I loved seal, and almost, i mean ALMOST gonna buy it, however, after test drive..., the sunroof, why oohhh why, why oooh why, the shade, and peninsular weather, i mean why, why why😢

Noob question. Is it possible for the 7KW charger to be upgraded to higher rate from a future software upgrade? Or its limited by hardware? Ie, it will always be 7kw

No, charging speeds are limited by the on-board charger which, in this case, is 150kW DC and 7kW AC.

How would you compare its handling with the 330i? Coming from a BMW myself, i was quite surprised by how well it was responding. I don't think it's quite there yet, but certainly the gap is narrowing.

Aiman drives an F30 periodically (he drives his old Wira more). Between the two, it's clear that BYD doesn't have much experience in making enthusiast cars. BMWs are engineered for drivers and even in base-models the driver-focused product development is clear. BYD's cars are engineered to appease as many people as possible, resulting in compromises in alot of areas but creating a very appealing car to a large swathe of people. The Seal Performance's active frequency dampers are a bit of a hit and miss as the Premium RWD is more pliant & comfortable. But more importantly, the more 'basic' setup of the Premium RWD means it should be easier to tune. Aiman was also thinking about what F Tuned could do with a Seal...

"The lack of an electric sunblind appears to be lazy engineering - if every other carmaker can do it for the money, why has BYD taken the route of Tesla in offering this ridiculous setup? With weather that changes as frequently and quickly as it does in MY and so many other countries, am I expected to go through this palaver every time there's a break in the cloud cover? This is worse than a convertible."

Even its lower sibling, the Atto 3, has an electric sunshade. Some ramblings. Many Malaysians claim sunroof is impractical here - due to our always hot weather. When I got my Atto 3, this was what worried me. Turned out this claim is overblown. I find that there is no 'extra heat' coming from the sunroof; even during mid-day when the sun is directly overhead. Well, to be precise - no more than what you got with a car without sun-roof anyways. I do put a tint on it, but it isn't the darkest, most 'heat rejecting' one either.

@@alihms On this, Aiman is a big fan of panoramic sunroofs, and the full-glass roof of the Seal is fantastically pretty. But the lack of flexibility meant that during our testing, the glass was only exposed on the very last day we had it.

BYD Seal has all in 1 priced at 200k.. other brand needs addon makes them higher than 200k.. I just don't understand why they can't put in the same sunroof system like the dolphin.. open and close.. easy..

​@@MalaysianMotoringI have done test drive byd seal performance, I feel little continuous vibration on the steering wheel column (feels like not enough cushion on the front axle) especially when passing rough asphalt road or uneven road surface, please kindly share your experience regarding this issue

The BYD Seal is single phase so maximum charging is 7kw...from the BYD fact sheet:- CHARGING SPEEDS/REQUIREMENTS (CONTINUED) AC charging: Like all new EVs sold in Australia, the BYD Seal is fitted with a type 2 AC socket. Charging rates: Single phase: maximum of 7 kW (32A) Three phase: NA: 7kW maximum on one phase.

​@@nomia-ez1nm It appears you are correct but only in Europe with a 16 amp 3 phase supply. My BYD seal here in Thailand is single phase with maximum charging of 7kw.

@@nomia-ez1nm Not really, BYD gave me an ABB Terra wall charger which is rated at 22 kW on a 3 phase supply but the type 2 plug that goes into the car only has the L1 pin. I don't think many people have a 3 phase supply in Thailand and why would they? it is very expensive to install, have to pay more standing charge and it is only any use if you are running big induction motors such as a lathe or something like that.

DC charging power need to double (300kW- 400kW). This will mean fast charging take only 10-20mins for 10% to 80%. This will completely eleminate the Range anxity. Because anyways, people will stop every 300-400kms of drive to pee. So they will take 15mins brake and car will be charged during that time.

Why I will not buy the BYD Seal right now ... *Blunt throttle response which is noticeable in all modes. *Hated the turn indicator sound and various chimes, it was a pain. *No built-in maps and navigation, which is a big miss for a car in this segment. *The software was a bit buggy. *Most of the controls are through the main screen, which is a major distraction and a safety concern. *HUD is useless in bright light and only displays current speed. I would have preferred a proper instrument cluster; this one is small and is busy with too much information on a small screen. Though I didn’t scrape anywhere, it will be a pain on slightly larger speed breakers and on bad roads.

I started driving a seal last December. Absolutely no regrets. The review does not do justice to the car. Reviewer has made some fundamental maths mistakes too The comments above are baseless to be honest.
