The moment Mike hits the ball with his left hand only 3:29 was magic for me. I grew up playing baseball and had a tough time rotating (supinating) my left arm during my golf swing so I would hit these big slice/shanks out to the right. If more golfers took the time to swing the club with each arm individually and got the feel for how they move separately, I think would be a great help.

My handicap has gone from 22 to 8 in six months using your methodology. I don’t use a driver anymore as 5 wood club head speed is now consistent at 110 and 6 iron at 90. I am still improving as the concept works really well with the short game. I play twice a week and started to take a 9 iron of the tee to give a more challenging second shot. Thanks a million Mike really enjoying them (and taking the money)...........I am 62 so happy days

Excellent. I don't really miss the ball anymore. I played for a very long time "flipping" and was a zero handicapper. Now I shoot under par more often than not and my bad rounds are 74 to 77 and it is NEVER because I striked the ball bad. It's because the "game" got the best of me. Missed puts bad breaks and loss of concentration!

I recently posted a skeptical assessment of Mike’s method. However, once I had a chance to go to the range and play a couple of rounds, I am striking the ball so much better. Irons are going a little further and straighter. Hybrids and fairway woods have improved as well. Driver is not quite there yet but it’s getting close. Thanks Mike

I am a disabled golfer playing with one arm. I still have my left arm and play right handed. I fade 60% of my shots and think this is something to think about and try. So far I lost some distance hitting like this but more accurate. I guess it is not to bad because I still hit my 7 iron 150 meters if I strike it well

I mentioned this in another video, but wanted to also mention it here as it was a great example (that and I'm really eager to see what you think about the concepts :). Check out Jim Hardy's 1 vs. 2 plane swing fundamentals and how the release is different for each as it explains a lot as to where / why certain golf teaching ideas come from. In this case, the concept of pulling with the left arm towards the ball vs. throwing the club at the ball. Our current generation of golf being taught is currently favoring the 1 plane swing, which all of the ideas you teach are spot on for! But a while ago (i.e. decades) the 2 plane swing was the "it" swing of choice and what was being taught. For a 2 planer, it's absolutely critical that they pull with the left arm towards the ball due to the steepness of the swing. Hence this is why you see almost all 2 planers roll the wrists through impact as it's how you have to release and square the face in a 2 plane swing (which also references why earlier in your career coaches said to keep the back of the wrist to the ground on the release / follow through). If a 2 planer just tries to throw the club at the ball as mentioned here, and they don't do any special adjustments, it'll be the kiss of death for their swing. Conversely, as you mention, if a 1 planer tries to pull with the left hand to the ball, it'll be the kiss of death for their swing. There are some exceptions that Jim calls Hybrid swingers, with Dustin Johnson being the big one in that he's a 2 planer with a 1 plane style release. But this is why he has to move the way he does and bow his wrist something crazy, it's to account for the fact he's using 1 plane release style, and in order to get that to work with 2 plane mechanics you gotta get funky. But this is also a lesson in golf instruction in that you hear many coaches trying to teach that wrist bow that DJ does, but they don't understand that it will primarily only work in a case like DJs (i.e. 2 plane golfer doing a 1 plane release). Anyways, ever since reading Jim's book about The Release, it's made golf instruction so clear as to why some things work for some people and not others (including myself, and how I can look back in my journey and see why somethings worked sometimes and not others. It also explains a lot as to where certain ideas came from. Pulling with the left arm to the ball is a classic example left over from 2 plane instruction, as is the idea to keep the back of your wrist pointing to the ground after the release. Thanks for the channel and great instruction sir!! :)

The point to take from this video is Mike keeps referring to the left arm not hand ie its a rotation using the whole arm as i throwing a frisbee or tennis backhand not just the left hand as in table tennis.

The left arm/hand unit is the rotator of the club head and this action must occur counterclockwise at the very start of the downswing. Extremely important that more grip pressure on the handle of the club be applied by the left hand then the right hand since the left hand and forearm tuns the grip handle of the club as if it is a screwdriver handle. And by applying a softer grip pressure of the right hand on the grip handle will allow for the turning the right hand over the left post impact as it throws of the club head down the line to the ball. All of which applies to right handed golfers. It works!!!! Cheers

Winner of a video, been searching for "how to initiate downswing in golf" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my brother in law got cool results with it.

Mike I’ve watched a few of your vid’s. They are really good. Inspiring enough to make me hold off eating pizza tonite to try out some of your tecniques. Question. What are a couple of pre-swing thoughts / drills I can use this week until I have a chance to put in some practice. So far the relaxed arms distance thing hit home for me I’m 66 ,,in good shape and have played since I was 7. I played lots of sports and was ok at golf but never got below about a 10 handicap. I hit my 7 iron 130. At this point I really I just want to feel like I hit it pure. That would let me have a basis to improve.

