Anyone can be a ux designer or product designer, with very little training, very little effort. Or can they? Trying to debunk some myths, hopefully motivate some of you, and possibly make some senior uxers nervous (relax, I like you all!)
How easy it is to become a ux designer? That depends on how serious you treat what you do, because for many people it's actually quite easy.

I couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for the advice, I just started working in a new startup and I'm the only designer (we are a very small team) so I was afraid of the unknown future. But now all I care about is just doing what I love and keep pushing myself to improve even further. Again thank you for the advice.

@@MalewiczHype I have started learning UI design recently and every time I want to post a project online, I just see all those videos on KZbin and Instagram claiming that you can’t design something successful if you don’t fully understand UX and apply it. It is my fault for letting them get in my head, but the online space is filled with UX gatekeepers imo.

UX is just a fancy word ;) Of course there's a lot of UI without merrit (and sure, on Dribbble especially) but you can design something that makes sense in terms of how it works + have it good looking without really thinking a lot about any ux processes. It's common logic + the knowledge we have of existing working products :) Good luck!

I totally needed to hear that. I like your opinion about UX and pinpointing the most important role of UX designer. It so differs from a bit toxic industry where too many designers are ending burned out because they have to do and know everything.

Hi Malewicz! Thanks for guiding us young aspiring designers to become better! Update: Remember I got my first job after completed the course. My design manager was quite surprised and satisfied on how I design my screens with the red square method. He even asked me to come up with design system since I'm so consistent. So glad that I could use the skills I've learn over here!

Thank you, sincerely. Today I had to unsubscribe from a certain UX KZbin channel because I felt like the creator was kind of gatekeeping this profession (Every time I watched their video somehow I became less and less confident in my knowledge and skills rather than feeling inspired). I know it’s probably not their intention and others may not agree but that’s how I felt. I have been on my learning journey for many months now, trying to gather information online anywhere I can and get feedback on my projects from designers I know personally but sometimes I tend to get discouraged even though I already got a product designer role at a company. Anyways I love your content, I got your UI book too, keep up the great work!

Thank you! Gatekeeping is sometimes unintentional, that's because it's a bit "Systemic" as in it comes with the territory, so people who taught them also did it that way. My plan is to do it in a more open way - it's not rocket science! :)

@@MalewiczHype I was mesmerized by the presentation style of the website and the sample PDF, that's what made me buy this book. After reading it, I can confirm that the quality of the content matches the quality of the visual presentation. My first statement confirms what you also said in the book, "people buy into a product or a service with their eyes first". I fully recommend this book to anyone who is working on digital products. Being a mobile app developer myself, the lessons from this book will serve me for decades to come, both in designing my own projects (which I am currently working on), and in working more seamlessly with designers in teams. Totally worth it. Tomorrow I will read the bonus book "UI Design Styles" which I received for free. I already skimmed through it and it looks like a nice sweet "dessert" after a very satisfying meal, which was the main book.. :D

I personally think anyone who has passion, interest and likes to design Ui/Ux should pursue their education in Ui Ux field. Nowadays, students/people want to become anything that earns more , but what's point of doing something you don't like. Because if you do something for the sake of doing, soon you will remain where you were. *Follow your heart*

a case of high value. really bad UX, it was on Brazil where I live on the pandemics they made an app to receive government money. using that app was a pain, you should wait on a queue line, just like a bank. and, that was painfully hard to install the app in another device, in case your smartphone get stolen (a common thing that happens here). but anyway. people need to survive they would go for that humiliating experience to have food on the table. (including my own family at those hard times)

Thats the bitter truth. Taking a ux course. I realize it just the same things repeating. And simple ideas and findings shown in charts.. Or. Lengthy words. It does organize ans makes easier to read while thinking of design ideas..i can disagree on onr thing. That ux process is important ans useful for big projects. By the way not just ux or ui. I see these days everything is explained in complex and detailed way.. And repeated ways when they can be explained in short and precise way.
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype 2 жыл бұрын
UX Process can be important, but even big projects don't need the ENTIRE ux process. It should be suited to the problem at hand, and 99% of the cases (even big ones) can be solved by a simple design-test-repeat scenario and a UX research team not doing Product Market Fit ;-)
@tomsonow
@tomsonow 2 жыл бұрын
@@MalewiczHype Michał, don't you think that having UX folks from earliest phase of the development will increase likelihood of product-market fit? Especially if such people have experience in the particular market let's say e-commerce? In those early phases companies make very risky assumptions and good analytical mind should point them out and help to validate. I personally see UX as a role and in a small team this role can be fulfilled by CEO or Product Manager, but only if they are educated. UX specialisation exists only in highly competitive markets or premium products, growth of internet created such fierce competition. Seems like we are in a prolonged gold rush driven by innovation in technology and design in form of ux became a next aspect of competition for the "gold". Designers on service of gold diggers, that doesn't sound too nice... but what I see as valuable is that well educated designers are humanists and tend to put some emphasis on ethics, so that whole busineses become at least a bit more human and environmentally friendly, instead of just a money digging machine. Isn't this a nobler ideal for designers to pursue? I personally worked a lot with awfully designed internal tools which were underinvested because they don't bring $$ directly, but good internal tools create sense of craft in the company, sense of pride in employees, just like a beautiful office, unfortunately some gold diggers in startup growth phase do not get it. I was doing ux improvements and more and more people were using those tools, I was satisfied that it empowered people to do things they couldn't do before. Interpersonal communication can also be a good or bad experience, not that many people care about others in how they communicate, can such people become good ux designer in case they don't create good experiences for others in such simple situations? :-) I know it's idealistic, but aren't we doing that for the people? Isn't ux folk a spark of some culture in a harsh world of business and mechanics of technology?
