I just started nursing school and I'm one of three guys in a class of 21. I love it that a lot of women in the class are willing to accept us guys so far...lol. I'm also a firefighter so I'm on both sides of the fence with firefighting being a male dominated job and we have women.. I say no matter the gender we are doing a job TOGETHER for a single purpose!! #TEAMMURSE

Being a man working in an "all female" work place can be challenging. You have to be on your guard at all time with what you say and even your body language. A write up is just around the corner. Most men in a workplace wiill snap back (i have seen fist fights after work) But the paper work is not very common.

Thanks for the kudos. I've done everything from ICU to hospice to detox to psych for 22 years now. It has definitely broadened me as a person and I'll always be proud of being a nurse. As a guy I'm usually assigned to the more acute of the two separated hallways of our locked Psych unit, and it's simply because I'm a male. On one hand I wouldn't want our female nurses to be attacked, but on the other hand I need a break every once in awhile. It's a chaotic and potentially dangerous environment to work in.

Great stuff. I used to be an ICU RN and I really liked that specialty because you have a much larger percentage of males in that dept. It helps balance out the female drama. I did a video on my channel recently about why male nurses are paid more statistically. Check it out and let me know if you disagree.

Nice video Ashley, i am graduating from nursing school this month and me and the other two guys in our class are doing a report on men in nursing, thinking of showing your video. The video is considering the average male/female at 194 and 164 lbs respectively. Now, it is biological fact that males are able to excel in athletics I.E. Olympic Weightlifting. In the 69 kg weight class, the world record total is 357 kg for men and 245 kg for women; a nearly 250 lbs difference. This result is mirrored in other athletics like track and field or swimming. This comparison in athletics shows that the most genetically gifted males and females do not compete at the same level due to biological differences. There are measurable biological differences in the two, women have wider hips that must compensate for childbirth. Men however, have narrow hips, optimized through evolution for lifting, sprinting, and other athletics. Hormones also play a huge role, higher levels of androgens allow for increased muscle mass among other things. In your anecdote, you compare a top female athlete to an athletically below-average man. There will be exceptions to the average, but this is unrepresentative of the public. It is not a fault that women aren't as strong, women are able to work around this difference with their own strengths. It is widely accepted that women have greater communication skills than men, and the miraculous ability to create another human.

I love been a male Nurse! But the fun part is working alongside female nurses.Because, they always get me cracking up during stressful situations. working with 18 female Nurses and the only male, I always feel like that one lucky child who found fortune with 18 loving and caring family who happened to be all ladies😂 wouldn't trade that for nothing😂.By they way I don't mind lifting them patients for my female Nurses anytime any day!

Right on Ashley, I think your attitude is exactly what us fellas like to hear! And about the lifting thing: I think some guys pretend to resent it, but secretly we love that women look to us for help lifting. It refuels our inner machismo without us seeming chauvinist in any way, so it's pretty much a win-win deal! 😄👍👍

@michaelc77234 жыл бұрын
Retired RN: The first thing you have to do as a male going into nursing is devalue others' opinions of yourself. This gets you about 40 years of one aspect of maturity. Nursing requires excellent analytical skills, memorization, observation, and self-discipline. This eliminates many women and some men who start nursing programs. Nursing also requires very good communications skills, which sometimes eliminates men who should be engineers. Unfortunately, in recent years, it has become hazardous for men to be alone with female co-workers or patients. Male nurses need equal protection and they don't have it. There are many women who would rather have nobody saving their life than a man saving their life.

The reason Male Nurses do not like it when requested to do all the heavy lifting is the reality that their back and shoulders will break down over the long run. The fact that you even feel a need to present this video is the strong bias against men in nursing by the women in nursing. Sorry you seem like a good person but truth is truth.

In Australia, Male Nurses get paid on average $5000 more annually than women nurses. Thats around $100 more per week than our female work colleagues.....Both sexes pay the same college fees, yet men get paid more after graduation. As soon as there was an influx of males in the industry, the salary for a nurse goes up. I can lift a patient pretty good by myself, but so can a lot of the female nurses working with me. Seems so wrong that I get paid so much more than the girls in this day and age where equality isn't really a "thing" anymore.....
@limitless16922 жыл бұрын
If you work more hours you must be payed more! If you have more qualifications you must be payed more! If you have more experience you must be payed more! Why do you have a problem with that?!