This "rotating" your left arm is a huge source of power if you get the timing right. I was a Short hitter but when I get this right, it's driver and wedge. Try this and become "the man" in your group!

Pull down from top of backswing with left hand only, especially with left pinky and left ring fingers. Right hand does almost nothing other than stay still and not straighten out yet. As clubhead is just about to hit the ball, start pushing with right hand but left hand firm. Left hand and forearm rotate counterclockwise while right arm extends. This gives you max speed, lower penetrating ball flight, and that straight right arm after impact into follow thru. Pulling with left arm only produces higher, weaker shots and wobbly right arm in follow thru. No pro golfers have a wobbly right arm in follow thru. Watch Natalie from SmashFactor Golf on KZbin. She explains it perfectly. "How to correctly use your left and right arm to create the perfect golf swing".

I agree with what you are saying accept at the top I literally turn the grip of the handle counterclockwise with a tighter held left hand on the downswing. Works well with irons and woods.
@maeu596 ай бұрын
The left needs to steer and the right adds the power. Like a rear wheel drive car, if you don’t steer the front wheels who knows where you’ll end up. Or better yet try pushing a bike without holding on to the handle bars.

A simple thought process on the downswing....pull the bell and rotate your arm...you’ll Never swing over the top....that’s a dead cert...good enough for about 95% of people who play this game....after that’s its all about mph/kph.....and You can tell how fast to swing the arms just by the flight path of the ball.....in my opinion...

Question - so if I am rotating my left arm as you outline and the club face if too closed - resulting in pull hooks -I need to weaken my grip - correct? (Assuming I am out letting my trail shoulder come out and getting over the top)

I have been watching and learning like a new religion. I have lost so much distance after I had a stroke, admittedly I was never remotely in your class (except maybe as a student) that you seem almost freakish. Changing my swing using a combination of A swing which seems to follow your takeaway plus your downswing instruction is very easy to comprehend and utilize. Great stuff. I do have problems with left wrist action due to breaking it many years ago. Will that affect me or is it just a small glitch?

Extension is feeling rotation of chest facing target techniquly standing up around bottom into follow throw where staying in right bend all balls go left unless you open face up throw ball which give you left to right shape

I think when mike is explaining the left arm rotation it may get people to focased on the handle of the club if u are left hand dom then just swinging with one arm and feel the weight of the club head and then hitting balls feeling the club comes back to neutral.

On the downswing; the lead elbow should serves as a lead arm rotator in anyone's swing. Also on the downswing throw the head of the club as fast and as hard as you can with your trail hand. This is the key I take away from Mike's video.
@p.linker73866 жыл бұрын
Have tried very intensively on the concept of Mike, and have two issues of the handle in, heel out motion, which I hope mike or anyone who succeeded can help: 1) it's easy from top to rotate down; it's also easy to feel the momentum to turn my body; but, it's very very difficult to combine the two into a one motion so that to increase the speed. 2) when fulfill the handle in motion, the left wrist is not flat, and it's difficult to square the left hand at impact. Thanks

The feel that has worked the best for me is that of keeping my back to the target as long as possible...it helps me get the club back in front of me and keeps my body from racing out ahead of my hands and arms. You can practice this feel by actually setting up with your back more or less to the target, tee up a ball and hitting it while facing away from the target. You'll have to play around with the ball position to find what works for you best. After you hit a few solid ones, just set up normal and try to replicate that feeling of keeping your back to the target for as long as you can.
@robertcourt85936 жыл бұрын
I think I know what you mean, 1 thing that seemed to make a massive difference for me was strengthening my grip. It allowed me to go from really having to manipulate my forearms on the downswing to just being able to let it happen. I've found it allows me to swing the club faster than I ever have before while achieving good contact. Mike's thoughts on what a neutral grip is very depending on the person.

Not sure I see his math here. I love his principles and philosophies but with this particular idea it doesn't really make sense. When you get into the delivery position and as he says you don't want to be pulling the club but angular momentum will fling the club out to the ball. It's not as if the club stays late like baseball. Because you're at an angle the club will go down to the ball if you just keep turning.
@jacobr45582 жыл бұрын
You don't have to catch the face up with your hands. It catches up with your turn.
@jacobr4558 Жыл бұрын
I totally get the math now! I was misunderstanding when he was talking about the left-arm rotating I was trying to do it with my hands. Rotate your left arm with your hands you rotate your left elbow it's all pretty much all the math. It brings the arm in it flings the club out it syncs up with your body it's very simple. Genius actually
