Living in China it's often hard to ID aquatic animals I find in the shops here. I've had these shrimp in a couple of my tanks for ages without knowing the species, now I finally do. Thanks!

I've got my Malawa shrimp in a heavily planted tank with a lot of driftwood and they turn an almost slightly iridescent reddish brown color. I think it's really subtly pretty, especially on the stripped ones.

Hi Rachel, I want to write to tell you how fantastic your species spotlights are in helping me pick species for my very first tank. It’s still got a while to cycle but every day I find myself scrolling through the playlist (microdevario kubotai is my number one pick ) and they’re so useful, informative and accessible for a first time aquarist. Thanks from England!

The new camera is great! These shrimp look like they'd compliment a simple scape really well since they're not too flashy to be distracting :D

You should try Caridina Longidigita. It's a tiny filter shrimp from sulawesi, that can breed in freshwater and is not too hard to maintain in terms of water parameters. I think they would make a nice species spotlight, as they are really not well known.

I think I would put these dark shrimp on a light substrate if that is possible. I also saw a wild porous rock that is very light colored and interesting. You would really be able to watch their actions when they don't blend into the substrate and hardscape.

hey Rachel can you do a video on Paratya Australiensis (ghost shrimp/glass shimp)? i found a lot of misinformation about them online as they are actually best kept in cold water tanks rather than tropical. a lot of people have issues keeping them as a result. i'd love to see you do a video to inform other hobbyists of this.

Do these work well in breeding tanks for egg scattering fish, keeping the eggs clean, like Neocaridina do? Or would they eat fish eggs like Amano shrimp?

Hi i have a question can you put wod from the outdoors like logs braches in you tank??
@carlapappalardo19017 жыл бұрын
That can be questionable unless you know which species are safe and are sure that there have been no pesticides used in the vicinity. this has info on different woods that are ok (scroll towards the end for yard wood) injaf.org/articles-guides/general-guides/guide-to-aquarium-wood/

@IncogPollywog7 жыл бұрын
I've been thinking of setting up a Sulawesi "biotope" tank with Marosatherina ladigesi, Oryzias woworae, Nomorhamphus liemi, some species of rabbit snail, and either one of two shrimp species (Caridina cf. spongicola or Caridina dennerli). However looking into shrimp I'm worried they or at least their young would be too heavily preyed upon by the fish even with a lot of rock work and plants for them to hide in. Might just end up looking into some Parathelphusa pantherina.

-Rachel, what are the worm things in the tank!? They're creeping me out!! You can see one on top of the food pellet at --0:58--, and again in the background just to the left of the food pellet at --1:58--. Bleh!- Edit: Nevermind. I see your comment about Planaria. I'm assuming that's what the worms are. I look forward to the video on these little buggers!
