As much as i love Angus and Brian - when Phil, Mal and Cliff played together, i could sometimes start crying… The sound that came out then was the heart and soul of the AC/DC that i grew to like… It was the same for ”A Shot in the Dark” except that Mal’s absence is visible… The moment i heard Phil starting to play, all the piece’s that i missed so badly at the ”Rock or Bust Tour” was suddenly there again…. The man is irreplacable

Phil Rudd is the ONLY drummer that belongs on that stool behind the drums. Yes, he did need a time out, even before Bon died, but his death certainly accelerated Phil's decline. The guy is a metronome and has that swing with his right hand that maybe only Charlie Watts and Ringo Starr (living) have. I've been drumming for 30 years, and I don't have it and I grew up on AC/DC. My first album was "Back in Black" purchased in 1980 with my allowance when I was 10 years old.

Young musicians can't appreciate the value of a straight-forward drummers like PR. However, once you've played with guys who try to play beyond their abilities while not being able to keep the time, locking in with a cat like Phil becomes a must have.

I got into AC/DC back in 90/91 after seeing the video for "Are You Ready" so after buying "The Razor's Edge" album I must admit I really did like Chris Slade's drumming, especially on the "Live At Donington" video. I still like Phil's drumming on the earlier albums, but I'm not a hater of Chris Slade either like a lot of fans. Check out the live black and white performance of Tom Jones singing "Chills and Fever" from the 1960's and you'll see a young Chris Slade (with hair) drumming for him. He's really good. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ep6kXqCZr9-BabM

Phil Rudd’s drumming is without a doubt at its best in Shot of Love and Fire Your Guns. 2 very underrated numbers.

There's a clip of ACDC doing a sound check for some (MTV?) show.. i think the song was "gone shooting". Anyway, in the first part, you just hear Phil playing (soloed), and I tell ya... I never realised how essential he is to the ACDC sound. Just him alone playing = the spirit/groove/feel of AC/DC. [edit: here it is! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5WZlaijYtJlrZI ]

Chris Slade was devastated when Malcolm told him we don't need u to come to rehearse for the new songs yet. Somebody at the studio told Chris that Phil Rudd was there playing drums. Chris called the studio and Angus was like we don't need u anymore cause Phil is back in the band. U can watch interviews of Chris Slade and he will tell u what really happened.

It was more like the boys said they wanted to give Phil a try and Chris decided that was a blow to his ego and wasn't going to be an understudy. That's literally what Chris himself said. Then he said he regretted it.

@@dupersuper6516 Chris Slade told me that they was about to start recording for the new Album. And next thing he said management call's and he said my wife answered the phone. And they told her that we no longer need Chris that Angus and Malcolm are bringing Phil back. And he goes i was like stunned had to sitdown and he said i was not happy. He said i told management to pay me for what they owed me and they did. And i tried to reach out to Angus and Malcolm and they declined to talk. Ok then why did Chris play drum's again for them after Phil was busted on charge's. And then they kicked Chris out to bring Phil back in. And then Phil can't leave his location due to his charge. And they contacted Chris and i guess his wife told them to tell Angus no.

It's kinda hard to feel sorry for Chris Slade. He's a guy who once got calls from Jimmy Page and David Gilmour on the same day , both offering him a job. And he wound up doing both gigs - and then afterward joined ACDC. Not exactly a pitiful life for a rock musician. With all respect to Phil , and I think he's great in ACDC , I couldn't see those kinds of gigs being offered to him .
