Malaysia swears in half-British billionaire as new King

Malaysia's Sultan Ibrahim from the southern state of Johor was sworn in as the country's new king on January 31, taking the oath of office in a ceremony at the national palace in Kuala Lumpur.
Under a unique system of monarchy, the heads of Malaysia's nine royal families take turns to be the King, known as the "Yang di-Pertuan Agong" every five years. Sultan Ibrahim, 65, succeeds Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who is returning to lead his home state of Pahang after completing his five-year tenure as king.

british is a nationality and a not an ethnicity. in the UK there are english, Scottish, welsh and Irish. these are the ethnic groups however all together they are nationally British. Anyone with citizenship from the British isles is called British. So half British implies he has dual nationality. which he wouldn't despite his mother being British. @@kierano8390

What does half British mean? British is not an ethnicity or race. Half white? Or half Anglo Saxon English, Scot Gaelic, half Celtic Welsh? But if someone born in Britain to fully Malaysian parents they are still Malaysian, with British citizenship, maybe British culture but there’s no British ethnicity. That’d be like me being born somewhere in vast China to white English parents and this paper calling me half Chinese Makes no sense

In the old days...the Palace ruling was...A Sultan would have to be full- blooded Malay royalty..meaning both his parents are of royal Malay blood. There is even a name for this...We say he is a GAHARA...no immediate commoner, foreign blood in this Ruler/ King...
