situation as its all too common.

@@Larkeshet It is very easy. Do not make it more complicated than necessary. Speed restrictions on the charts are mainly imposed for traffic separation ... At 7:21 we asked the approach controller if there are any speed restrictions for us. She clearly stated that we are number one and "free speed for you". This is very easy and there is nothing to discuss or clarify. Until we get a different clearance about the speed, we can fly whatever speed we like.

I think you need to pay parrticular attention to speed constraints cos some of them were exceeded unintentionally. IAnd the fo d better monitor entire approach more effectively and warn him when needed. Configure the aircraft early can be a solution to be considered for both crew. Anyway safe landing was made. Thanks for sharing.

You are completely wrong here! I suggest that you watch the full video: At 00:22, ATC told us that there are no speed restrictions for us. This was confirmed again at 07:30, as we asked again for speed restrictions and ATC cleared us to fly our own speed. Flying our own speed gives us always the possibility to fly most efficiently. The published speed restrictions are usually made for traffic reasons, but if there is no or just a little traffic, ATC usually allows us to fly our own speed. But, if there are speed restrictions in place, you can be sure that we will fly in accordance. There are videos here on the channel which show how we do this.
