Me personally, I can understand why Maleficent was so overprotective of Aurora. A man that she loved cut her wings off in her sleep in her younger years. So yeah, I would have trust issues too. Maleficent was just misunderstood. And I love the subtle color change in her eyes from gold to green as the queen insulted her mothering skills at 1:48.

Because of the curse that she put on her her father was engraved and reeked a fear so she went to live with the fairies and Maleficent saw Aurora grow up and took a care of her as she was her own and every time she saw Aurora she saw a little baby that's a mother's love blood DNA doesn't count if you saw a child grow up took good care of them love them nothing matters in this world

The queen was obviously poking at the bear with Maleficent and trying to anger her, making her seem like the villain to everyone. But Maleficent had her own flaw of being very protective of Aurora because she still had a grudge against Aurora's kind in a way. Can't blame her after the trauma she has experienced in the past. Still, she eventually learned to allow Aurora to make her own choices and to grow up really. And also to learn that even if Aurora is moving on with her life, that doesn't change anything in their love. That seems to be a common lesson between parents and children in stories but is good lesson I believe.

"going against your own nature to raise this child" is she referring to Maleficent past or to fairies natures specifically? I'm honestly mad that Aurora didn't stand up for Maleficent when the BQ said that she will know the love of a real family. Even without being as rude as the BQ deserved, she could have still defend her. Aurora:" what's next? you'll turn him into a goat?" Maleficent:" the idea has merits..." Hard to take the name "dark' seriously when some of them have such bright colors.
